CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser for Daily Face Washing

I regret that it took me so long to discover CeraVe -- I wish I had known about this stuff years ago! In this review I'm going to cover all the CeraVe products I've used, not just the Hydrating Cleanser I'm posting this under. I am in my 40s and have had "difficult" skin since I was a teenager. I've suffered frequent breakouts my entire adult life, and as I've gotten older my skin has somehow managed to become dry and oily at the same time. I have tried so many products over the years, many of them costing much more than this stuff, and nothing has really worked well and consistently for me until now. For the first time in my life, I have consistently clear skin -- I haven't had a breakout in months, and the dryness is pretty much under control too, even in the dead of winter! This is the regimen I use: 1) CeraVe Cleanser -- I first started with the Foaming Cleanser. That didn't break me out, but it was drying, so I've shelved it for now (might go back to it during the summer months). Instead I'm using the Hydrating Cleanser now, and this stuff is a dream. It doesn't lather, which took some getting used to, but it goes on like silk and feels so nice on my skin. It takes off makeup easily, and helps with dryness. No breakouts, no flakes, no redness, yay. 2) Toner -- I use plain witch hazel as a toner (Witch Hazel Distillate by The Homestead Company, http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B004TH71W0 . Love this stuff, it's the only alcohol-free witch hazel I've ever found.) 3) CeraVe Moisturizer -- I use the AM in the AM and the PM in the PM :) Both feel awesome on my skin, absorb nicely, have no scent, and don't irritate or break me out in any way. The AM is thicker due to its SPF, while the PM is thinner and lighter. Love both of them, they work beautifully with my skin and feel fantastic. 4) CeraVe Eye Repair Cream -- This is the only CeraVe product that I've felt underwhelmed by. It feels nice and doesn't have any ill effects, but it doesn't really seem to do anything positive either. In my experience, that's true of most eye creams (ha). I can't really recommend this one, because I saw no change at all with it. 5) CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion and CeraVe Moisturizing Cream -- I use the lotion as a body lotion after showering, and I use the cream as a hand cream. The lotion is thinner and lighter, while the cream is thick and rich. I really like both of them, the cream especially. None of the CeraVe products have a scent to them, which I really appreciate. None of them irritate my ridiculously sensitive skin in any way. All of them (except the eye cream) have improved my skin in remarkable and immediate ways. And they are all dirt cheap!! I still can't believe how amazing this stuff is. I wish I had known about it years and years ago. I have never been happier with a line of skin care products, and I have tried a bunch of them. I cannot recommend this stuff highly enough and hope they never ever stop making it.

EDIT: I have recently stopped using both Ponds cold cream and Dermalogica multi-active toner, as I felt like I was spending too much money and too much time futzing with those products. My skin actually looks even better now, which has led me to love this cleanser (and the CeraVe lotion) even more! My routine is SO simple now - cleanse and moisturize with CeraVe each morning, apply my mineral powder makeup, and then cleanse and moisturize with CeraVe each night! I love how easily my makeup comes off and I am even happier with my skin now than ever before! LOVE the CeraVe brand and highly recommend. This is my favorite cleanser! I have been using it twice daily for about six months so far, and I absolutely love it. I have red hair and fair, sensitive skin. I never used to have problems with my face - it was never oily or dry, just "normal" with maybe a pimple or two every now and then. But then about 2-3 years ago (I am currently 22 years old, FYI) I started getting clusters of breakouts. These were typically inflamed red pimples, not whiteheads or blackheads, and they occurred mainly on my forehead and chin/mouth as well as occasionally on/around my nose. I tried everything (Proactiv, Cetaphil, Neutrogena, Clean and Clear, Aveeno, Clearasil, Burt's Bees, Skin ID, etc. - these have contained salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, sulfur, retinol, witch hazel, and tea tree oil) and NOTHING cleared my complexion. It was so frustrating! Then, based on positive reviews on acne.org, I decided to try out the CeraVe line. I am so glad I did because I LOVE IT! I still get occasional pimples, but overall I have a clearer complexion. I believe that all of the chemicals designed to get rid of acne were just too harsh for my skin, so this gentle cleanser is perfect. I use the hydrating cleanser morning and night every day, and then follow it with a spritz of Dermalogica multi-active toner (also a lovely product, in my opinion!) and a light layer of CeraVe lotion. I also apply Maybelline mineral powder foundation (or, when in a rush, Aveeno tinted moisturizer) each morning and remove it each night with Ponds cold cream before cleansing. I love the CeraVe cleanser because it is not drying at all and it has truly reduced my acne. I recommend it highly and plan to continue using it. My only complaint (and really, this is just my own problem) is that I often use quite a lot of the cleanser (3-5 pumps) each time, which means that I go through a bottle every few months. Still, I feel that's a small price to pay for nice skin. I love CeraVe and I hope you will give it a try and love it as well!

