One month update: After wearing the watch for a month since writing this review I wanted to update and say that the accuracy seems to have improved. I haven't needed to adjust the time again sonce the first time I had to set it back a minute. Really impressed with the accuracy. For what you pay for this watch. it is a serious bit of kit. Let's start with the bead blasted finish, simply stunning. I wasn't sure how it would present in real life, but I am not disappointed. Some people have criticized that the lug area is not blasted like the rest of the watch and if this was a "real" field watch then that would be a problem, but this is a daily wear watch and the fact that part of it is shiny gives it just a little bling that only catches the light every once in awhile and catches the eye just right. One of the biggest things people tend to dislike in other reviews is the stock strap. Most people seem to think it's crap and I initially thought I would want to change the strap out as well, but I tried wearing it for a little while before changing the strap and now I actually really like the original strap. Again, this is a low price daily wear watch. The stock nylon strap is actually really comfortable, really durable, looks good with the watch and looks like a NATO without adding the extra bulk. I want to let others know though that I intentionally ordered this from Moon_dog because he had the reputation for delivering the goods. The watch arrived in great shape and had the original Seiko warranty card, instructions & hang tag, but the box was not included. Instead I got an after market watch carrier thingy. I was a little disappointed about this, but the included watch carrier box suits my needs better than the original box would have anyway so I am not too upset. If I ever decide to sell the watch I might feel different about it, but I don't think I am going to sell this one. As a buyer though if you are buying from Moon-Dog and having the box is important to you then you should let him know ahead of time. Also as far as accuracy goes, at least on my watch it has been very good. I've been wearing it for 10 days and it has gained about a minute. I can live with that! I've attached pictures showing the "watch box" I received instead of the Seiko box.

I bought this watch a month ago. So far, I’m very pleased with the accuracy, and it’s soothing to watch the second hand NOT going “tick, tick, tick” like a quartz watch. I’ve had automatic watches before, but it’s been a long time. I’ve not had it in water yet, but with my lifestyle it WILL happen eventually. Great everyday watch. Only negative is the luminescent markings don’t seem to stay luminous for very long after dark. Update - nothing scientific or exact, but my watch has lost about 5 minutes (compared to my IPhone that I used to set the time about a month ago. Seems pretty decent for the price, as I was expecting to gain or lose about a minute per day. Maybe I’m being too generous, but I still really like this watch. 2nd update - after several more months, I’m still pretty satisfied. Very durable, attractive everyday watch. Has stopped twice after very sedentary days of binge watching TV and laying around in the house on some bad weather days. That’s not really any fault of the watch. Still loses around a minute or so per day. Not really unexpected for an automatic watch in this price range I guess, but also seems a little ironic that a much less expensive Timex quartz watch keeps almost perfect time. Overall, I’m happy with the watch, just wish it was more accurate. 3rd update - I still like this watch, but it really doesn’t like when I have sedentary days - it will stop during the night after a day spent lazing around the house. Accuracy seems to be getting worse - I have to reset the time about weekly and I set it to be a few minutes fast. The band is starting to show wear around the hole where I buckle it every morning. My $25 15 year old Timex keeps time almost exact, so if absolute accuracy is your concern - buy a cheap quartz Timex and save yourself some money and aggravation.

