The chickens learn quickly
The Havahart Critter Ridder uses a motion sensor to detect animals and instantly fires a burst of water to scare them off. It’s surprisingly effective at keeping my neighbor's chickens out of my gardens and flower beds. We call it "the chicken chaser". The sudden spray conditions chickens quickly—they learn fast that your yard isn’t worth the trouble. Setup is simple: stake it in the ground, hook up a hose, pop in batteries, and you’re good to go. The sensor can detect movement from a distance and trigger a short blast of water, using only a small amount per spray, so it’s efficient and eco-friendly. I thought I was missing one of the direction guides, but found out they're kind of thin, so they were stacked on each other. Now I can dial in where the spray goes. The best part? It doesn’t just get animals. If you forget it’s on and walk by… yeah, you’re getting soaked too. Consider yourself warned.

easy to install, pet safe, goes off by wind as well.
Easy to install, works very well. Seems to go off a lot from wind easily though.

Finally, a solution for plant eating deer!
Finally, a solution that really works to stop the deer from eating my annuals! I have made numerous attempts to keep the deer from eating my landscape plants and flowers. This year, I only planted “deer resistant” annuals, yet the deer still ate them. The smelly sprays are expensive consumables that wash off with my automatic sprinkler that waters every other day. The deer became accustomed to the contraptions with ultrasonic sirens and red flashing lights. I have even covered many of my flowering plants with chicken wire, but the deer just rip that out. The Critter Ridder motion-sensing sprinkler is the answer. The sprinkler detects motion and shoots a 5 second burst of water in an adjustable arc. The Critter Ridder motion-detecting sprinklers can be daisy-chained together with multiple hoses so you can protect your entire perimeter. I have mine set up on a hose timer to only go off between 1:00 and 5:00 in the morning so my precious Amazon delivery person doesn’t get drenched. I set up my Birdfy camera to capture the panic the Critter Ridder causes to the deer that used to visit my property every night. Once the sprinkler shoots for 5 seconds, it resets and will shoot again and again. Setting it up was very quick and easy and it is in no way harmful to the deer. Please watch my attached video of one of my Critter Ridder motion-detecting sprinklers in action.

Not reliable enough for the money.
I would've given these things a zero if it were an option. The current technology and quality does not make sensor sprinklers worth it - these things are crap. The sensors are either too sensitive or not sensitive enough. They go off when you don't want them to and won't work when you do want them to. If you have hard water the minerals encrust on the plastic sensor window and dull the sensor's ability to "see". Sunlight also degrades the sensor prematurely. Batteries don't last very long and are a pain to maintain - one more thing to add to your "Honey Do" list. Wind blowing plants or branches will set them off yet won't reliably activate when a cat walks past them. The connections leak if you don't use teflon tape on all the threads. Also, the spike that you push into the ground fails to hold position as the ground it's in gets soaked - then the whole thing falls over or doesn't spray where you need it to. I had to build clamps with 2X4's and bolts to keep them from falling over. No matter what brand you buy they're all VERY unreliable. I bought one of these AND a Rain Bird....Truly a waste of money. Worthless. Now they're sitting in a cardboard box to go to the Thrift Store. Instead of wasting your money on these things I recommend putting rotating sprinklers in the area you want to protect and have them on a timer set to go off periodically. No sensors or batteries to fail, maintenance is next to nothing, and you can easily move them to where animals hang out. Caveat Emptor!

