Order the one that's shipped and sold by amazon, it's the newest 2017 rendition and fixes quality and emulation problems.
I got the newest 2017 revision and plays SNES and Super Famicom games great (including cheaper reproductions) waiting on brand new repronduction of Japanese Super Famicom version of Donkey Kong Country 2 😁, like look of Super Famicom carts better. They fixed a lot of quality complaints I've seen from older revisions, supposedly this revision will play all NES, Super NES, and Super Famicom games. Also the switch to change between NES and Super NES/Super Famicom has had a major quality upgrade, almost feels like the real Super Nintendo power switch, just a word of warning, when you press the eject button for the SNES/SFAM games have one hand over the cart to catch it because if you don't it will literally launch it into the air, which I don't understand because the cartridges go in so nice, no crunching noise or anything just a high quality sound when the cartridge contact boards enter the consoles cartridge pin slot, it must use the new Hyperkin High Precision Pins like they put on the Retron 5. I didn't want an HD SNES (I don't like 8 bit NES) so all I use it for is Super NES because it's my favorite console of all time but never got one till now, haha. But yeah I have a REALLY nice JVC I'Art 19 inch flat tube TV, even has component input, makes Sony Wega Tube TV's look like trash, for my classic consoles, and the fact that this has an S-Video out and came with the cable plus av cable which I just pulled off the yellow video cable to have it hooked up through S-Video and than the stereo audio red and white cables. Picture is very good, had someone bring his real original super Nintendo over, sound was of equal quality, but mines picture was so much sharper due to S-Video, people plug these into HD TV's and wonder why there is scan lines, it actually looks worse on HD unless you get the Hyperkin Super HD which upscales it, and gets rid of scan lines but than your not getting the original picture. I'm a stickler for using my flat tube TV for classic systems. All in all I give this 5 stars, my only complaint is the controller cables are too short, but they make up for that by using the original controller ports. If you order this one you will get the latest 2017 edition I got and will get the quality updates it comes with including better emulation and quality, so definitely order the shipped and sold by Amazon one so you get the newest revision because I have seen houw cheap some if the older models are and this is a huge improvement. And it's supposed to be able to play all games, next game I'm getting is Japanese reproduction of street fighter Alpha 2.

Obviously not as good as the original
Obviously not as good as the original, but works okay. We really struggled getting it to play our games at first, so much so that I was ready to pack it up and send it back but my husband finally got it working. You have to play with it a lot to get the NES games to play, but eventually it should work.

Great product for the price
Great product for the price, however, one of the buttons on the SNES controller came out of the box NOT working. I expected as much with it being so cheap but still. If you plan on purchasing one of these sweet consoles also plan on purchasing controllers of a better quality.

So far, pretty good experience
I have read a lot of reviews on Retrons of different numbers, and it made me wary of the product, but since I have some NES and SNES games and my actual SNES died of thus far unknown causes, it put me in the market for something new. Plus I don't have an NES, yet I had a few NES games that I couldn't play without some kind of special adapter. After looking at my options and the games I actually own, I decided the safe bet was to try the Retron 2.Honestly, I'm impressed. Bottom line is, it played the games with no issues as far as sound or picture (apart from just not translating well onto newer TVs--I've played the Retron 5 once, and that one doesn't seem to have that problem; the SNES games I played looked just fine, but I had to adjust settings on my TV to get a decent picture for NES). That's really all that matters to me: does it play the games without any problems? The answer so far is yes.The console itself definitely looks and feels like an SNES--I would say it is almost as heavy as an SNES. I thought it would feel cheaper. The plastic it was packaged in certainly did, but the console seems sturdy to me. (Obviously I would not recommend dropping it, I'm just saying it didn't feel like it would fall apart in my hands or anything.) The controllers that came with it worked great. I have yet to try my own SNES controllers on it.If there is a con, the biggest fault that keeps me from giving it five stars, it's the fit of the cartridges. It is as you have likely read before if you're looking into these--NES cartridges are hard to get out. The SNES slot has an Eject button, which solves that issue for SNES games. But if you love your NES cartridges, take a lot of care and precision in putting them in and taking them out of the slot. Too much pressure either way will likely end badly. Just hold down the console and gently pull the cartridge out. This is probably the single most important thing for them to get right, and they simply don't. I haven't had a chance to test a lot of games, but I tried one NES game (Bad Dudes) and two SNES games (Super Street Fighter II and Super Star Wars). All three worked perfectly. Well, not Bad Dudes, but that one had to be cleaned, and then it worked just fine. Inserting the cartridge is a little different--you can't quite be sure if you've done it right until you power it on. Try not to press down too hard on the games--the way the slot is designed makes it hard to tell if you did it right, so test it out carefully.I can't answer any questions about which games work on it beyond those three. I might consider adding more to a list as I try them out, although I imagine others have already done that, so it's probably unnecessary. But at this point, I would say it's absolutely worth the price and beats trying to find original consoles.

Should have bought this LONG ago....
Mine works PERFECT. So for $40 I have resurrected my NES and SNES games from the depths of my closet. And these games look great and sound great on my modern flat screen TV. There are a few negative comments about this product in these reviews - I was aware of these and looked for them when first trying it out. Didn't find any of them. Yes, it's made out of plastic, not carbon steel, but it works, it does exactly what it is advertised to do, very happy with this purchase, I like it, and you can't have it back.

Not worth it
I thought this thing was great at first. But then it just stopped working, it hadn't been moved since I bought it, it seems to be a power issue.
