Created by star of classic bellydance, Sarah Skinner, The Celebration Bellydance Workout is a blend of dance instruction and fitness. It offers a step-by-step instructional section , a 30-minute non-stop dance workout/practice , and a yoga-based muscle conditioning and strengthening workout . The Celebration Workout features a number of classic belly dance genres and movement styles with the overall theme of celebration, joy, and ritual. The Circles segment is dedicated to fluid, organic movement following trajectories of circles and infinity loops - a celebration of femininity, curves, and grace. Beautiful, easy-to-follow combinations fall together into a dance sequence designed to release tension and gently activate every muscle group. The Shimmy and Hipwork section followed by floorwork allow you to practice technique and moves for the Zeffa and Floorwork dance sequences. Zeffa , a traditional wedding dance, is a medium-paced dance of celebration and ritual. It is often performed with a candelabrum (shemadan) balanced on the dancer s head, and can also be performed while balancing a tray of lit candles . To enable more experienced dancers to practice tray balancing, two of the five dancers in our program perform this segment while balancing a tray of candles. The Floorwork segment invokes the image of a temple dance ritual - seductive and mysterious. Floorwork is a powerful tool to tone the upper body and abdominal areas , and to infuse your movement with sinuous grace. Since many elements of belly dance floorwork are used to enhance balancing acts such as candle tray or sword dances , you can practice this segment with your own tray or a sword. Two dancers demonstrate the moves balancing candle trays. The Saidi segment is a high-energy, fast-paced, joyful dance performed to saidi music from Upper Egypt. Saidi steps are uplifting, rhythmic, girly, and flirty. Traditionally, women dance saidi with a cane , so two of Sarah s dancers perform this segment as a cane dance. With or without a cane, this segment enables learning and practice of saidi steps and styling. Sarah Skinner's Celebration Bellydance Workout also offers a section of stretches and yoga-based strengthening and flexibility exercises. To give you still more inspiration, and demonstrate how every section of the workout translates into a classic belly dance show, a performance segment demonstrates the dance moves in the workout in full costume and in the context of a stage show. Review: Sarah Does It Again - ITEMS NEEDED: Heavily Padded Mat Knee Pads (If you have bad knees) Balancing tray (optional) PRECAUTION: If you have lower back or knee problems, please be cautious with the Muscle Conditioning Section Sarah does a great job of explaining movement and terminology. If you are a beginner, some sections may be challenging if you are not yet familiar with myas, upward figure 8's, and yoga practices. Sarah does a great job with the conditioning portion. I must say, she stepped it up. I really love that she is taking more time to stretch the neck and back. She also incorporates new moves that aren't repeats from other workouts. The program was not quite as upbeat as I anticipated (due to the title), but overall, it's a workout that I will keep in my library. I must say that although she used props(canes, and trays)she does not explain in detail the correct way to utilize them which I thought was quite odd. MUSCLE CONDITIONING SECTION: I really liked this yoga inspired warm up. By the end, you will absolutely feel a total body workout that delivers.I do caution those with bad knees or back issues to modify the seated exercises to preserve your knees and avoid lower back injury. Here are the specific movements: Neck stretches, wrist circles, standing roll ups, shoulder rolls/lifts,fierce poses, squats with prayer hands, goddess pose, back arches while on knees, twist shimmies while on knees, figure 8's on knees, hip circles, abdominals, lying glute shimmies,LEG RAISES,childs pose, plank with leg up,lower back strengthening, downward dog, split training, and flying pigeon. COOL DOWN forward fold, knees to chest with circles for back stretch, happy baby, lying stretch Sarah includes 3 artist in the 3 performances. One with candles, the other with fans, and lastly canes. I can't say that I loved the music and some of the dancers musicality is a bit immature. The costumes were beautiful in the fan piece, but their cohesiveness and connection to the music was lacking. However, I will keep because the conditioning has a nice balance of yoga influence and great stretches. Sarah is very warm and encouraging. She allows her guests dancers to take center stage periodically which I think is great. Enjoy Guys, It's a keeper :) Thanks again!! Review: indeed moodlifting - one of the best exercise titles from WDNY - I recently ordered this DVD to add to my "dance-exercise" collection. What differentiates The Celebration Bellydance Workout from other titles from the same publisher? A lot. First, in many cases, traditional music is used. Secondly, it has a focus on folkloric dances! There are several sections to this dance, including slow circles and hand articulations, circles, floorwork, Zeffa and Saidi - the last two being the folkloric dances. Of course you don't need a cane or a balancing prop to do the workout, but if you have one, you can give yourself an extra challenge. If you're up for learning some new Saidi movements, the Zeffa rhythm, or floorwork, then this DVD offers all that in small tidbits. You would This DVD actually contains TWO workouts. First you have the 30 minute dance workout, which I was amazed to see is actually done as a troupe choreography in the Performance section of the DVD. It looked unexpectedly great, since usually exercise choreography doesn't lend itself well to stage. Secondly, you have a 20 minute strengthen and stretch workout using some of the floorwork moves, light yoga, and some abdominal strengthening. Is this DVD for beginners? Yes, you can follow along as a beginner with the simple choreography and all the movements are explained in detail by Sarah in a tutorial section. You may also enjoy Sarah Skinner's Shimmy Workout DVD and Tanna Valentine's Silk. Is this DVD for advanced dancers? Sure, for exercise and strengthening, you will enjoy this DVD. If you want to work on your floorwork and balancing, add a sword, tray or shamadan to the workout. If you want to work on your cane, challenge yourself to use your cane while following the Saidi section. At the end of this workout, I do feel happy. I feel as if I've worked out, gotten stronger (especially abdominals and quadriceps), and I drilled some bellydance movements at the same time. I would recommend this DVD to anyone who enjoys dancing to work out. It's not a blood-pumping sweatfest like Jillian Michaels, of course. No bellydance DVD ever could be (although the Shimmy Workout comes close). What it is is a chance to burn some calories while learning/practicing dance movements. If it's been a while since you've been inspired to dance, try this video - it may be the spark to get you dancing again.

