ROY01512 ROYAL PURPLE SYNCHROMAX QT. TRANSFLUID, 1 Quart (32 Ounces)

Got this to replace the MTX fluid in my 1998 Contour SVT, which I'm sure was still running the original fluid. The tranny felt like the former owner got a little too happy with the power shifts into 2nd--the synchro was really feeling like it was going to need replacement...something I really didn't want to tackle this year. Figured changing the fluid probably wouldn't help, but it was way over due anyway so I figured I'd just go ahead and do it. I did a quick search to see what type of fluid to use in it, and I kept seeing people recommend this... Now, I've been wrenching for more than 20 years, and I'm HIGHLY skeptical of anything that smells like "rebuild in a can", but I also try to keep an open mind...and frankly there were so many people recommending this I thought it was at least worth a try. Even if it didn't help at all, I figured it was probably no worse than the factory stuff. Had to be better than the almost 20 year old stuff in the car anyway lol. Anyway, I did a quick drain a replace, and took it out for a test drive. Frankly I was shocked at the difference...the improvement was immediate and very noticeable. The car shifted MUCH smoother, and I was very pleasantly surprised at how much quieter the car was. Does it shift like new? No. I can still feel the wear on the 2nd and 1st gear synchronizers...BUT, it's soooo much better than it was. So much so that I'm not worried about tearing into the tranny any time soon. I don't care if I get better gas mileage or anything else, the fact that it works so much better than it did would easily be worth twice or even three times what I paid. I'm very pragmatic when it comes to my repairs...I just want something that works. And this really does work. I'd recommend this to anyone doing a fluid change.

I replaced the manual transmission fluid and differential oil in my 1998 BMW 323is, both of which hadn't been changed in at least 100,000 miles. This fluid in the transmission and RP Max Gear 75W-90 in the differential. I expected some improvement, but it runs much quieter and smoother than I thought it could. Sometimes it is like I nudge the shift and it sucks it into the gear I want. Really surprising how smooth it is. And my car is quieter even though I never thought it was noisy before. Now the main sound is the engine when accelerating and if I'm at cruising speed I just notice the quiet. Having said that, I should note that the existing transmission fluid was black and only about 1/4 to 1/3 full. There was some form of slow leak since the transmission was caked with dirt and oil yet I never had stains where I park my car. So I'm comparing to what was an obviously under-filled transmission with old fluid. The first 50 miles or so after replacing the oil the shifting was notchy and terrible and I was thinking I'd have to put something else in. I was also worried I'd fried it due to low fluid. But then one day it shifted smoother, and the next even smoother, until it was noticeably better than before. Now a week later I'm really impressed. Forgot to mention my transmission is one of the manual ones that take automatic transmission fluid (Getrag) and this is rated for that usage. Also I've noticed I have to go to 2nd gear much sooner now because the car gets to speed much quicker. So it seems to be responding better to the throttle as well. That seemed to have happened right after the change but I was babying the car due to the rough shifting so I only really accelerated normally a few days ago. Update 06/2012 - Several tanks of gas later and my MPG is higher. Really improved the highway MPG, and it just did 32.09 MPG, doing the relatively flat round trip Los Angeles to Palm Springs plus some other mainly highway driving. My car has been getting 23 to 24 for the last two years and maybe 25 to 26 before that. I've only hit 32 mpg once before in August 2009, and have had only 6 tanks of gas get over 30 mpg in the almost 12 years I've owned the car. Stop and go driving is just slightly higher than before though as the prior three tanks of gas were 23.03 mpg, 27.38 mpg, 24.99 mpg. Update 10/2012 - The mpg the last 3 tanks of start and stop local driving were all over 27 mpg. The EPA estimated mpg for my car was 17 city/ 25 highway. So it seems to be doing well given it has the original engine and transmission.

