The Girls Are Gone: The True Story of Two Sisters Who Vanished, the Father Who Kept Searching, and the Adults Who Conspired to Keep the Truth Hidden

I've always enjoyed reading true stories. This was so sad in many ways, but ended with happiness. It was so very heartbreaking that a mother could turn on her children like she did. Thank goodness they had a loving father, aunt, grandparents and many others that helped heal the pain.

The thing about independent publishing I suppose is that you don’t get the benefit of a good editor. For example, court transcripts in an exhibit word not interfere with the flow of reading so much. Integrated writing rather than “Michael” sections or “Allyson” sections would have been nice. But the story is so compelling and detailed, so elucidative, that I ignored that stuff and was riveted. Sandra no doubt has a serious cluster B personality disorder, probably borderline comorbid with narcissistic with histrionic for kicks. She is vety very I’ll. You could also say she is evil. Pure evil. If you say that, then you have to add her mentally ill disciples, Michelle Macdonald and the rest of Sandra’s enablers and coconspirators. This is not the first father to find himself in this situation (parental alienation and false accusations of abuse), but few have suffered so much from the kidnapping of their children and endured and fought so hard. This is an important story to tell and never forget. The culprits continue to this day to spread their delusions, this book tells the actual story. Sad, but worth reading and never forgetting.

While the story is true and interesting, it’s not really story-like. It’s cut and dry repetitive court transcripts. The real “story” of what happened isnt revealed until the very last chapter of the book. Sometimes (maybe due to formatting), it was difficult to read/understand due to (surprisingly) many errors in grammar and spelling. I couldn’t imagine this book being on a best seller list.

The fact that this is an actual true story is heartbreaking. My heart breaks for the kids and David. Im so glad the story ended how it did.

The book was great and so moving and just poweful. I felt for this family and what they were going thru in my soul. I can not imagine ever putting anyine thru something that devistating. It just proves that Love will win in the end and David sure showed his love for his children. Sad and moving it made me Mad at times all of the sruff that was happening in this . I hate to say its a good story because its true and beyond shockingly twited and messed up with so much happening. And the whole time I was reading it I was tinking about my own kids and what I would do if they were missing for that long. But it was a well written and very emotional journey and I felt for this Dad everystep of the way. Thank you for allowing your story to be told and shared,

The authors told a compelling story of 2 sisters missing. I was hooked from the beginning. However, that changed soon thereafter when the story focused on the court transcripts regarding the parent's divorce, custody, etc... The same facts are repeated many times often and got a little boring. Once I got through the boring part, the story started to come together and was a really good book. It's obvious that the authors did a lot of research. As for me I feel like the book answered all my questions. Now that I'm finished with the book I can understand why the boring court pages in the beginning were really needed to tell the story. In those pages you learn how "dysfunctional" the mother and her friends were. All in all I'm glad I read the book and would read another book by these authors again.

The topic of this book is intriguing especially since it is a true story. However, it reads like a first.draft. I wonder if all the quotes from the court, attorneys and the social worker are accurate. If so, these are not very articulate professionals. There is so much repetition. At times I can't tell if I'm reading a summary or a conclusion by one of the participants. I worked in juvenile justice including abandonment investigations and I would never have gotten away with some of these statements. I would like to know how things worked out but I can't get through the drudgery. Are the random all-caps titles chapter headings? There is little if any attempt to understand how this long married couple got to this point. The allegations of sexual abuse seem to have been glossed over. Really?! So in the end I just can't get through all 504 pages.

Extremely well written. Engaging, compassionate, inspiring. Imagine a reporter who actually conducts his life and works his profession based on a moral from which he does not waiver. Imagine this reporter putting the well being of two missing teens, (and the efforts to reunite them with their family) ABOVE any desire to publish a mouth watering tabloid page turner. Imagine this talented reporter actually having a hand in finding the teens & helping them return to their family; and being so committed to the family that he stays with the case until the very end.. Michael Brodkorb & Allison Mann deserve as many accolades as possible for revealing the horrific, complex, years-long debacle that Mr. Rucki & his children endured, & highlighting this family’s resilient, indomitable spirit..

Just boring

This book is tough to read because of parent alienation, It happens all too often .. I am the Aunt..Aunt Jane missing her nephew x