Got it to work, which shouldn't have been the goal
The first one I received had a faulty sensor that wouldn't go off even if I covered the sensor with my hand repeatedly. This gave me an hour of headache as I was trying to determine if it was user error, battery, or environmental conditions but it turned out to just be a bad unit so that speaks on the quality control. The replacement had the opposite effect. I was getting faulty triggers even on the lower sensitivity setting. I'm using this device to keep neighborhood cats and my own dogs out of a golf practice zone in the backyard and to stop them from doing their business on my expensive launch pad and tent. What happens if this device faces towards the sun, is if it goes off, it wets the ground that might pool some water, then the warmth of sun appears to reflect off the ground or tent and it causes another false trigger. After a few days of these false triggers going off all the time wasting my water, the batteries died and needed to be replaced. I had to re-angle the device to face away from the suns path and this eliminated the false triggers however it wasn't ideal for the layout of my backyard and I was restricting my own territory. So it took some tinkering until I found a way to angle the device towards the ground a small amount and it reduces the false triggers. At night it works the best as there's less overall interference to cause false triggers. The sound alone can scare some animals and the water splattering all over the place is a bonus scare action. With decent water pressure the sprinkler easily shoots over 10 feet and can zone out a good area. My dogs had claim to my whole backyard and no matter what I tried other than fencing off an entire area, the dogs would do their business in the only areas I don't want them to. This was the most cost effective way to zone them out of a certain area. The good news is in several weeks, my area doesn't smell and there's no orange stains and soft tootsie rolls to clean up. It doesn't feel high quality but it doesn't leak, and at least the sensor works on my second unit. The only problem I have with it, is I have zero confidence in leaving this completely unattended as under the right circumstance, if it goes off, it could put itself into an indefinite loop of continually re-activating itself until the battery dies and it's flooded a small area 5 cups of water at a time. Another bonus is my younger kids like to pay chicken with it to see how close can they get before it sprays them. My dogs now respect it and they look at it with cautious eyes when they go out there. I also have never seen them urinate in my area as they get pelted with the sprinkler water, it usually makes them go in another area which is the point.

Check for leaks as hose need to be connected continuously.
Excellent, keeps deer and critters out of my garden. Needs to be checked periodically for hoses leaks and strong winds will set it off. Works so well I purchased another.

Low sensitivity/malfunction and won’t shut off
I bought this because of the price, as well as some of you were saying it had higher sensitivity than the orbit. If that’s true, then the orbit has extremely low sensitivity seeing as how this product is more miss than hit. I really never heard of going off at night so I would bet it doesn’t work at night since it really doesn’t work well during the day. I could run in front of it. I could wave my hand in front of it a dog could run in front of it and sometimes it would work. When it would work, it works great. Sometimes it will keep birds away if it senses them. Forget it picking up groundhogs no way. That’s why I bought this as well as birds. When it started malfunctioning and not shutting off, I didn’t think it would be a regular thing, but it turns out it is. I’ve only had this for one week. I gave it two Stars because the range is pretty good and it has a sprinkler setting that I really like. However, I will be returning this because it just doesn’t work properly. I even bought a brand new batteries and change them out and still no luck. Another thing about this product is when it is on the sprinkler setting, even if it is deep into the ground, it usually becomes unstable and falls and I noticed that it leaks pretty bad. It is a lower quality product and you can tell by the materials. My search continues.

No more squirrel problem.
I have tried everything to keep squirrels and raccoons out of my small veggie garden. This is the first, and only, thing that has worked. It worked so well that I have ordered another one. 😁

Tell company you put it in!
We got a few chickens. All was going well until they found our garden. Not even a vegetable garden. Apparently chickens love hydrangeas, like really love them. We went online to our chicken groups to find out what to do, apparently the only option was to fence the chickens in. I didn't like that option. I was about to find out if my kids liked the chickens more than my wife liked the flowers. I found this and we got it. Worked like an absolute charm. The chickens were very upset, but I will say they were fast leaners. Surprisingly, they only tried for a few days and haven't been back. The sprinkler is still there, but isn't even on anymore because they haven't been back. It also isn't on because everytime we had company over, they would get sprayed. I have a camera on that side of the house, I should actually take those videos and make my own YouTube channel and retire....

Not for small areas
Really good and works very well. but don't use it for small areas. on the lowest configuration, the small splashes can reach about 4m, and for me it's hitting a glass door which is bad for me, but the product itself is amazing

Buen producto.
El producto es bueno y funcional, fácil de armar, seria estupendo si la batería fuese solar. Es necesaria una buena presión en la línea de abastecimiento para que funcione plenamente.

Keeps the mother in law away.
Installed multiples around the compound and she has yet to breach the perimeter without getting a dose! Highly recommend. As a bonus feature it also keeps unwanted critters away.

This product can not last through snow season
Unfortunately, there are no temperature range defined in data sheet. We had snow and next morning the pipe burst when water wanted to spray when the sensor was activated by movement. This is hard to believe as this is a Canadian product where snow is the order of the day during winter season. Extremely disappointed as this product lasted not even 3 months.
