Review: Encouraging Book - The sentence completions tips are good but I personally don't really care for them. For sentence completions just drill DH vocab words and you'll be set.(Check out my review for the Direct Hits books) The real fun starts on Chapter 7 when the book goes in depth on one of the hardest parts of the Sat (The Passage Based Reading). I also like the Confidence Quotations in the book. The quotes give you the will power to keep moving on. I highly recommended writing down your favorites quotes so you can recite them daily or whenever you have the time. The book also features an appendix. The appendix has 700 "Repeat Offenders" words and some Roots and Affixes. Overall, this book has all the bang for your buck or however they say that. I went from a 400-460 range on critical reading. I'm scoring 580's on Critical reading tests now. I will take the October and November sat. I will update this review when those scores come back to me. Review: Pretty solid information - Seems to have a lot of useful information. After working through half the book, my son increased his score on a practice test by 50 points. Hoping for another 50 points by the end of the book.

Amazing improvement!!!!!!
I bought this book because my son, a junior getting ready for the SAT was having a hard time comprehending the passages on the practice SAT tests. He literately read the whole bible and did the exercises and learned all the words they recommended. Surprisingly he got a 1860 on the SAT!!! 620 in each section. As a sophmore he got 430 on the PSAT!!!! It helped him a lot. Also, have the kids do more practice books and lots of practice tests. I hope this helps. Good luck!

Superior book around SAT reading
Most books state: active reading is important... and then go to strategies that assume active reading. The reading part of this book (starting at chapter 7) give advice and exercises at building in that active reading for students who are prone to doze off when the passages are hard, abstract, or obscure. I have previewed many books for SAT reading, this is the best at providing strategies during reading, and challenges (that are almost puzzle like solving) per answering questions.

Clear Cut
Better than Rocket Review but the author's need to review it because in the Answers to the Practice Sets, there are mistakes. Over all, great book, really helped me in Reading Comprehension. Just add one more thing: in the Paired Comparison Passages, Read Passage 1, Answer all Passage 1 Questions only and *(Addition) in questions that refer to both passages, mark choices which refer only to Passage 1*.

strength in the details
I have been teaching SAT Critical Reading for eight years now. I like the attention to detail and the different kinds of exercises. For example, if you have are having trouble with inferences, there are passages here that ask nothing but inference questions.
