Roland Foods Roman Style Canned Artichoke Hearts with Stalks, 5 lb 8.2 oz

at first, i thought oh my goodness what am i going to do with 5 pounds? no problem .. they are wonderful alone, as a side, as an entree stuffed, and so many more ideas. they are tender, not overly salty or vinegary. they are beautiful on the plate as they have the long stem and inner bulb of the artichoke. nothing negative to say. just buy and enjoy.

Headline says it all, these are fantastic.

The artichoke hearts are womderful, the taste and texture are superb, but they are packaged poorly and more often than not the can arrives dented. Amazon has been good about the replacements, but really I'd prefer just a bit more padding in the box. I sure hope someone at Amazon reads this. This is a high quality item of exceptional value for the money, but just a little more padding would protect it from damage. As it is, dented cans should not be used.

Good flavor, no broken stalks, perfect serving portions and uniform size for even cooking.

The can did come dented, but that is not necessarily an issue for me ... of course I would rather not receive a dented can. These are delicious, so why only 2 stars ... I opened the can, and it was only filled maybe 3/4 with artichokes and then completely filled to the top with oil. According to the label, there should be 34 artichokes ... okay +/- due to size. But, there was only 24 artichokes and maybe 5 cups of oil. Very disappointed, but I will buy them again just to see if it happens again. Of course if it happens again, I would never order again.

The stems on these are very long and tender, the artichokes are full and round. On a buffet table your guests will be drawn to these, chances are good they have never seen artichokes look this way. I took out some of them to make an artichoke tart that called for frozen artichokes which I didn't have, so I substituted some of these to sautee up with sliced onion and seasonings...red pepper flakes, parsley, oregano, etc.. I drained them first from their oil bc they're packed in sunflower oil which is bland, then I added some of my good EVOO to the sautee. Just plain on a buffet I'd do the same, drain and dry them a bit; then add your own good EVOO. Sprinkle with parsley and serve as is. They don't taste as overly marinated as the ones in the small jars. I like these better.
