An excellent guide
We took the book on our trip to New England where we found it to be invaluable helping us identify the birds we saw. Many of which we were unfamiliar with.

A superbly designed, beautifully illustrated and extremely useful guide to the birds of eastern North America.

Excellent pocket-sized field guide, illustrations rather small
Excellent compact field guide to birds east of the Mississippi River with concise text, range maps and many plumages/sub-species included. Easily fits into most pockets which is a big plus but that is at the expense of the size of the illustrations. The Groove-billed Ani illustration highlights this point as you would struggle to see any grooves in the illustration. The National Geographic book is a better book for the whole country with larger illustrations and tex and range maps opposite in traditional field guide style BUT you would need a much bigger pocket to carry it in!

Undoubtedly the best bird book for North America’s eastern side. But has to be a contender for the best bird book in the world! (I own about 15 different field guides covering three continents).
