Bike Rim Strip Rim Tape 700C Nylon(A Pair)

To counter all the bad reviews out there citing lack of adhesive or difficult installation: 1. There are a ton of videos out there for proper installation of rim strips. It's just like mounting a tire. The only thing you need to worry about is keeping the valve stem hole aligned. 2. It's not tape; it's a rim strip. Rim strip is not backed with adhesive because it stays in place with friction and pressure from the elasticity of the strip. It will never move as long as you do not over-stretch the strip during installation. Great elasticity and rebound. Super easy to install. No pre-stretching required. Just use an old valve stem with some rubber still attached to keep the strip aligned with the valve stem hole. Use tire levers to slip on the rest of the way.

So far so good, but I mistakenly chose it to be 18mm wide and 16mm would have been better. That's just my mistake. My rim's internal width is 22mm, but the narrow trough section is 16mm wide, so 16mm would have prevented my tire beads from grabbing the strip. This is dependent on your rim. It's best to give the tire bead section sufficient space while completely covering the sharp areas of your inner rim. No mysterious flat tires in a week at 60 PSI, so these are a success.

I was shocked and disappointed when the front tire on my standing-still bike blew. The culprit was failed rim tape on my DT Swiss wheels (a little over 11,000 miles on them). The tape had worn through at a spoke nipple hole, allowing the sharp edge to chafe the tube. The wheels are tubeless-ready (whole 'nother story, not going there in this short write-up) and the original tape was pretty well fixed in the rim, so I left it and put this nylon tape over it. A wee bit tricky to keep the valve hole aligned when you stretch it around the rim, but once in place I went around it using a plastic tire lever to keep it centered. Fits well and feels very strong.

With double-walled rims, the "bed" of the rim has holes where the spoke nipples are inserted. This rim tape is not dense enough for this purpose, so it develops dimples in the tape. These dimples cause friction under braking, and will eventually lead to tears in the underside of inner tubes. To be clear, the spoke holes were sanded smooth so they did not puncture the rim tape. I ran this rim tape with lower pressure winter tires (60 psi max) and higher pressure road tires (105psi max). I had only one flat due to inner tube failure on the underside with the lower pressure tires, and four flats with higher pressure. I thought it was the cheaper inner tubes I was using, which did contribute, but I got a friction flat with a (well respected) name brand tube as well. I would recommend this tape not be used with double-walled rims at all. If your inner rim diameter is 2mm or more wider than the rim tape, it will slide around in the rim, which causes more friction against the inner tube. The tape needs to be wide enough to cover the entire bottom of the rim inner, so that the inner tube cannot get pinched between the rim tape and the underside of the tire bead. Buy a "high pressure" rim tape for double-walled rims, even if you don't run high pressure tires, from a name brand bike or tire manufacturer. I gave a favorable 4 stars overall because this tape is not marketed specifically as a high-pressure rim tape, so that is on me. I don't expect the seller to be an expert in every product they sell and cover every contingency. It is easy to install because it requires no adhesive, but there are rim tapes out there with more "rubbery" feel which don't slide around as much.

Rim tape was a perfect fit. Will buy again when I need more

Never really considered the importance of replacing the rim tape. Dealt with several flat tires soon after replacing the tire. Convinced myself it was the new tire, but after a little reading ordered the rim tape first instead. Easy replacement/install and NO more flat tires.

I bought these because I was getting blow-outs with the old rim tape. The blow-outs were on the insides of the tubes where they pressed against the rim tape. The new tape has stopped the blow-outs. I didn't give a rating for adhesion because there is no adhesive. The tape stretches slightly to make a tight fit on the rim.

Nice snug fit on my Mavic rims. Edges are clean and they seem well-made.