My watch was ordered on 5 March 2020 here on Amazon, shipped from and sold by Watchsavings, and it is just what the doctor (or at least just what I) ordered. It gives every appearance of being the higher-quality, Japanese-made, 23-jewel version of this watch that some others are selling for about three times what I paid, and it appears brand-spankin' new at that. Well...for the most part, at least. The watch itself appears to be in brand-spankin' new condition and came with protective plastic sheets on the glass caseback and the buckle; I haven't gone at it with a loupe or anything, but to the naked eye, the entire thing - watch, band, all of it - appears flawless. The band was flat and stiff, as a new fabric band should be, and needed just a little massaging to make it pliable and comfortable on my wrist. The only thing that gave me to raise one eyebrow a little is the fact that it came with a generic instruction sheet "for quartz and automatic watches" that makes no reference anywhere to either Seiko or any other watchmaker. But because the watch appears to be the real deal and new, I'm not concerning myself too much with the generic instruction sheet (should I be? : / I've only had the watch in my possession for about seven hours so I can't really speak to the long-term accuracy (automatic watches often have to run for some days or longer before they settle into their long-term accuracy pattern), but since it appears to have gained about one second in its first approximately seven hours of service, I'd say it's gaining about four seconds a day straight out of the box. It looks and feels fantastic on my wrist, IMO; it seems to me the perfect size and weight, and I think it's just a gorgeous piece of machinery. And for my part I have no reservations about the stock band; I think it looks lovely and feels very comfortable, so I'll probably just use it until I see some functionality-related reason to swap it out. Well, okay, maybe the buckle is a touch goofy-looking. But nobody's likely to be scrutinizing that, so I'm sure it doesn't matter. If any issues arise with the watch in any unreasonably short period of time, I'll come back and revise this review. But for the present I'm pleased with my purchase and can recommend buying this watch from Watchsavings. Enjoy! *Update*: My apologies for the imprecision, but I can tell you that I last set this watch about three weeks ago, and it's about two minutes fast now. That's not bad, is it? Two minutes in three weeks? Plus it's fast, which I regard as being better than its being slow. A slow watch can make you late for things, while a fast watch is more likely to make you early. More worms for you! :P Bottom line, I remain happy with my purchase.

This review has been updated, see below ********************** This little beauty arrived a week ago and so far it's kept great time. Seiko is built to last so I'm confident in making this review a bit early. I've owned a lot of watches, I have the sickness, and some of them are more than a little pricey. I've come to dislike busy faces, subdials and other superfluous nonsense. I want a watch to tell time, that is all, and I want to know it easily at a quick glance. If I have to hold it up to my nose and squint then the watch has failed. This is the most legible watch I've ever owned and I absolutely love it- I'm tempted to buy another one, just in case. Some day it will get a big scratch across that hardlex surface and I'm gonna be so bummed... *********************** Seventeen days. That's how long it took to get its first scratch. Big one, too. Over the next few weeks many more scratches developed some small, some not so small. I have sapphire crystal faced watches that have lasted several years with no scratches at all. Today was the final straw- the corner edge of the glass bumped into a hard surface and chipped. It is a really large and obvious chip, one that I can't pretend doesn't matter. This watch was the Japanese version. After three short months- into the garbage it goes. Shame. I really did love this silly watch. It looks great and was surprisingly accurate. Hey, Seiko- I'd have paid an extra $100 for a sapphire crystal face. My sad recommendation here: avoid. :(

I've been wearing the watch for a week. It seems to be well made; the crown functions without any slop in it. Keeps very good time. Looks sharp and well made. My first watch in the 70s was a Seiko, a graduation present, and I gave it hell for ten years until, including wearing it for five years on construction sites. I never took it off for ten years until it quit on me. I think the watch probably cost about $150 in the 70s. Now forty years later, this watch costs the same. I'm a little skeptical that it will hold up as long, but I no longer work on construction sites, and I have a number of watches, so I won't be wearing it nonstop. I'll leave an update after I've used it for a while. I like the looks of it and it if wears as good as it looks, I'll be satisfied. I thought I would replace the nylon strap band with a leather one, but the nylon is sturdy and looks good with a nicely tailored leather piece down the middle of the strap to accommodate the pin in the buckle, so I'm satisfied with the strap. It's the nicest looking nylon "pilot's strap" on a watch I've come across. The photo on Amazon does not show the quality of the strap at all, so I need to mention that the strap is a plus. Considering I would have spent 40 bucks or more on a strap, that's a bonus. Update: I should mention that the layout of the face of the watch is well done: it's easy to read the time, see the date. I have come across many watches that have a terrible face design, making it difficult to read the watch. It's hard to understand how some of these often expensive watches pass the test of ergonomic design. Honestly, it’s an automatic seiko for a steal. I adjusted my regulator to achieve about -2sec slow/day. Also your activity will speed up or slow it down a bit. For this price I already ordered a new band (the Kmasic sport band Large) and I love it. Soft and hidden and rubber so I can wear my watch thru all my day’s activities. Those nylon bands will smell after a while if you wear it daily. LumiBrite is very good. It picks up all light and I keep my room dim before bed and I can easily read the dial markers the entire night. The Hardlex I will say is the down side. Though it’s very shatter resistant (great for dive watches) it CAN BE SCRATCHED. I wear my watches thru a lot and I know what kind of bump it takes to scratch them but I lightly brushed against a handrail and it scratched the crystal which I did not expect. BUT a crystal press and new sapphire crystal are under $50 if you care. I will be doing a swap bc I’ve seen others really make this seiko pop with a sapphire domed crystal and heck, tools to service your own mechanical watches are inexpensive. And you get to learn more about that amazing piece of hardware on your wrist.... priceless. If you’re reading this, I too debated on an automatic for a good price that looked good in a suit or out for a hike. I can only recommend pulling the trigger and getting it. It’s a great watch with a well respected movement inside.

