why is this so expensive

Its current $30 here on Amazon And same price every other place. Its metal not Plastic. Pay $6 for a plastic saucer that will bust if it get too cold, or pay $30 and have a decent saucer that is way slick

Is this sled a metal sled, that I can possibly strip the paint easily, and convert it into a captain America shield?

Absolutely! It’s a little bit of work to strip the original powder coat but once that is out of the way it is very easy.

Is the $177 price for 1 or 6? I see another amazon listing for these at the same price, and it's for 6.

It has to be for 6 of them. I would hope so anyway. I only paid approx. $30 per saucer

How thick is the steel?

I haven't measured the thickness but it is very durable. I have slid on it and I weigh almost 200 lbs. It is well made.