I had severe (worse than the google pictures- yeah, THAT bad) dyshidrotic eczema, meaning many soaps and cleansers were a no-no for me. For those of you unfamiliar with dyshidrotic eczema, it is an eczema that causes blistering, itchy rashes that later dry into scaly patches to the palms of the hands and sometimes soles of the feet (didn't affect my feet). My derm recommended using this to wash my hands, face, and body instead of soap or face wash. During the time I had dyshidrotic eczema (around two years. I've been completely clear for ~4 months now), this was my best friend. It didn't irritate my poor, cracked, blistering hands, and for that I loved it. It also left they semi-soft, which is saying a lot. I couldn't use anything else without it breaking out my eczema. BUT. It also made my body super soft. BUT. My face was not a fan of this cleanser. It broke out my acne prone skin, and gave it a really odd, waxy feeling. I know more people use this on their face than anything, and for that purpose I would not recommend it. If you have dyshidrotic eczema, however, this will become your best friend! I recommend you use it in conjunction with the moisturizing lotion and also the therapeutic hand cream, both also from cerave, both also recommended to me by my own dermatologist. I no longer find myself using this because my eczema is gone and also because, something I found out during my last few weeks battling dyshidrotic eczema, this product has parabens. :( So not only do I no longer have any use for this product (for now! fingers crossed that that horrible eczema doesn't come back!) but it's also potentially harmful in the long run. I once loved this product but will discontinue use. However, I still think it's an amazing product for skin that desperately needs to say hydrated.

I have extremely sensitive, dry skin. Just taking a shower leaves my face with a pink tone for a couple hours, and washing it - even softly, tends to leave it red and peeling for hours, or sometimes all day. This discouraged me from washing my face in the morning, since the redness would be noticeable to the point where it was embarrassing. For the past few years I've been trying random OTC cleansers and moisturizers, and all they did was make the redness and dryness worse. My skin was also flaking like 4 days out of every week, for the whole day...which was pretty embarrassing. I had to use tweezers to pull the flakes off, and that was time-consuming, and it'd just start peeling again after I talked a lot or ate a meal. This CeraVe is the only product I've used that has left my skin feeling and looking a lot better. After 2 months, I'll only see skin flaking maybe one day every couple of weeks. I use it 1-2 times a day, with a couple of drops of jojoba oil mixed in. As long as I scrub gently with it, my face rarely peels or turns red, and It usually goes back to looking pretty normal after just an hour. This means I can actually wash it in the morning and still leave the house without looking like a sunburn victim. I know it can take your skin a few months to really get use to/benefit from a product, so I'm looking forward to see if it'll help with most of my lifetime skin issues. So far, my skin is less pink in general, flaking 90% less, the tone is more even, and even after showering , shaving, or exercising my face is way less red than it would normally get(those things in particular use to make it incredibly sore and red - not so much anymore). There's less random irritation and less soreness throughout the day as well. Price is steep, but it's lasted me 7 weeks so far, and I think it has another 2-3 months left in it.

I always used facial cleansers from the drugstore. Over the past couple years I started getting dry patches, even though my T zone is extremely oily and large pores on my nose. After watching suggestions and reviews on YouTube, I found the world of CeraVe. When I received this I was weirded out by the lack of foam. Literally no foam at all. It looked as if I was putting lotion on my face. That's why I would give it only 4 stars. For newbies I wish more reviews warned us of the consistency. Once I got used to the non tight feeling of my face after washing and the non foam consistency like other face washes, this has been the best face wash I've used. My pores on my cheeks have tightened up some and my dry patches are no longer an issue. I still get an oil over drive but less than I previously did. Use this with the PM FACE LOTION. I'll say it again, the PM not am. Worth the try!

