Filled with stunning photos, step-by-step instructions, and creative ideas for customization, The LEGO Castle Book shows you how to build mini castles complete with moats, drawbridges, gatehouses, and more! Build a castle using basic bricks or make one of the six master builds. Create your own medieval village with windmills, taverns, and chapels. Travel through the history of castle architecture and learn how to build walls, towers, gates, and keeps. Whether your goal is to add realistic details like crenellations, turrets, and parapets to your designs or to create a believable medieval setting, you'll find endless inspiration in The LEGO Castle Book . Includes complete parts list and building instructions for 6 castle master builds: • Sleeping Dragon • Land's End • River Gate • Winter Palace • Eight Arches • Mountain Kingdom Review: Great ideas book - Great idea book! If you like micro builds I recommend getting this book. Review: Really cool book!!! - This is a really cool book that serves as an "incubator" for your creativity, LEGO knowledge and inspiration for "microscope" LEGO castle builds. The author does state that you should be creative and basically improvise when/where you don't have the bricks necessary for the six builds. Unless your collection is rather vast, I'm willing to bet most people won't have all the pieces necessary to complete models as indicated. Having said that... I was really impressed with the quality, knowledge imparted and how the author "shines a light" on creating castles with LEGO in a microscale format! Another review gripes that there seemed to be a step or two missing... cry me a river!! Even if that may be the case, most people who are seriously going to create these models are going to be insightful enough that they can easily overcome these (very rare) instances and successfully re-create what is detailed within the pages. It's not as though this book comes with all the pieces necessary for these models to be completed, many readers/builders will find it necessary to source the pieces via BrickLink to build these mini-castles. I was inspired and was fairly successful in re-creating the "Lands End Model". I found it necessary to use the darker Azure blue as opposed to the light/moderate blue suggested in the book. While the authors use of the alternative blue would have been desirable, I made "due" with what I had and was happy with the result. After that, I decided to give it a go on my own and created a rather "fantastical/mystical" castle of my very own. Again, my parts limitations dictated the use of dark bluish-gray for the cliffs/land-base and light bluish-gray/gold for the actual castle. While I was pleased with the result, I lack many of the bricks/colors/specialty pieces to really construct it as I would like... but again, was inspired by the author/book!!!! So, in conclusion... if you are looking for inspiration and instructions on how to build in microscale to build castles, I highly recommend this book. It really is gorgeous, informative and a nice followup to Mr. Friesen's LEGO MICRO CITIES. I've got a lengthy shopping list now to pursue on BrickLink so I can build more Micro-castles. The book is definitely geared more towards LEGO builders knowledgable about LEGO parts and will most probably require acquisition of pieces that are not currently in most peoples collections.

If you need ideas for Lego builds and want a regular book instead of an ebook, I recommend this one.
This book has some great ideas for castle building and the surrounding areas (e.g. lake, waterfall). I gave in four starts because I didn't catch while ordering that it's geared toward building a mini-castle. However, the steps can be applied to regular-sized builds. Color pages of this hardback are crisp and concise. Step-by-step instructions are outlined for several builds.

Cool book, but parts lists inaccurate
I bought this book for my wife, an AFOL (Adult Fan of LEGO), as a Christmas gift. The book includes guidance on how to make the various components of different styles of castles and encourages the reader to use these techniques to construct their own LEGO castle. The final chapter contains parts lists and instructions for six "master builds" – a welcome addition following Friesen's beautiful "LEGO Micro Cities" book, which does not include full instructions for any of its highlighted city builds. I used the parts list to purchase the necessary pieces for the first master build, Sleeping Dragon castle, to the surprise and delight of this book's recipient. Unfortunately, the day after Christmas I got to watch her utter frustration time and time again as she discovered a multitude of errors in the parts lists – which it turns out was wrong by 21 parts!! From the other reviews, it certainly sounds like this is a problem throughout the book. For a book as lovingly crafted as this, No Starch Press should be aghast to have it publish with so many errors, and should immediately post corrections on their website. I hope that any future printings of this book correct these errors, and that No Starch does better to ensure accuracy in any future LEGO books it publishes.

Very informative and beautiful book
The pictures are stunning and there is a lot of interesting information about the history of castles and the kind of workers who built them. Everything is nicely illustrated all in LEGO.
