“The good old days, the good old days are all dead and gone”
As the Jefferson Starship once sang, quite prophetically as it turned out…“Hellblazer – The Good Old Days” collects issues #19-24 of the Rebirthed John Constantine series, bringing it to a close with an excellent six-part story. There is a plot afoot in Old London Town, hatched by the late Kray (“Day”) bothers, to break out of hell and resume control of their old empire....Guess who wanders into the middle of it, in search of an old girlfriend who, thanks to his recent meddling, has become a conduit for said deceased villains…It makes a change to have an apocalypse that has such modest aspirations, though John still has a bit of a struggle to sort it out, especially when one of the Gotham gang turns up.John: “I’m not Batman. Kill them all.”This is a story that fills the six issues without padding or skipping anything, a sign of an excellent writer who can fill just the right number of pages with stuff worth reading, even if his grasp of British slang may or may not be spot-on – just because I’ve lived in London for the past 40 years doesn’t mean that I am au fait with the voice of the East End, as I live South of the River.Anyway, this was ‘just’ another readable and entertaining Hellblazer story, with good art, plot, dialogue and characterisation....So, who is in the upcoming Justice League Dark comic, then?
