No, it doesn't come with a strainer or lid.

Is this item BPA free?

I honestly don't know. BUT, if the description does not specify BPA free, which this separator's description does not, then I would guess that it is NOT BPA free. That seems to be a big selling point and would probably be mentioned. HOWEVER, I personally do not care. I only have a liquid in the separator for literally a few minutes, and as long as it is not sitting in the separator for hours or days, I simply do not worry about it. This is a great size and works very well. I only use it occasionally, for very, very short periods of time. So, no problem for me.
