Could use out of box, could also use finish work to come out nice.
Correct size came, shape fit picture and wood seemed quality for price. End of paddle blade has a piece of wood glued across the lamenate, but it is ascew and not seated properly. Varnish is thin and grain is still exposed in spots. Not warped or twisted. Has stood up to me swinging it around, hitting trees and using as a cruch, not to mention actually moves canoe when used as paddle. After unboxing, inspection and stress testing I sanded varnish and rough spots down. Filled in gap around askewed end piece with marine epoxy and sawdust. Applied new varnish, sanded, varnish, sanded and so forth till happy. For a cheap paddle all as expected.

Worked great for river conoeing!
The coating on these is very poor as others say, but they were the cheapest paddles I could find. I got the 5ft for canoeing down a river, and they held up well. I brought an extra because someone said they brake easy, but we were hard on them and they worked great!I sanded the handles and put some Rustoleum clear spray paint on. They were really nice until we cracked out the sunscreen, and the paint broke down. Better find something different to coat them with if you use sunscreen. Two different brands turned the clear coat into gell and made a black sticky mess that gave us blisters. Good times! I recommend these paddles!

Excellent Price
I was looking for reasonably priced paddles for our two canoes.Haven't bought a wooden paddle since the 80's.These are light weight and appear to be well made.Time will tell if they hold up like the vintage ones I've had for decades.I reviewed many of the complaints posted on Amazon..Mine paddles have no blemishes. The lacquer finish may have been applied by dipping. There is a build up at the bottom of the paddle where there appears to be an insert for strength and gluing. I can't fault that construction technique but suspect it will need to be well sealed. The finish is not glass smooth, but is smooth to the touch, covers the wood completely and shouldn't be an issue in use.I may give them a light sanding and over-coat with a marine varnish because I have all the materials, and hope to make them last. Additional finishing does not appear to be required before they are placed in service, but couldn't hurt.In short, I am pleased with the product.I hope they live up to their name sake .. my 30+ year old paddles are from the same company.I would buy again, but hope it will not be required for some time.EZ

Not as pictured
I ordered two paddles to use as wall decor, each with a different design. Both arrived and neither had the same design as the photo and they were both exactly alike. One had rough edges and some discoloration all over the paddle in front and back and was not smooth like rest with some distortion of the letters too. I returned both rather than exchange since I didn’t want to take the chance paddles with a different design would be sent again

Voids in the tip of the blade...
Both paddles that I ordered came with black filler/epoxy in the tip of the blades. A slot cut across the paddle tip, right down the middle of the blade, appears to have resin to fill the voids.. This was not illustrated or explained in the products description on Amazon, which seems somewhat intentional. I'm concerned that open voids in the tip will decrease the paddles integrity.

Bought two oars. One good, One Bad.
First the Good: Lightweight, sturdy, beautiful and inexpensive. The bad: I bought two, they arrived together but were of a very different quality. If both were good, this would be a five-star review, but one of the oars was under-finished. It was rough to the touch rather than smooth like the other one. Also, there were several flaws in the wood which would give splinters to anyone who would use it. When I went to return the item, I found that I’d have to ship it back at my own expense! No thanks! I sanded down and I'll varnish it myself.

Quality, stylish, but narrow, made in the USA
Nice, quality, stylish paddle so far. A little on the narrow side at just over 7 inches. Good for calm water, but you may struggle if you have to deal with any kind of current for very long. Found at True Value in town for $4 more. Made in the USA. I bought both a 4’ and a 4.5’ length paddle and probably should have just got two 4.5 footers and called it a day. My gf and I are both 5’ 10”.

Great Wood Paddles
These are great paddles. I did find the handles a bit rougher than expected but not terribly so a one minute brush with extra fine sand paper did the trick! They have a nice finish on them and appear to be very sturdy and capable of lasting for years. I only wish they had not put the bar code label on them as it was really really difficult to remove. If I ever need these again will purchase from this company. They arrived early in seperate boxes which afforded excellent protection.

Poor Quality.
These paddles looked nice in the add but, When they showed up at my door they look like crap, The clear coat finish is blotchy and the surface is rough, I had to sand them smooth and re clear coat them. Not a good value for the money.Should of just bought the ones at the store for $15.00 bucks more.

Good for the money
The paddle looked a little nicer in the pictures than what I received but overall for the money it is a decent deal. I gave it a light wet sand to smooth out the rough finish.

Ordinary
It was nothing special, especially since I had to wait 2 months to receive it. It certianly would not have been the one I would have picked off the shelf at Canadian Tire because of where the knots were in the wood, etc.It is okay, and will get the job done, but has nowhere near the wow factor that most Amaxon products have. There is no excuse for the 2 month waiting time BUT it was very nice to have it delivered right to my door.