My skin is a HUGE priss. I'm 27 and I still get acne, along with the lovely cystic acne. Joy! My skin is also very very oily and it gets dry, tight, red and flaky, because, why not? With all these skin issues I use a lot of stuff on my skin to keep my acne at bay, but sometimes when using benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, or other acne fighting ingredients, my skin will get randomly hypersensitive-- leaving it really dry (but still oily!) red, and sometimes itchy. I told my dermatologist about this and she recommended using CeraVe when my skin gets irritated. I use the cleanser and the lotion, and I find it really helps calm my skin, all the while cleaning it thoroughly without causing me to breakout. Though it doesn't work to get rid of my acne as well as the other products I use, it definitely doesn't make it worse. It soothes my skin, eases the itchy redness, and helps balance the oils so my skin is moisturized without it being oily. Switching to this sometimes during the week instead of doing my regular regimen-- I find gives my skin a break and reduces the irritation from the other products. Also, the CeraVe cleanser is some of the best stuff I have ever used to remove eye makeup. Even with an eye makeup primer it comes off easily without hurting my eyes-- unlike some other eye makeup removers I have used in the past. I just put a little on a damp washcloth and wipe away! I have seen some reviews where it says it smells. To me neither the cleanser or lotion smells like anything at all-- So maybe some people smell something where others can't?

