They had met as adversaries. They had fought as allies! But to their enemies...
Shoot some zombies...er. mutants! Use the Playstation Move controller to aim and waste hordes of baddies in this hilarious shooter on rails. Originally, this game was released for teh Wii, but I enjoyed it so much I had to purchase it for the PS3. I thought the Wii version was awesome, and this version is even better. The PS3 version looks better, as the visuals are sharper and more vibrant, so it's easier to see what you are shooting at. In short, this is basically the same game you would get for the Wii, except it looks better, and there is more of it, and more House of the Dead: Overkill is a good thing. The back of the packaging says "more blood, more gore, and more strippers," and it delivers on it's promise. This is one of the best shooter on rails you'll play because it's not only a good game, but it's also hilarious, and at times creepy and weird. It pays homage to the old-school b-movie zombie horror films of the past. This game also has a ton of replay value.

Where is my bleepin' hand cannon!
I wasn't sure which peripheral was going to be required for great accuracy but it looks like the sharpshooter support implemented here makes it the weapon of choice. There are two ways to reload, a lockable grenade button, and the trigger is digital so you aren't wearing out your T-Button with extra hard trigger pulls. Besides the new levels etc, this grindhouse game classic now features 3D and not just high falootin' shutter glasses 3D but also old school Red/Blue or Magenta/Green stereoscopic 3D. I tried out the TRIOVIZ goggles you can get for Batman etc. and for some reason they ghosted the edges badly but I switched back to the gel cardboard batman glasses and the game looks and plays great with 3d intensity at about 55%. The movies ghost but the visuals here look sharp with zombies popping out at different depths and your sights sitting in the forefront. Also on offer is a single player unlockable dual wield mode for maximum trigger happy fun. I wish there had been more new levels and that the game had included glasses for the non 3D t.v set, also the profanity filter should be unlocked from the start. The minigames aren't in 3D but they are just an aside to what is a profane, graphic and thrilling on rails blast of splatter loving indecency. If your gun is drifting on other games it shouldn't here as calibration is rock solid and simple. No hand cannon needed the Sharpshooter is perfect for this game. After playing this game in both types of 3D(ana/stereoscopic) I noticed that only the movies on the final added OVERKILL level don't ghost horribly with BOTH types of 3D. Besides that I found the sense of depth greater with the nicer 3D but not much better ghost wise than the old type Magenta/Green.

a nearly perfect port to the ps3
'house of the dead: overkill' has always been my favorite game for the wii, and when i read that a port was being made for ps3 with hd upscaling, i started to pine for october. concept: the same as the original, however we now have two entirely new levels! it's like having a heaping load of awesome with two extra sides of awesome! and i have to admit, the trophies are kind of fun (but given the nature of the game, this shouldn't be surprising). it also seems to me that there are far more bonus items in each level, which is a welcome addition. graphics: they have transferred well. they aren't in line with new releases for the ps3 (obviously), but they do look far better than they did for the wii release. i also noticed in slo-mofo-mode that when you do serious damage to a zombie they REALLY get graphic with the splat factor. i do not recall this being as...messy...in the previous edition. sound: top notch and, of course, we have the beyond hilarious voice work from the original (which for me, was a huge part of why i loved the game). between the cutscenes and the dialogue between detective washington and agent g, there is never a dull moment (i read somewhere that this game has the record for the most use of the 'f' word out of any video game). my one real beef (and why i removed one star) is for the functionality. i tried this first with my dualshock controller, and not only was it difficult to shoot accurately, but the button mapping was strange. to shoot, you press either X or R1. R1? it felt very akward and i wished i could have remapped it to R2, but no such luck. you can move your crosshairs with either analog stick which actually gets a little confusing, especially if you happen to move one by mistake. i died a little too often because of these poorly laid out controls. using the move is far preferable, and honestly, point and shooters are so rare now, who wouldn't want to play this way for kicks? using the move peripheral enables this game to be played in a fashion that suits it far better than the dualshock controller. this game was already great, and now it's been elevated to the next level with a plethora of wonderful additions. this is by far worth the price. with new weapons, trophies, and levels, this is ideal for 'hod: overkill' fans and newcomers alike! (i wish i could comment on the 3d capabilities, however i do not have a 3d tv. if i have a chance to play it in 3d elsewhere, i will update this review at that time.) 100% recommended! *** *** *** i found a couple of things i wanted to add to my review. one: the load times seem a bit excessive. two: the move peripheral isn't as sharp as the wiimote was for the original. several times i have had the crosshairs directly over a zombie or a bonus item, even shooting that spot multiple times, and it still does not register. there is significant 'drift' as well as a difficulty getting each shot to register as you pull the trigger. i suppose this could just be my move set, but i thought it worth noting. on the wii version i had an average of 80%+ accuracy, on the ps3, my accuracy has been around 52%. either i have started to suck far more, or there is a learning curve here with the move accesory. i just thought these were worth mentioning. i still love the game though!

