A whimsical and imaginative catalog of fantastical beasts and creatures of myth and legend from around the world-complete with a code that needs cracking to uncover the mystery of the monster atlas! One day a collection of very old maps is found in a dusty library. They show where in the world monsters and creatures from mythology and folklore can be found. According to the notes left with the maps, they were made by Cornelius Walters, an intrepid explorer from the 15th century. But did Walters really make these elaborate maps, or is it all a hoax? The librarian who discovered them is not certain . . . and what are the strange messages in a cryptic code that Walters records in his ship's log? The codes throughout, once cracked, may indeed lead to something sinister that will happen should the atlas ever be published! This is a gorgeously illustrated and comprehensive catalog of monsters, beasts, and mythical creatures from around the globe, with an easy-to-read format and incredible detail on each spread. Review: Great for monster lovers - This is a fun book that our little one will enjoy later. Our little bit went from monster lover to scared. So this book has gone into hiding. I would say it is for older children. It does have fun illustrations of creatures and where they are from with histories and what not. It’s a neat book. Review: Fun Fantasy Creature Atlas - We discovered this book through our local library (yay for libraries!) and my daughter asked me to get her a copy of her own. It’s a wonderful Atlas of mythical creatures and includes origin countries and descriptions. As lovers of all things fantasy, this is a wonderful book :)

Perfect gift for kids or adults
This book is meant for kids, we bought it for our sons 8th birthday. He’s into myths and legends right now so we thought this book can give him an idea of creatures around the world, then he can look into it more on his own. It shows different regions around the world and gives you a little story behind each creature or legend. My husband and I ended up looking at the book for a while, very interesting!

Fun book
Purchased this as a Christmas gift for our 6 year old, he thoroughly enjoys it. He isn't able to read it yet himself, most of the names are strange and difficult to pronounce. But he really enjoys looking through the photos of different Monsters and listening to us read it to him. We also love how big the book is too, nice hard back and has good quality pages.

Looks "ancient"~in a good way
We had borrowed this book from the library ages ago and my son really loved it. Found it and when it arrived today, he was very excited. This book is more detailed then some of the other books he has received on the topic. He likes how it looks like parchment and has "cool images."

So fun!
I love the added coded "game" they have in it. The creatures are so fun with maps and regions to make it easy to look up the lore.

Fabulous book
An absolutely gorgeous book. Fascinating to read, I've studied some of the maps and monsters with my Y5 class and it has really ignited their imagination. There's also a secret code to crack with clues on every page which they have all been racing to crack! Fab size too, it's a large book. Highly recommend.