Note, Amazon placed my review for a 'K1' version of this watch I bought from a different seller here under this product listing. Now sure why that happened. Right after I submitted this review, I then had to go to the listing for the original one I purchased, and do the same review. (The seller I used was 'Discount Watch Store', and the price was $109.00. They had originally listed it as a 'J1' and now they have changed the description). I'll leave this review here just as a head's up to other potential buyers, if you really want to be sure you're going to get the Japan version, I'd recommend you double check with the supplier just to be sure. Shipping was quick, and product arrived in good shape. Shipping charges were very reasonable. Bonus in that Canada customs did not charge any taxes or duties. However, the description stated 'Japan'. The product I received was not the J1, I received the 'K1', which apparently means it is assembled in Malaysia. Typically, the Malaysian version seems to for about $20.00 less than the Japan version, and indeed even the price on this would be consistent with the Malaysian version. Although I probably would have taken it anyway, I believe the seller (Discount Watch Store) should have made an attempt to contact me and advise of the product switch and confirm I still wanted it. As for the product itself. I already own an SNK803. The color scheme of that one never really grew on me, and I didn't find the markings on the face to my liking in terms of quickly reading the time in dim light. I never did get accustomed to having the minutes as the prime numerals as opposed to the hour markings either. As I spend a lot of time in backcountry settings where I may not be able to change a dead battery for weeks, the advantage of automatic movement outweighs the less accurate time keeping. The ergonomics of this dial seems to address the problem of getting a quick time reference, as does the larger diameter. By comparison to the SNK, I feel like I've taken my office clock off the wall and strapped it to my wrist. And speaking of strapping to wrist, if you do order this watch, immediately order a new 22mm bracelet. I ordered a SS black band with a butterfly clasp for $23.00, and while waiting for it, I am using the OEM nylon bracelet which you might describe as 'adequate' for holding it on your wrist. After 24hrs of ownership time seems to be more or less accurate. I've been spoiled in terms of reading at night by my tritium watches (but they did not hold up mechanically), but these dials seemed to be readable in the middle of the night when I woke up. As others have commented, this appears to be a decent EDC watch that is something that addresses the need to tell time in a quick glance in broad daylight or low light conditions.

I bought this watch for work, I thought it was inexpensive enough that I would not mind trashing it on the job. I do masonry work for a landscaping company, so rugged or not, it would take a brutal beating. When it came and I tried it on, I knew immediately that I liked it too much to ever wear it to work. I love the simple military styling, and it just feels like a watch that is well made. For what it costs, I think it is remarkable. When you buy something, you should take a moment and make sure you know what you're buying. I saw another reviewer give it 1 star, because it stops running if you don't wear it for a couple of days. Lol. Yes, it is a self-winding, mechanical watch. Your movement powers it. No battery. Ok? If you wear it daily, it won't be an issue, and if you wear it infrequently, it no big hassle to set the time and date. If you wear it every OTHER day, you might want to buy a cheap watch winder. Mine seems to keep very good time, although I have not done any tests to see exactly how accurate it is. I was worried it would be huge, as this is the first watch I've purchased since gigantic watches became the fashion. Men's watches used to be a lot smaller on average than they are now. This is the biggest watch I've ever owned at 42mm. Still, it looks good on my wrist. I would not get anything bigger, though. Soooo... I guess I'll get a $20 Casio or Timex and trash THAT at work.

