Because it was designed to be underwater as well as on the land it is built like a tank, as it has to be able to function at the pressure of 200 feet underwater. Because of this the buttons are a little harder to push otherwise the pressure at deep water will activate a normal button and render it useless. Because it works on pulse induction, it has great depth sensitivity and allows you to accurately pinpoint your target before you dig even when 4" down saving a lot of time. Integrated battery lasts a very long time and recharges quickly. As far as negatives go it does not pick up foil well unless you are close, everything else is very good. It will also get hung up every once in a while when removing it from the holster on your belt. Comes with a tip protector which I never use but its included. As a bonus, you can purchase the coil for this pin pointer which will allow you to use it like a detector in the water when diving or snorkeling. Would purchase again.