I had a coupon for CeraVe products and picked up both of the cleansers and their daily moisturizer. So happy I did, because they are amazing. TL;DR: I use both the Foaming and the Hydrating cleansers in my routine. They have different places, but are both wonderful cleansers, especially if you know how to get the most out of them. The cost is right on the money for a 12 ounce container and they last quite a while. I can generally get 3+ months out of one container using it once a day. Great value for great cleansers. I have Combination-Dehydrated/Extra Dry skin. Basically, my skin is generally dry, extra dry in the wintertime. Because of hormones from having a baby combined with enviromental factors, stress, and working on settling on a skincare routine that worked for me, my normally oily Tzone is dehydrated. Although it gets oily, the skin under the oil is flaky and can crack if not moisturized twice a day. Many products leave a minor stinging/burning sensation on these dehydrated spots, the sides of my nose especially. My skin is eczema prone and only sensitive to certain ingredients. FOAMING VS HYDRATING I use both. I run a korean skincare routine (and love it) and this is just what works for me. I like to use the foaming in the morning since all it needs to remove is any product residue from my nighttime routine as well as any dirt, oil, and sebum from my slumbers. The foaming cleanser comes out almost like a gel. I rub it between my fingers to get it to start to cream up before working it onto my skin in gentle circular movements. Adding just a bit of water will allow it to foam up gently on your face. It hardly takes any effort at all to make it work. On my extra dry skin, it does leave me with a bit of a tight "clean" feeling, but it doesn't make me feel dry. The hydrating cleanser I use as part of my nighttime routine. I dual cleanse, so I start with the The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Cleansing Light Oil to remove any makeup residue (See the makeup section below for more info) and sunscreen. Then I follow up with my CeraVe hydrating cleanser. I used to hate it because I felt like my skin wasn't getting clean enough. I knew I needed a hydrating cleanser, but my skin just didn't feel clean afterwards. Or rather, my skin felt clean, but not deeply clean like I experience with other cleansers. The cream cleanser just didn't seem to be able to work it's way, even slightly, into my pores. It was also the only time I had ever had an issue with finding any residual dirt on my cotton pad when using my toner afterwards. I blame my oily Tzone for this. My aesthetician recommended pairing it with a cleansing brush, so I pulled the Clarisonic I thought my skin was too sensitive for out of storage, popped on a new brush head (because two years in storage with a used brushhead? Yeah, no.) and went to town. I was amazed. Using a brush with the hydrating cleanser is a complete game changer. You don't even need a Clarisonic if you don't have one! They sell inexpensive manual brushes for a few dollars that will work just fine. Using a brush with it really changed how well it cleaned my face. My pores felt clean and no more residue on my toner pads. I use both cleansers because my skin is too sensitive for the use of my Clarisonic more than once a day, even with the sensitive brush heads. I -need- that clean pore feeling though, so that is why the foaming cleanser is my choice in the morning. I don't use the foaming cleanser alone because it is just harsh enough on my dry skin that I can't use it more than once a day. It is made for those with normal/oily skin though, so it's to be expected. So yes, my routine probably makes you balk at how much effort it takes, but this is what works for me and my skin. I am fine with the effort, and that is all that matters. Another part that is brilliant, is that you don't even need to follow up with toner unless you want to. The purpose of toner is to return your skin to it's natural pH. Both of these cleansers have about a 5.5pH even with water, which makes them right in line with your natural pH. I use my alcohol free toner anyway, but that's a personal preference. MAKEUP REMOVAL I don't actually use these for makeup removal. I personally like to use an eye/lip remover and a makeup wipe for significant makeup in the summer. I use a Ponds cold cream for significant makeup in the winter because of my need to combat my dry skin. My dual cleansing with the oil cleanser by The Face Shop is my preferred method because I don't feel like one cleanser can remove all your makeup and cleanse your skin. I feel that not dual cleansing just moves the makeup around on your face and leaves your toner to clean up the remaining bits so you can have a "clean enough" face. I want better than "clean enough" for my skin. Dual cleansing has been amazing for it's tone, texture, and the way my products work. You notice I say "significant makeup" there. Most days I will wear just BB cream and mascara, so on those days I will just jump right to my oil cleanser by The Face Shop. It removes those easily and without irritation. Full face makeup I feel like I have to do more scrubbing at my face to remove, which is why I like to remove more of it before washing instead of having to oil cleanse twice. All that being said, I did use both of these cleansers to remove makeup. I tried them with my simple BB cream + mascara routine, full face makeup, and full coverage foundation with a heavy smokey eye. FOAMING: Did a good job at removing all three makeup styles. BB+Mas was easy and came off with no effort. Full Face it did well, but couldn't remove the water proof mascara and struggled with the liquid liner of my cat eye. The Full coverage look it tried, but struggled. I found I had to wash my face, rinse, and then wash again to get any sort of a clean face and still ended up with a dirty toner pad at the end. It wasn't extremely dirty, but it was more dirt than I like to see after using a cleanser. Eye makeup removal did leave mild eye irritation. HYDRATING: Did a great job with all three makeup looks and did remove the waterproof mascara and the cat eye with ease. The Full Face and Full Coverage looks both required a wash, rinse, repeat in order to remove everything and even with the double wash, all three looks left dirt on my toner's cotton pad. The dirt wasn't so bad on the BB+Mas look, but the other two, when I didn't wash, rinse, repeat, was so dirty it would take 1-2 pads to remove it all. It was like it lifted the makeup off my skin, but then just moved it around. I might be a little too anal about how clean my face needs to be/feel, so your mileage might vary. I've tried dozens of cleansers, Western and Asian alike and these are both wonderful cleansers. The foaming can work for most skin types. Dry skin wants to be careful and sensitive skin might want to avoid it. The hydrating can work for everyone, though no as well on someone with very oily skin, but you will get the most out of your cleanser by using it with a cleansing brush of your choice. They might not be the best for makeup removal, but if you don't wear full coverage foundation (or don't have a problem with wash, rinse, repeat) and can live with using a separate eye/lip makeup remover, these can easily be amazing all the time cleansers in your routine. Now if only Amazon would add the Hydrating cleanser to their Subscribe and Save service instead of just the Add-On program.