Very happy with this watch. I wasn't totally sure about the styling but went for it and couldn't be happier. Very readable face, nice lume, gains about ten seconds a day. The strap it comes with is comfortable but looks like nothing, have ordered a couple of NATOs to replace it with. Not sure if there is any difference between the Japanese model I got and the K1 but there was very little price difference.

Corona molto maneggevole, ricordate però che la corona serve solo a rimettere le lancette dell'orologio e non serve a caricare il movimento. Se provate a ruotarla a orologio fermo, non fa partire le lancette. Movimento automatico di qualità, tende ad accelerare di circa 5 secondi al giorno, il che comunque è sempre meglio che non se tira indietro, per il semplice fatto che tirando in avanti non perderete gli appuntamenti. Vi abituerete ogni tanto a rimetterlo, io lo faccio una volta a settimana. Se si prende l'abitudine non ci se ne accorge nemmeno. Anche qui, una precisazione su questo movimento: non ha il cosiddetto fermo macchina, cioè se estraete la corona per rimettere l'orologio le lancette continuano a camminare. Non è un grosso problema, basta saperlo, però i maniaci della precisione non potranno rimettere questo orologio al secondo spaccato. In compenso il movimento, come detto, è molto preciso e sarete ripagati da un orologio dal look senza tempo, sono andato di recente ad incontri di lavoro di alto livello e vi giuro che mi guardavano l'orologio. Il cinturino è in nylon canvas da 22 mm, bella la fibbia in acciaio, anch'essa satinata a effetto titanio, il cinturino in nylon di per sé è di buona qualità e assolutamente non cheap, la verità è che l'orologio è talmente bello che alla fine il cinturino viene sminuito dalla bellezza dell'orologio. Vi verrà voglia di cambiare il cinturino e di metterne uno di cuoio in stile aviatore, come ho fatto io. Il peso è di 82 grammi con il cinturino di fabbrica. Lo ricomprerei ad occhi chiusi. La spedizione proviene da UK quindi non è veloce come solitamente è il servizio di Amazon. *********** Aggiornamento luglio 2018 È diventato il mio orologio di tutti i giorni. Molti lo scambiano per un Hamilton Khaki. Ma io, con orgoglio, controbatto che si tratta di un Seiko. Perfettissimo. Si può dire? No, ok, però avete capito. Prendetelo. E non ve ne pentirete.

El reloj llegó en el plazo indicado, funciona bien y se ve muy chulo, sobre todo si le cambias la correa por una de piel. Pero lo que no te dicen es que al enviarlo desde japón, la garantia es solo valida allí. Así que ojo, vais a comprar un reloj sin garantia ninguna en Europa.

Seiko is an excellent brand, and I was very excited to see it on Amazon. My particular watch is about 8 seconds fast every day, which is perfectly acceptable in my eyes for a ~$200 automatic watch. The satin finish on the case remains looking like new much longer than my polished dress watches, and scratches seem to add to the character of this style of watch over time. The original pins for the straps did arrive slightly bent, although they were easy enough to replace for a couple dollars before they broke; most people change the original strap for something flashier when they buy this kind of watch anyway so it was no big deal. I would recommend this watch to anyone looking for either their first automatic, or an easy to read every day sports watch. For those unfamiliar with automatic watches, they may not be running when you first receive them. In this case, simply shake them a little and it should start running. Also, don't change the date unless the time is within several hours to midnight to avoid damaging the date changing gears. Cheers.
