We've used these in all of our showers and they work great and give a neater look than shelves that protrude.

I continue to use Kerdi solutions for waterproofing even if they continue to be pricey options. For niche, I can easily and quickly install combinations of adjacent horizontally or vertically with good alignment. You DO need to carefully cut tile around the fixed size to nicely fit, but IMHO it's a breeze to bypass manually constructing the niche. The rulings n the Kerdi surface really facilitate alignment challenges as well.