THOTDOEC
I like this game! I bought a PS Move and a gun attachment just for the soul purpose of playing this game. Alot of F bombs in this game from Isaac so if you're a parent and are thinking about buying this game for your child, you might want to push mute during the cut scenes. lol. Also there's alot of violence and gore. I've never played the Wii version but this one is obviously the version to get because of it's improved graphics and sound and a few bonus features so i might not even bother getting it for the Wii. I'm about half way through the game but the stages arent that long and the bosses repeat their tactics making it easy to defeat them. It's a fast paced game with a variety of different looking zombies. I'm playing it alone but i'm sure it's a blast with 2 players. This is the kind of game that you could spend a weekend playing and enjoying with a few buddies. It's a straight arcade style game of course and you don't move the character which can be a pain at times because sometimes i see special items i could shoot but the character moves around so much that i miss out on alot of them. Replay value is little to none. I mean you can play through to save up enough money to get all the guns in the game and unlock some 3d models but after that, this is a game that will be played every now and then. The comedy in the game is somewhat funny. It's like a cheesy C list parody of any or every zombie movie that's ever been made. The environments and levels look pretty cool. It's easy to calibrate the PS Move controller and yes, you can play this game with the regualar PS3 controller but it's not highly recommended because it's just not as fun when playing the game that way. Anyways, i bought this game for like 15 bucks and it's definitely worth the price in my opinion.

For All Of You Ol School Arcade Light Gun Shooter Fans
Love this game! Cheesy 70's era "cinematography" and dialogue. Zombies (oops...I mean mutants). Multiple gun types with which to shoot the mutants. What more do you need when you've got a little time to kill? Seeing a mutant's head disappear after a well placed shot from the hand cannon and hearing the "Splat!" that goes along with it is just one of those gaming experiences you never get tired of. I won't go into much game detail because it is what it is: An on rails shooter that moves from set piece to set piece tasking you to plug away at pretty much anything that moves. It's got a plotline, funny characters that banter throughout the game (and in cutscenes) and a grading system that encourages you to replay missions for better scores and extra money to purchase and level up different guns. If you're one who got a kick out of going to the arcade back in the day and playing this game's light gun predecessors, you won't be disappointed. Which brings me to my recent purchase of the Playstation Move along with the sharpshooter accessory. I had been looking for a game to justify the purchase when I found this. Well, after several hours of playing, I'm extremely satisfied with each product. HOTD Overkill was made to be played with the Move and the sharpshooter and they all go together like peanut butter and chocolate. So, if you buy any one of these, I strongly suggest getting the others, also. Make sure you calibrate the controls properly, sit back (you can stand but you're gonna get tired after awhile) and enjoy!

Finally, a Great Rail Shooter for PS3
Great game to simply put it. For only 40$ its a great party game for when you have friends over. Highly recommend the PS move controller though or even the PS mouse (frag) to a lesser extent. The regular PS anaglog sticks are difficult to aim with. Graphics are upgraded HD/3D as per this being an upgraded Wii port from last year. Entire gameplay is an on rails light gun shooter, with varying options to increase difficulty or flat out add more zombies per round with a final Boss at the end of the level. Nine Levels in total, this is up 2 from the Wii version, one of which added was a Stripper Bar scene which is lots of fun. decent voice acting for each character. Positives: - Low purchase price - Great party game for friends drinking late night - Finnaly a reason to own PS move - Zombies - Great 70's style Music - Tons of hidden Unlockables Negatives - You need a PS move controller, the reg analog controllers dont cut it. - No online multiplayer

If you like original House of the Dead or Japanse style gun games, skip it.
Like all those American remakes of Japanese games, e.g. DMC of Devil May Cry series, Ridge Racer Unbounded of Ridge Racer series, if you like the Japanese originals, you will be disappointed. This OVERKILL has nothing to do with the previous games, not only story but gameplay and style. Original series are arcade games based, simple, and fast action. If the original ones are scary, this OVERKILL is gross so much emphasizes on blood, twisted stories, swearing and etc.

3D disappointment
Ok this game is a load of fun do not get me wrong here... great fun with the PS3 move controllers combined with the PS Sharp Shooter gun assembly. Awesome Cheesy Grindhouse B-Movie appeal for sure!!! Where I dinged it for stars was the 3D... it is not digital 3D, but analglyphic meaning that it requires old school red/blue paper glasses for it's native 3D content. Very disappointed as I was looking forward to a truly nnative 3D gaming experience on mty new Samsung 3D TV... When using the TV's 2D-3D upscaling 3D worked ok, but only as good as one could expect when using integrated conversion and didn't have the punch I was hoping to see I.E. zombies and body parts flying out of the screen... Most 3D images without using native mode are limited to background images like furniture etc. That said however.. if you like cheesy one liners and B horror movie effects... this game takes it over the top and is a load of fun to play, while keeping the player happily amused at the character antics etc while blasting away at wave after wave of zombies... Def a descent purchase and well built game except for the 3D disappointment...

PERFECT
I thought this game was fun. If your into any of the other house of the dead games im sure you'll find that this is even better. If your a hardcore gamer, you'll be able to get through this in 2 days max. It took me just over a week. You can't get platinum in this game without the playstation move bundle. I personally don't care. For the price it's worth it. I never played with a friend yet but i'm also sure it'll be fun especially on a harder difficulty.

Blast the zombies
Funny and thrilling, it's made like a Tarantino's movie with a lot of jokes. The only critic I have is the game is to short. With the capacity of the PS3, it should easely have been very more longer...
