Gets the job done
Used this to help identify cables in a network closet, and it works exactly as you'd expect! You do need to get somewhat close to the actual cable in order to hear the tone, so if you're searching for a cable in a wall and you need to find out where it is, this isn't the one for you. In that case, Harbor Freight has one that is more like a small broadcast antenna, helping you find wire locations without going over every cable. However, this works very well!

Great toner for the price!
I am a network engineer in his first year with a company and was told to buy a toner. I never realized how much I will need to be tracing wires on some sites I visit. A toner is a lifesaver when trying to trace the termination of an Ethernet cable from one floor to another.I didn't have the money for a professional grade toner (yet) so I looked for one that did as good a job as something more expensive. This toner is surprisingly good for the money. I've had no issue tracing cables with this thing. It's also good at testing the strength of the pairs within an Ethernet cable (haven't tested this with phone cables yet). The only negatives I have found is there is no light indicator to reveal how close you are to the cable you're looking for (a problem for messy server rooms with LOTS of cables going everywhere), and an odd electrical smell that comes from the device when using. This has been a great first toner but considering I am now a network engineer I will be spending money on a fluke toner. I would highly recommend this to DIYs or IT professionals who don't work around servers/switches as much as I do.

Reliably and inexpensively provides basic wiring verification.
This tool will allow you to easily find a particular cable among many using its toner function. Next it can verify that there is continuity of of all conductors from one end to the other, and which positions they are wired in one end to the other. It has an RJ45 & a RJ11 jack so you can do Ethernet or phone cable testing. Besides the toning and continuity testing, it has a mode to test for proper polarity on phone lines and jacks.I have only used this tool with Ethernet wiring thus far. It showed me a few boo-boos I made (out of about 40 IDCs I recently did). This allowed me to home right in on what I needed to correct so that things worked flawlessly the first time I actually hooked equipment up.This tool will not measure any kind of throughput rating and thus cannot certify anything for any given network specification, it just ensures pin continuity end to end. For DIYers, hobbyists, home use, etc., this is not a problem. Just use quality certified cabling, ensure your runs are conservatively under the maximum length, and keep the untwisting of pairs to a minimum and you'll be golden. If you are a professional installer or in any other situation where it is critical that all infrastructure meets or exceeds standards with no room for doubt at all, I suggest to just spend the several hundred dollars and buy professional grade tools and equipment which can test and certify everything.

Fantastic product
Great tracer. I've used a few others and this has been a super solid product and very accurate. Highly recommended. Lots of wire tracers struggle to identify cables in bunches but this one has been fantastic.

great product for finding where the network cable runs
I like this product because the ease of use and I used it to find where the network wire was connected in the wiring closet and to make sure that both ends were connected correctly

Does exactly what I needed it to do!
Bought this to trace ethernet cables in my structured wiring box. I used both the alligator clips and the ethernet jumper since some cables were terminated at the jack end. Did exactly what I needed it to do, just follow the directions and your good to go. Have not needed to use any of the other 3 functions yet, so can't comment on that, but the SCAN feature works perfectly for tracing low voltage cabling.
