The Power of Peace
Silent Night is a story about how peace can transform and heal. In the midst of terrible fighting between the Americans and Germans during World War II, an isolated cabin in a German forest, and its two inhabitants, becomes the stage for what is a gripping drama on Christmas Eve. From the moment it starts, there is something special about this movie. Linda Hamilton puts in a convincing and riviting performance as a German mother left alone with her son in her isolated cabin as they become embroiled in a confrontation between American and German soldiers, both sides out to destroy each other, in her very house. It's only because of the mother's deep faith in the meaning of peace that the opposing forces are transformed. Although this is a movie set on the eve of Christmas and as such has an understandably religious undertone, its message of the power of peace trancends all faiths whether one is a believer or not and is a cathartic experience. The wonderful black and white filming serves to underscore the isolation of the cabin in the cold German winter and the acting is outstanding from all members of the cast. Linda Hamilton is so transformed in her role that you might not recognize her as the Linda Hamilton of the well-known Terminator movies. Whether you are a beleiver in Christian faith or not, this is a movie for all people to experience. And if you are a believer you'll want to see this movie on Christmas Eve. Run out and get this movie, it's a movie you'll never forget.

A Spellbinding Film!
This superb movie makes wonderful viewing any time of the year, but is especially poignant at Christmas.Set in the Ardennes on Christmas Eve 1944, this film is based on a real event that happened when three American G.I.'s and three German Wehrmacht troops came together, sheltered in the cottage of Frau Vincken and her young son. Emotions of hate and suspicion are constantly in play as both sides try to forge a truce throughout the evening, while hoping that the love and brotherhood of the Christmas spirit may prevail. This makes for nail-biting suspense followed by periods of genuine, heartwarming camaraderie.Linda Hamilton as Frau Vincken is very believable as the loving but iron-willed woman who enforces the Christmas truce, as well as being a gracious host to all. The rest of the cast, although all unknowns, do a very fine job, including the two juveniles. Production values for this Hallmark production are very good, and the excellent screenplay is gripping to the very end.So if you are looking for something new to view at Christmas time, Silent Night is a wonderful option. It packs more heartfelt Christmas goodwill into its 86 minutes, than a baker's dozen of the predictable schmaltzy films regularly shoveled at viewers this time of year. Five stars and a tip of the hat to this fine production, for conveying the true meaning of Christmas!

BEAUTIFUL TOUCHING STORY
This is very beautiful story that touches hearts. I got it along with the "Into the White" DVD and amazingly enough they both share the same concept - two enemy army soldiers are forced into one and the same tight living conditions and what happens next...Linda Hamilton acting is remarkable!Movie is a definite MUST SEE! Another one that comes to mind is Joyeux Noel. That one is about the First World War not the second but also touches the issue of real humans behind the army uniforms. I highly recommend all the movies aforementioned for their deep humanitarian values.

The Best Christmas Movie Ever
Each year at Christmas time I use a Readers' Theater play with my sixth grade reading students called "The Night the War Stopped." The story is based on the true event of WWII that is also depicted in the movie, "Silent Night." When I learned from a student that this movie existed, I had to get it!While the story lines of the play and the movie are a bit different, the main events are not: On Christmas Eve in 1944, three American soldiers and three German soldiers spend the night in a little cottage in the woods in Germany-- their hostess being a feisty German mother who will not allow guns in her house on the holiest night of the year. It is wonderful and remarkable how everyone complies with her demands. As the movie unfolds, we come to see each soldier as a human being with a story of his own, and the enemy soldiers come to understand that truth as well. This movie has horror, suspense, tenderness, love, joy, and peace all wrapped up into one beautiful package. The acting was most convincing, and the movie is one my husband and I will watch every Christmas from now on. This is the best Christmas movie ever!

Silent Night - Linda Hamilton
I foresee this as always being one of my favorite Christmas movies. I love true stories and Linda Hamilton is excellent in her role as the German wife and mother who no longer agrees with Hitler's raceme. After loosing her older son and possibly her husband her dedication turns to saving her younger son from having to join the Reich so she takes him to the family hunting camp close to the war front while waiting for the war to end. Her Christmas Eve is spent playing referee to the American and German troops who she has invited to spend the night in the shelter of her home leaving all weapons hidden outside. A marvelous movie with intrigue and quite an unusual way of viewing WW I I and Christmas. I was quite upset that this movie was only aired on TV between 1 and 5 a.m. during the Christmas holiday when many wouldn't see it. I highly recommend you buy your own copy of Silent Night to share with family and friends during the holidays.
