Looking to buy the kit mainly for the tc1, will it work withe a wire 18 or 20 gauge, which tool is the best to crimp the connectors?

Yes it will work to crimp 18 or 20 guage wires. I like the Paron JX-1601 crimper for the smaller guage wires. Find a bigger set with longer handles for the larger guage wires

What is a recommended crimper for these splices?

I use a klein 1005 and hasn't let me down. It's the first tool I grab if I'm going to start doing some electrical work.