I wanted to like this
I chose this DVD because I liked the idea of getting into floor work, as Neon as yet does not get into the floor stuff, I really wanted to diversify and Sarah seemed to be the one to go with to do this. First off she and her troop look great, I found the workout it'self, for the most part, to be fairly easy. The "how to" section I tried to go through and ended up just skipping. I did not like that I could not go to a certain section or move that I didn't know. I had to run through the whole tutorial and that was both time consuming and annoying. I also didn't like that she didn't really give any tips in the yoga style workout. I hurt my neck a bit the first time going through it. I've since done different Yoga instruction and figured out what exactly I did wrong and can do the Yoga part just fine now. I only gave this three stars because I didn't find Sarah to be as good a teacher as Neon, I need the extra tips and reminders as well as "remember to breathe" or "hold your chest up." not because i'm a beginner but because I forget and things start to look odd. I didn't like that Sarah gave almost no tips in the yoga section. She just expected you to know what all the moves were. Which lead to neck pain for me. I would recommend if you have bad knees to get some knee pads or braces for them.

Oh yes, I like this one.
I like the way warmups are spaced throughout, so that this can be used as one major workout/practice session, or several mini-sessions through the day. Very good instruction. No complaints.

Not for belly dance beginners
This workout is somewhat fun, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who doesn't already know the basics of belly dance. Sara Skinner explains the techniques for some of the dance moves, but there are moves in the actual choeragraphy that she doesn't explain, which is why this isn't a good workout for beginners to belly dance. If you already know the basics this workout is fun.

Simply beautiful....
A well conditioned body is relative to a skilled dancer and essential to any beginner who wishes to improve style and technique in dance. Work outs that incorporate, yoga, belly dance, belly dance floor work immediately intrigue me, so I was eager to begin this program. This program is rich in elements that will surely enhance the dance experience as well as tone the body, which for many, is a particular goal. The Celebration Workout Program is divided into the following sections: Celebration workout (with and without voice cues): A lovely upper and lower body flow with feathery hand flourishes, hip shimmies in several variations, a very relaxing cool down. This section works the arms, back and the hips beginning in a gentle flow but get ready for challenges in the shimmy section and then on to the mayas with level changes. Lovely side planks layered with undulations to these are a sensational full body workout. Muscle conditioning work out packs a punch in abdominal crunches that work upper, middle and lower sections. While on the floor, leg raises and glut shimmies continue the hip conditioning. This section finalizes with a series of yoga poses. Step by step Tutorial: Basically this is the movement catalogue for section one and incorporates: Basic hip work and footwork for Zeffa, and Saidi movements- three step turns with variations, traveling undulations, abdominal waves, chest and hip circles layering gypsy turns, figure of 8's with level changes, shimmies, ascending and descending technique for floor work. This is an impressive section in which Sarah and her trio beautifully demonstrate the poise and stamina required for elegant floor work. Sarah Skinner delightfully, and skillfully instructs her program from tutorial to performance.Beginners interested in this program would benefit by learning basic structure of the dance and strengthening quads and abdominals to prevent undue stress to knees and lower back before executing any movement that is challenging or new. Much belly dance today omits floor work and it was inspirational to see some of the elements of traditional belly dance revived. Several performances by Sarah and her trio feature cane dancing and fan veils. To finalize the program, a mini music video features Sarah as Neon speaks on film. Well done!
