I don't understand the great reviews for this product
I don't understand the great reviews for this product. Yes it's built well (as I hold it new), I can't say how it'll hold up under use, because these are unusable as they are sold new. Why? Because of why you'd buy a scabbard. A regular case is meant to store and transport your weapon, a scabbard is meant to do the same, only to keep it accessible while doing so.While this may be a great case, it does not store your weapon in an accessible manner, nor does it hold it stable. If this were designed as a backpack with 2 straps, then it would work for transport, still be inaccessible, but at least be stable. Instead, it's designed as a sling. Obviously, the heavy end of a rifle is the butt end, so when you try and put that high on your back, you're throwing off your center of gravity and becoming top heavy. As a result, the top end of the rifle constantly wants to pull down, and without equal opposing straps, it does.It swings around in the breeze with a very good amount of inertia and will hit, knock down, and snag on whatever you're walking around. Not the greatest design for walking through the woods. heck, I couldn't walk around my driveway without it being a problem, so for tactical or hunting use, forget it.The sad part is, the manufacturer put provisions for backpack straps, but they only include a sling strap, so if you wish to get creative and buy or make your own straps, then you could in theory do it, however, you will not be able to reach your rifle and pull it out without actually removing the scabbard, so it seems kind of pointless. Finally, I own the 3 most popular tactical rifles in the world, and none of them fit in this scabbard if they have any optics mounted. So if you have a red dot sight or scope mounted, it's going to be a very tight fit.I did write to Rothco and they suggested that I simply return it to the seller. When I made this purchase, it was after weeks of research, so even though the seller would be more then willing to allow me to return it, that doesn't nearly resolve my situation. I have a lot of time invested in the venture, plus shipping charges, and I have to start all over again with my search, all because the manufacturer failed to properly test and market their product.Rothco had no interest in addressing how it could be made better.

Hi Point carbine owners should read this
I bought this to use with a Hi Point 9mm carbine. I couldn't find a lot of information about which scabbard would work well for the Hi Point. Well, it fits great in this thing. The only problem is that the carbine is so unbalanced and heavy on the stock end that it doesn't shoulder very well in a scabbard. It's not the fault of this product; it's the gun. I haven't tried this with my AR-15 yet, but I suspect it will work well. Time will tell, but it seems well-constructed and durable.

AR pistol owners read this.
Top quality bag. Very well made. However I took a chance on this for an AR pistol, 26" overall. Mag well won't go past the zipper section.

Looks and fits well with AR15
This is the best thing I could have gotten for my rifle. It fits snug even with a scope. I can easily sling it around my back and travel where I need.
