The Big Picture

For anyone with Surround Sound system, DTS CDs are always great no matter the music. 6 channels rock! Took a shot at this one, and found it has music from my faved movies such as Speed, and Twister. (Heavenly Choir 'aahhhhhhh') Better than the Titanic Soundtrack DTS edition, mainly due to the 2channel mastering sounding like Pro Logic. I love James Horner including Titanic in stereo, but the dts version of titanic showed very little mastering effort. No offense, James Cameron and James Horner.

I'm finally getting around to reviewing some items I've had for years. Amazon tells me I've owned this one for over a decade.I still love to listen to this one when I get a chance. There are some great tracks from various movies, some of which I've never seen but still love the music. If you have seen the movies, the music will take you back like you're in them.Definitely a great recording, good musicians, and well worth the money.

The usual, excelent sound by Telarc. Inspiring pieces.

Telarc SACD, it just does not get much better. This company did not make a bad SACD, Telarc was the very best of the best along with Reference Recordings and FIM a a few others, that set the standard for audiophile sound, as well as stellar performances!

This CD does not have a DTS 5.1 audio track, it's just PCM stereo sound (standard CD quality). Beware if you're buying this CD thinking this is mastered in DTS, because it's not!

Unlike other SACD, this SACD doesn't contain normal stereo DSD file but only multi-channel surround DSD file.However, producer fogot there are several SACD players which can play stereo DSD file only such as marantz SA-15S2. More unfortunately, SA-15S2 isn't compatible to this SACD on its SACD-CD mode, and so, I have to set player to play CD as default.I play it on Pioneer BD player for SACD multi-channel surround DSD file. Sound is interesting, energy, loud but no details. Bass from subwoofer is too artifical. That over bass doesn't occur in Stereo CD file. If you love Bang Bang, Wu..., Lung..., Big Loud sound effect, you can pay for it. Very disappointed.

Perhaps it is me, but this recording had me fiddling far too much with my audio system's volume control. I could never seem to relax or simply enjoy the SACD because of the extremes in the dynamic range! Telarc has always been known for their superior sound production in their recordings and this certainly tests the abilities of a sound system! I guess if I were trying to sell my system, this might be the demo cd.I didn't buy it for that purpose however, and I am disappointed. I wanted to enjoy this cd...I really did. Unfortunately, it will collect dust on my cd shelf. This experience has not soured me on Telarc or Eric Kunzel And The Cincinatti Pops - in fact - I also own the Ultimate Movie 4 cd collection. Fabulous music - just what I wanted (shamless plug here).I got a great deal on Big Picture (The cd being reviewed) so I have no complaint there. Still, if you are just interested in listening to great music from the movies rather than testing your audio system's limits - buy a different collection (hint, hint, The Ultimate Movie Collection is wonderful).Three stars is all The Big Picture will get from me.

As a soundtrack fan this is right in my wheelhouse. A diverse selection of theme songs from a wide variety of movies in fine Telarc sound makes this a fun listen. I like tuning into this with lights out and feet up
