Bafang Gear Sensor for BBS01, BBS02, BBSHD Electric Bike - Speed Sensor

I installed this on a new bike I was converting with a BBS02. The bike is for my wife, and I didn't want her to have to worry about the drivetrain binding/stressing during shifting. This device works perfectly and cuts the motor instantly when you move the gear lever. It seems to stay cut out for exactly the right amount of time, and it's hardly noticeable. I won't say the installation was super easy. You have to remove the sheathing from the cable, cut it, run the cable through the sensor, and then the tricky part is getting the sheathing back on. The cable wants to unwind, and if a rogue strand doesn't find it's way back in to the sheathing, it is kind of a nightmare. After some persistence and a couple of stab injuries to my fingers, I managed to get it in. Maybe you'll be lucky and get it on the first try. Anyway, besides that, the sensor was really easy to mount to the bike, and the plug fit perfectly into one of the reserved sockets on the BBS02. I'm really happy with my decision to get this for my build.

It's fairly simple. Install this on your bafang mid drive via the waterproof connector. Make sure you match it correctly. Run your shifter cable through the other end. It senses when your shift cable moves, and briefly cuts your motor off, allowing your derailleur to safely shift before power returns. This will prevent rough shifting, greatly reducing your chance of jamming your gears, or breaking your chain. If your kit didn't have one of these already, you absolutely need one.

Purchased this sensor as part of an upgrade of a 2014 Bafang mid-drive system. The original BBS02 motor had started to skip and stick, so it was replaced with a new BBS02B drive unit. The new BBS02B has an input for this shift sensor, so I added it to the system. The sensor installs in the cable housing of the rear shift cable and momentarily shuts off power to the motor when sensing movement of the shift cable (either up or down). The attached cable plugs directly into the matching connector on the BBS02B. It works as advertised and smooths out shifting gears, reducing wear on the drive train. Not sure how well it will hold up over the long term, but for now it gets 5 stars for ease of install and function.

We converted two bike to electric using BAFANG mid drive motors. This sensor works great and gives a smooth transition. This is the 2nd one of these we purchased. We have been very happy with the BAFANG set up and with the results. We're both in our 70's and we love riding again!

I needed this for the mid motor installation on my mountain bike. Due to the original location of the rear derailed I had to modify the location of the sensor.

BAFANG 750W does the trick! Sure helps out on the steep grades. Works flawless as it should. Very happy with the product and installation was a breeze.

See photo for rewiring required on my Eunorau g20. This is only combination that would work on my bike. After the photo, I straightened out everything, soldered with a single shrink over each and a double waterproof shrink over the outer.

I recommend this for the Bafang mid drive motor because without it you can get some pretty hard gear shifting which might damage the gear train. This device makes shifts very seamless.

It wasn't the easiest to install (with my setup), but it makes a big difference if you have a deralier and actually shift gears. No more KLUNKS when I shift under load. Or you can forgo this and just stop peddling when you shift gears.