This stuff is amazing. For years, I thought I was helping my skin by using harsh and stripping products on my face. I thought that if I didn't feel a burning or tingling sensation on my skin after use, the product wasn't working well enough. Fast-forward a few years and I've really started to become obsessed with my skincare routine. I try to use high-quality products that won't completely strip my skin, and will help me achieve smooth and glowy skin. My skin type is combination-oily, so it's really hard to find products that won't dry me out even more, but will also help keep my oil production down. I know that my oily skin is caused by having "dehydrated skin", basically I over-produce oil to compensate for not having enough moisture. This product hit every nail on the head. After using it, my skin feels fresh and plump instead of tight and dry. Also, my skin produces a lot less oil on the days that I use this compared to when I don't. This cleanser is also extremely gentile, and can be used on very sensitive skin. There aren't any fragrances which is great. The bottle is very large and you get a ton of product for the price. I also love the pump because it keeps everything hygienic. This is a great cleanser for those with finicky skin and it has made it's place into my every day beauty routine.

Cerave ist in den USA eine "Billigmarke" für gut gemachte, effektive Hautpflege , die vollgepackt ist mit guten Inhaltsstoffen, die ich in deutschen Drogerieprodukten vergeblich gesucht habe. Und auch die Inhaltsstofte in vielen hochgelobten, hochpreisigen Hautpflegeprodukten sehen dagegegen "alt" aus. Das einzige was bei den Cerave-Produkten "alt" aussieht ist die Verpackung. Aber da kommts ja nicht drauf an. Und zur Not kann man das Produkt ja auch in was Schickes umfüllen...:) Und nun zu dem Hydrating Cleanser: Was ist drin: Für die Gemeinde der INCI - AnbeterInnen : zu den Inhaltsstoffen brauche ich wohl nicht viel zu schreiben, einfach das Bild von Rückseite der Flasche mit dem garnicht mal so klein gedruckten Inhaltsstoffen anklicken. Für alle anderen, die einfach nur einen guten Cleanser suchen; viel Hyaluron und viele Ceramide, keine Duftstoffe und dank einer Verkapselungs-Technologie werden die guten Sachen den ganzen Tag über in die Haut geschleust, was will man mehr. Verpackung und Anwendung und Wirkung bei mir: Sehr gut ist schon mal die Pumpflasche. Ein Pump ist völlig ausreichend für das angefeuchtete Gesicht und Hals. Cleanser mit den Händen oder besser noch dem Clarisonic in die Haut einmassieren. Mit lauwarmen Wasser abspülen und fertig ist die Laube. Die Haut ist super gereinigt, schön weich und für die weiteren Pflegeschritte vorbereitet, Nach dem Reinigen spannt und brennt nichts aber auch garnichts, da rötelt nichts, da muss nicht sofort eine rettende Feuchtigkeitscreme drübergegeben werden, weil die Gesichtshaut so ausgelaugt ist wie die die Wüste Gobi ..., ganz im Gegenteil, dke Haut ist genial durchfeuchtet, aber nicht brachial durchfettet, wie bei anderen reichhaltigeren Reinigerlotionen für trockenere, "reife" Hauttyen, die einen schmierigen Film auf der Haut hinterlassen und bei mir immer sofort Pusteln verursachen. Ich verwende den Cleanser auch gerne solo abends nach dem Sport als Feuchtigkeitsspender, wenn es noch zu früh ist sich das volle Pflege-Nachtprogramm ins Gesicht zu zelebrieren. Make-up entferne ich allerdings immer vorher grob mit ölhaltigen Cleansern, sicher ist sicher. Meine Haut: ist normal bis trocken mit einer leicht fetteligen T-Zone, aber einem mega Zickenpotential, sobald gewisse Duftstoffe, brachiale Alkoholverbindungen, schlechte Ernährung, wenig frische Luft, die Hormone und der Weltschmerz ins Spiel kommen.... Die Konsistenz dieses Hydrating-Cleansers ist eher farblos und gel-artig , was ich immer gerne mag. Es bildet sich ein sehr dezenter und feiner Schaum. Der Cleanser riecht nach fast nichts, geruchlos halt mit einem klitzekleinen Gemuffel nach Platikflasche im Abgang. Ergiebigkeit: Ich verwende den Gesichtreiniger immer morgens und abends und komme mit diesen 12 oz (ca 370 ml) mindestens 4 Monate aus. Der Preis ist etwa 2.5 mal so hoch wie in den USA, so isses eben. Aber die Investition lohnt sich. Ich habe dieses Produkt auf permanenter Kauf-Wiedervorlage und möchte dieses Produkt uneingeschränkt empfehlen.
