EcoPlus Chiller, 1/2 HP

I picked up a refurbished unit for my 46 gallon bowfront. I wanted something a little beefy for my aquarium that would be able to hit temperatures of 68 degrees F or lower when the weather gets hot for my new newts. One thing to note is that this unit requires a rather high minimum flow rate (633 GPH). I paired this unit with an EcoPlus 633 submersible/inline pump and am using it to drive my canister filter and chiller at the same time. It is working perfectly. it hit 80 degrees F outside today and this chiller has kept my aquarium at 68 degrees F without making much of an effort.

KEEPING THE TEMP OF THE WATER IN MY BARREL HAS MADE IT MUCH EASIER TO CONTROL THE PH AT THE EXCEPT-ABLE LEVELS WITH LITTLE EFFORT OR CHEMICALS. IT ALSO HAS A DRASTIC EFFECT ON THE PLANTS ABILITY TO ABSORB THE NUTRIENTS FOR A BETTER GROW. I WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS TO ANYONE THAT DOES NOT NEED TO CONTROL THE TEMP OF 30 TO 50 GALS OF WATER. IF YOU NEED TO CONTROL LARGER AMOUNTS OF WATER THEN THE 1/4 OR 1/2 WOULD BE A BETTER FIT.

Worked for less then a month then broke down. Completely stopped cooling. I had the 1/10th HP chiller on a 34 gallon tank and after a few weeks it completely crapped out. Tank went to high 80s and a bunch of corals died. I thought maybe there was a kink in the tubing so I took it off the tank and tried it on a 5 gallon bucket of water - nope! Nothing. Would not cool anymore!! Not even a month into it. I was using a pump with flow rate less than 300 gph and the chiller was kept outside of the cabinet with room around it. Totally unhappy with the purchase. If a chiller doesn't last more than a few weeks, its not a reliable product. I wish I could give this zero stars.

It takes to long to bring down temp , gives out to much heat but it works

This device was my first foray into water chillers and I picked a good one. The device steadfastly keeps the water in my system less than a half a degree below where I set the temperature. I've been using it for a couple months now and never had a problem. Solid product that performs exactly as advertised.

It got here quickly and safely. The screw clamps that come with the package were totally stripped and had to be replaced. Other than that, all parts work. When I took it out of the box, it still had water on the fittings, and I imagine in the unit as well- So you might want to clean it before use. The question is, how well does it work? It is advertised to chill 100 gallons of water by 30 degrees(F).. and 170 gallons by 10 degrees(F). I have 45 gallons, at the very most, that needs to be chilled from 83 degrees to 55 degrees and it will not do this. If I set the temperature at 58 degrees, it rarely gets below 67. The lowest I've seen it go is 61. In reality I probably only have 30-35 gallons to be chilled, so I am a little disappointed. However, it could be worse. This unit is not too noisy, and the heat it puts off is not so bad if given enough space. It is easy to operate.

I've been using this 1/10 HP chiller for nearly a year to cool a 50-gallon axolotl tank to 70-degrees. So far, it's been able to keep up with the hot Louisiana weather with no problems!

My fish love me for buying this. I have a 100 gallon tank with metal halide lights that heat the tank up. Keeps it at the set temp.
