Fantastic Brace. I listed some things i would have liked to know before i bought it
I dislocated my knee a week ago, and the dr. didn't have a knee brace that would fit me, I do have bigger thighs and bikers calves, and none of the stores or medical supply places around had one either. So I turned to trusty Amazon.com and had to wait forever and a half for it to come. That is my only complaint. Based on some of the other reviews I was worried that this brace wouldn't fit, but it is plenty large for me. My knee is like 16-17" right over my patella, and 20" four inches above that. The XL is plenty big, I don't know if I could have gone a size down or not, though this will be nice because I can wear it on top of my pants instead of trying to find pants that cover it. I really like how it is a wrap around brace so that there is open space behind the knee where it doesn't bunch. I also like how it is Velcro so that it can be adjusted looser or tighter. I like that there are the four other Velcro straps (6 total) that I can tighten specific areas of the brace to better support my knee. When I came home from work and my knee was aching and having shooting pains, then I tried this brace on for the first time (it had arrived while I was at work) it was amazing! It has all of the support in the right places and the pain went away within 15 mins of wearing it. I really like this brace!

Very high quality, top part of the brace is small
The brace is great, and really does what it's supposed to do but I have one complaint. The brace is as wide on the top as it is on the bottom. Most people's thighs are wider than their calves (as are mine) so it's quite tight on the thighs. It's not terrible though, and the brace is of very high quality. UPDATE** 4/11/2011 I was a little overweight when I wrote this review it seems. I have to wear it to keep my knee in place while exercising and while working, and it fits perfectly now. The metal hinges allow movement but keep pressure on your knee to ensure everything flows smoothly. I lost about 20 pounds since I wrote the review, so as you can imagine, I have less thigh fat to prevent this product from fitting me correctly. I changed my star rating from 4* to 5*.

not for even slightly muscled people
This is a good brace for the money but I'm not necessarily thrilled with the fit for me. I was swimming in the XL at it's smallest setting. The L is fine for my calf but too small for my thigh. I used to be seriously into lifting years ago but I am nowhere near the size I used to be. I find it hard to believe my legs are still that disproportionate to that of normal sized people. I have the rear thigh straps barely hanging on at it's widest setting. I am not some abnormal height or weight so I find this a little disappointing. The brace is very versatile as it can be adjusted from the front and rear. My only gripe about the design is that the rear straps and velcro can cause some pinching when bending if you don't set it just right. Maybe I should be looking for "athletic fit" braces but I just feel the sizing of this could have been thought out better. Overall the brace offers good support and the comfort is OK once you get the sizing situation down. If you have an average build, I would recommend this brace.

More support and comfort than my two other braces; 3-joint hinges; Orthopedist liked it best
This is the third hinged knee brace I've tried, and it's by far the most supportive and the most comfortable. The hinges on the other two braces dig into my medial knee joint. This one's arms enough of a bend in them that they don't rub on my leg. Unlike my other two braces, the hinge has THREE joints (see photos - most other braces have only two) so it flexes better with my knee AND I can feel the support. Compared to this one, the other braces are a bit like wet noodles. The only downside is that the support means I can't bend my knee as much. I took all three braces to show my orthopedist, and he told me to use this one.

Great hinged knee brace
This knee brace is amazing! I'm on the short side, 5'0 feet and thick thighs. and purchased the XL. The XL fits great, but I def could've gone with the large. My orthopedic suggested I buy one from Amazon because the ones her office sold where over $200. She told me to look for hinged knee braces specifically. I got overwhelmed by all the options and eventually finally settled with this one. The pressure it provides is AMAZING. It just hugs my knee so great. I typically have to be standing to put it on, but it fits great. It does tend to move if I don't have it on tight enough or correctly placed around my knee cap. I don't have others to compare it to, but personally very happy with the pressure and help it provides me.

Great for those with collateral ligament issues
I've damaged my knees several times over 53 years of living, especially the right knee. I've started the Couch to 5K program several times, but always had to stop because my knees would get sore, swell, get stiff, and generally made it impossible to continue much past week 3. So when the Week 3 blues set in, I looked at the mound of old knee braces I had and realized none of them had done me much good, primarily because none of them had done anything to support my collateral ligaments and prevent side-to-side wobble. I went looking for recommendations, and the Mueller #3333 braces were mentioned quite often in positive terms. I ordered them and received them yesterday. I tried them on and was immediately impressed with the solidity of the hinges and the ingenious system of the strapping -- you have the usual overlapping velcro straps, but Mueller has done away with the annoying back-of-the-knee strap in this model and replaced it instead with a donut ring to stabilize the patella and straps above and below the knee to further tighten and secure the body of the brace. Today I started week 4 of the C25K program, which features two 3 min and two 5 min runs interleaved with 90 sec and 2:30 sec walks, and wore these braces. My knees feel fantastic! Of course I iced them after and took Tylenol, but before I wore these braces I would still get stiff and sore. It's 5 hours after the workout, and my knees still feel loose and normal. I definitely recommend these braces. Plus, they actually fit!

Good...but not for what I need.
Ok, so I am not a doctor, nurse or in any way in the medical field, so this review is totally unofficial... I recently hyper-extended my knee in a tennis match. The MRI showed a micro tear in my lateral ligament and damage in my meniscus. Initially, I could not even walk without a cane. I wore brace, after brace looking for something that would be comfortable all day, but give support to aid in the healing process. I actually ended up using my old one from college b/c I could not find anything "newer" as a replacement. That was 2 months ago. Feeling better now and started playing tennis again casually for excercise. AGAIN, I am not a doctor and the following is just my humble opinion... I feel this brace is designed more for convenience rather than real support. You could definitely use this at the tail end of your recovery to help support your knees though. This is why...The brace is put on by velcro on the back of the brace, then tightened by straps that pull through buckles for adjustment. Not a bad idea if you already have your shoes on and need to put on/take off the brace. Not so good to keep your knee aligned. My old brace was a slip on type, so the whole brace was supporting my knee joint above, at and below the knee. Also, the metal supports on this model are only held in by tension at the ends and are quite easily removed (again, for convenience). This also means it moves around quite a bit while the brace is on. I haven't played with it on as I will be trying to return it, but I have walked around the house and tried straightening my knee and I feel the metal supports do not stop hyperextension. In my old brace, the metal is sewn into the sides so they are pulled tight to the knee from top to bottom (especially at the knee hinge where I personally feel it is most important). Because this brace's hinge is "floating" it will not give me the lateral support I need.

measure upper and lower part of leg around knee before ordering.
the brace works well, but is pretty bulky. Just barely fits under my jeans, and I don't know if it will be big enough to go over them. Does support my knee.