I have a 88 F250 with the ZF5 (5 speed) transmission and a 460 (7.5l) V8. This stuff is awesome, I've always liked Royal Purple oil, and have used several other products with good result. I decided to change out my gear box oil/ATF and wanted something that offered a little bit better protection for a manual gearbox, namely better protection for the "yellow metals" (like brass and Copper) that are used in manual transmissions. I was looking just to replace my existing fluid with something a little better, what I was NOT expecting was a significant change in performance... my gearbox now shifts MUCH more smoothly than before, it used to be a little hard to get into 2nd (you normally start in 2nd on a ZF5 when not rowing), especially if the gearbox was really cold. This thing is now as easy to shift as I imagine it was when it was BRAND NEW! It took about 50-100 miles for it to have this effect, but let me tell, it's awesome (and was entirely unexpected)! If you have a Ford with a ZF5 or ZF6, this is the right choice for your gearbox (oh, and transfer case too!) and although it's a little pricey, it's worth every penny! The 6 quart pack was enough to do both my transmission and transfer case with about a third of a bottle (12oz) left.

It works well for my friend’s manual Jeep. It makes it shift a lot better and it is pretty good quality. It is say to put in if you have a pump to pump it in from the bottle to the transmission. It helps to stop leaks and is quick to dip it in. The only issue is that it is expensive.

I drive a 2006 Acura RSX Type-S. The car is great with right amount of luxury, slightly more performance than I needed for "fun" driving, and good 29 mixed MPG. However, if you search for "RSX 3rd gear," there are lots of frustrated "Honda manual" owners out there. The third gear was a pain and completely unpredictable. It's okay to live with, because the car is otherwise great. From time to time, frequently yet hard to predict, I'd have a hard time getting it in or it would pop out after it just went in. Otherwise, ALL the other gears (6spd) are smooth. I saw the reviews here, but I was skeptical at how could this be better than Honda OEM tranny fluid. I figured I can't go wrong if it can go into BMWs. I am glad I tried it. Two bottle (2 qt)of this and $50 labor fee later, the transmission was smooth as butter!!! It felt soooo nice. All the gears just slip into position. I was even able to shift quicker as an unexpected bonus. I waited two weeks of driving it before writing this review, and sure enough, the transmission performed like a dream. Third gear never gave me any problem again. This RP solved my transmission problem, increased its performance, and possibly, saved me a transmission rebuilt down the road. Simply awesome!

I heard that the Royal Purple 01512 could be used as a less expensive alternative to the outrageously expensive Versatrak fluid. 1 year after replacing the original differential in my 2003 Chevy Venture with a used junkyard one, differential #2 was groaning worse and worse on even slight turns, even after I put in new Versatrak fluid twice and drove in alternating circles until I was dizzy (like you are supposed to do to work the fluid into the clutch packs). Still the groaning from the differential, and now from me as well. Another used differential would cost $600 to $1200 dollars and the local Chevy dealer wanted $4300.00 plus labor for a new differential since they claimed they couldn't get a rebuild kit. So I figured "what have I got to lose?" and I tried the Royal Purple. After putting in the fluid, I believe I probably set a new world record for driving a versatrak GM junker in circles: I drove in right and left circles for three minute per direction, never stopping until 45 minutes had passed. Needless to say, I did not eat for the next 24 hours. Tip: I used the "spinning dancer" head turn trick each half turn to reduce dizziness. After about 30 minutes (long after I had lost hope) the groaning actually began to lessen, and then--it finally went away after about 40 minutes! But the groan came back after the differential cooled down (but it was only half as loud now). Undaunted, I began the "circling" process again. This time it only took 20 minutes to get rid of the groan. The next day, the groan was back again, but now barely perceptible. 10 minutes of alternating circles this time until silence was achieved. Now, after a week, the groan is still all but gone: only slightly audible on only the sharpest of turns. But I must have worn about 20 percent of the tread off the front tires with the endless circling- and the looks from people! So was it the fluid that helped, or my endless parking-lot circling? The world may never know, but I still heartily recommend the purplemax fluid for a versatrak differential, especially if you become as desperate as I was. P.S. I am going to trade in my Venture before the noise comes back again!

No he notado ninguna diferencia ni mejoría respecto al aceite de transmisión de la marca Honda. Esto quiere decir que es un producto caro para lo que ofrece. Probé un producto de una reconocida marca alemana y he notado una diferencia importante, las marchas entran mas suaves y no me cuesta meter la marcha atrás. Mi conclusión es que es un producto caro para lo que ofrece. El aceite de transmisión de la marca alemana es a mitad de precio y me va mucho mejor.
