Great door closer - better than I expected!
I bought this Touch'N Hold Door Closer to replace a similar door closer on my storm door. I had liked that product and therefore tried to find the most similar one to it (I can't find a brand on the former closer, which came with our house, so I can't say for sure what type it was).I just installed this closer about a week ago and I'm absolutely in love. I'm going to buy another to replace the non-broken one on the other storm door in our house. Here's why:1. Great touch-button. Much, much easier to use than my former closer's button. This one doesn't depress into a little well like that one did -- it stays popped up above the closer, so it's easy to tap and seems less likely to break or twist (which is what happened to the other one).2. Very quiet pneumatics. A gentle hiss sound when it's closed and that's it.3. Installed right over the old closer's footprint. This was a tight one, as this closer is just a touch shorter even when fully extended (by about 1/2 inch), but I didn't have to drill any new holes, and the hardware matched up well. Even if you needed to drill holes, you'll only need to drill 6 holes and they shouldn't be too difficult as the size of the screws isn't insane.4. Adjustable speed for closing. This is essential in a house with a baby who is woken up by slamming doors! Works great.A few caveats:1. I never like the included wood screws for things like this, which seem to strip easily. I usually have a container of better screws that I swap out for projects like this so that I knew they won't strip.2. Measure twice, drill once -- unless you want unsightly holes in your door, make sure you know how far open you want it to swing, and where you want the hardware to attach.

Reliable and convenient
I just ordered our second unit; the first lasted about nine years until a visitor accidentally damaged it. Until it was damaged, the first one performed flawlessly; we've been very happy with it. We especially like being able to use our feet to both hold our screen door open and release. Well-made and well-designed. I'm hoping that the replacement will be at least as long-lived as the first one.

V1345 Touch'N HoldTM Door Closer in Black from National Hardware
This National Hardware V1345 Touch'N HoldTM Door Closer in Black is a good product at a good price. The touch and hold convenience is an improvement over the type of old door closer that came with my patio door, after installation of a screened porch. Time will tell if it holds up and performs at it's current operating condition as new, but now I can pick a spot I want to gage as an opening for my cat to come in and out, hit the button and the latch sets and holds just after that point of hitting the button. I takes a little practice to be precise. The look, fit and finish is good and it should last a while for my most used door on the patio. The screw to adjust the slowdown of the door swing has little adjustment before fully screwed in, so it will barely cause the door much slowdown, which may be a fault of my unit. Four stars at this time and if I feel the product is not doing what I want it to do in the future, I will revisit this review and make any necessary changes. I like it now.

Excellent Alternative to the Normal Opener!
I will admit that I was somewhat skeptical about this "touch" opener, but I couldn't be happier! It works like a charm... just press the button, open the door to the desired place, and let go... it stays put. To release, just push outward on the door and it closes... exactly as described. If your door has two closers, I recommend using it on the top rather than the bottom. I tended to push down too hard on the button when it was on the bottom, which caused the end cap to come loose a couple of times. No biggie... I just popped it back in and all was well. But after moving it to the top, all has been well.Installation couldn't be easier... it fit perfectly into the existing holding brackets. I just removed the two pins from the old one, took it out, slipped in this new one, and put the pins back in... it took less than one minute. After couple of small turns of the tension adjuster, the door closed exactly to my liking.Gone are the days of trying to get the little sliding clip thingy in just the right place and hoping it would hold!! And on top of that, my door now actually latches when it closes (the old one always took an extra tug on the door handle to get it to latch). If you're looking to replace your door closer, get one of these things. It's worth every penny!!

Closer works, "Touch & Hold" does sometimes
Touch & Hold, the "big innovation" in this product that replaces the sliding ring to hold the door open, works perhaps 1 out of 10 times. Sadly, this feature was my main reason for purchasing the product. The closer works fine otherwise.Update: I ordered a second unit. Touch & Hold has worked well in the week since I installed it. Adding a star.

Great choice
I had to replace my old door closer and this style was intriguing. It keeps the door open with the tap of a button and releases with just a tap on the door. It was very easy to install even though I had to drill new holes for it. I love not having to deal with the sliding washer type anymore.

Worked as described. Easy to install.
Sturdy construction is something of note of this item. The installation was easy and though I almost didnt buy it due to the comments stating the slamming of the doors; I found adjusting the strength of the closing very very easy. All you need is a phillips screwdriver and 5 mins (or less) of openning and closing your storm door until you find the setting you like. The hold open feature works as described. Once the button is pressed, the door will stay open at the desired location. To close all you have to do is slightly push it and the door will close at the speed you adjusted it. As for longevity; only time will tell and its necessary review update of course. Would recommend it.
