These Two Parts Eliminated Noise From My Shower Faucet
I'm reviewing 2 parts: American Standard 023529-0070A cartridge and 051091-0070A Pressure Balance Unit. I own an American Standard Reliant+ Model 1495.xxx Shower faucet. My shower faucet was squealing anytime water was used anywhere in my house. It grew louder and louder. I also heard what sounded like loose water pipes from water hammer whenever water was turned off anywhere in the house. These 2 replacement parts eliminated both problems! No need to tear open a wall to secure loose pipes. Maybe there were no loose pipes. Maybe the pressure balance unit doubles as a water hammer arrestor. I really don't know but the problems are solved. The 023529-0070A part came with the hot limit stop already attached so I didn't need to use the old hot limit stop. I did NOT order a new 'disk with screws' (I call it a plate). I was able to use the previous one: 051207-0070A You will need to unscrew 3 screws to remove the cartridge and 3 more screws to remove the plate that separates the cartridge from the pressure balance unit. Save all screws and save the plate for reuse. To remove the old pressure balance unit I had to use a pair of channel locks and carefully and slowly worked it out of the valve by pulling and twisting. It was in tight. Think tooth extraction. FYI, I unscrewed and opened the old pressure balance unit to see what it looked like. The rubber diaphragm inside was rotten with little black specs. There was also small bits of calcium. I suspect the noise was coming from the pressure balance part and not the cartridge but I suggest replacing both. The original parts for this faucet lasted 23 years. The second set lasted 17 years. This is the third set of parts. NOTE: The parts for this faucet were modified by the manufacturer in June 1995. Prior to 1995 different part numbers were used.

Perfect fit
It replace my old 90’s valve that was leaking tru the rubber seals. I removed the old one and lightly sanded the brass before installing the new one and don't over tighten the screws.
