For large arms.
This works really well and is easy to use. The reading seems to be very accurate, close to what you would get when you go to the Dr's office. It is made for a person that has large arms and the cuff fits really well. My husband bought the large cuff in the past and it still didn't fit and give a good reading, but this one is great.

Accurate, Quick, and Simple
The LifeSource UA-789 Blood Pressure Monitor was purchased to replace an aging household monitor. However, I did use both just to compare the readings. Both had very similar readings and since my previous monitor was always well trusted I would consider the UA-789 to be accurate. A couple of household members also compared the readings before or after doctor checkups. Again, the UA-789 performed very well and had comparable readings to the doctor offices. This particular model is one of the few that come with an extra large cuff. The extra large cuff comes in handy, but since this particular monitor was going to be used by several people I also purchased the LifeSource UA-281 Blood Pressure Monitor Cuff, Large (14.2" - 17.7") . Interchanging the large and extra large cuff is quick and simple. No hassles at all. The unit is fairly quiet, although not the quietest on the market. It tends to be very quick, but there are times where it takes a little extra time to get a reading (this could be user error in the fitting of the cuff to the arm). The numbers on the screen are large and it also shows a graph (with a red, yellow, and green area) that indicates where the blood pressure is high or low. You have the option of using the included power cord or batteries with this unit. I tend to just use the power cord and it works like a charm. Overall, this was a great purchase and recommended to anyone. UPDATE 1/2/2010: Over a year later and the LifeSource UA-789 is still performing above and beyond. Readings have been very accurate compared to visits to the doctor office (a little time difference of course from the office to heading home and using the UA-789, but the readings are very close). The monitor still performs like it is new with fairly quiet operation. This was a very wise purchase and will remain in the household for much longer. Still a recommended purchase!

Worked really well
My doctor asked me to get a better blood pressure cuff to use. I did a computer search using AI to help find the right one. This was listed in the top 3. I have a larger arm and am disabled and elderly. This was perfect for me.It is easy to use, it doesn't get so tight that it hurts my arm and it easy to read the numbers. I checked the readings with four different reliable sources. All were the same readings. The price is a little high, but the product is worth the expense.

reliable pressure cuff and fairly accurate
I had to get this to fit my arm as a normal size is too small and gives an inaccurate result. Last thing anyone with high blood pressure needs is a machine reading high and if the cuff is too small thats what happens. I also took mine in to my doctor and had them compare it to the old analog pressure cuff and mine was very close. there will always be small variances in blood pressure even at the doctors so a few points is not an error. Mine was within 3 points or so. Very reliable..never had an issue in almost two years.

Accurate for the big arm people!
Just left a nurse visit checking my blood pressure and she compared the machines in office to my machine 3-4 times. She said its accurate and I should keep using it. I also have the extra large cuff. There is no other thing like it out there for the big arm people. Thanks A&D!

Don't purchase this...it causes severe bruising!
Purchased this for use on my 20 inch upper arm. Had my niece, who is a CNA put it on my arm (which wasn't easy; I'll explain below) and run it and it started tightening down and kept going till I was in pain and then started to release (thank goodness) but then started up again and kept going even tighter than before until my arm was completely numb and I was in extreme pain. We ripped it off and put it away and I thought it must just be me. I noticed later that day that I had severe bruising and a lot of pain at the site where the cuff was placed. Spoke with a medical professional a few days later who said that should NEVER happen. Asked questions to make sure we were applying it correctly and received confirmation that we were, so a couple of weeks later we decided to try it again and it immediately started doing the exact same thing. Once again, it kept tightening and loosening and I finally had to rip it off again. Result was the same...extreme bruising and pain. Called the medical professional who then tried it on a young, fit man in the office who has 21 inch biceps and he had the same experience. I had hoped that it was just a problem for me and someone might get some use out of it because it wasn't returnable and cost over $100, which isn't a small amount of money to someone on a fixed income. But I can't in good conscience subject anyone else to this machine. And the problem I mentioned putting on has to do with the length of the cuff. If you are not a tall person (or have shorter arms) the cuff will dig into your underarm and your elbow because the cuff is so long. While that wasn't a problem for the young man who tried it, it is something else to consider if you're looking at purchasing this item and you don't have really long arms.

Comes with an Extra LARGE BP Cuff and Easy to Use!
This is a review of the LifeSource Blood Pressure Monitor with AccuFit Extra Large Cuff . The LifeSource Blood Pressure Monitor is one of the few BP monitors on the market that comes with an Extra LARGE cuff. The accufit cuff is easy to place on the arm and easy to adjust for an accurate reading. There is a 2 inch yellow mark on the cuff that must be placed over the arrtery in order to get an accurate reading. Then with one touch of a button the LifeSource Blood Pressure Monitor starts to inflate the cuff to give you an accurate reading regarding your blood pressure. The monitor will store 60 total readings, 30 for the morning and 30 for the evening. When you turn on the machine it gives you your last reading for both your BP and Pulse. One of the problems in getting an accurate BP reading is making sure one uses the correct size BP cuff. If the BP cuff is too small -- your reading will be higher than your actual BP. Another issue is proper positioning while having your BP monitored. It is important that one sit in a chair with both feet flat on the floor and the arm the machine is monitoring must be at the same level as your heart. Rest your arm next to the machine on a hard flat surface. Do not move, clench your hand into a fist or talk while the monitor is taking a BP reading. Take your BP in a relatively quiet area where the machine will not pick up background noise resulting in an inaccurate reading. By following a few simple guidelines the LifeSource Blood Pressure Monitor with Accufit Extra Large Cuff will accurately and dependably monitor your blood pressure for years. A nice bonus is the AC adapter and a carrying case that comes standard with this monitor. This makes it easy to take your monitor on vacation or to the doctor's office on your next appointment. Be aware that most wrist BP cuffs tend not to be very accurate and are hard to place correctly for an accurate reading. When you purchase a blood pressure monitor be sure to take it with you to your doctor's office and compare readings. This will let you see how accurate your machine is compared to the doctor's manual BP monitor and also let the nurse/doctor see that you are properly fitted and using the machine correctly. If more than one person needs to be monitored in your home additional sized BP cuffs can be purchased for this machine and I have included the links for those items below. LifeSource UA-281 Blood Pressure Monitor Cuff, Large (14.2" - 17.7") LifeSource UA-280 Blood Pressure Monitor Cuff, Medium (9.4" - 14.2") Hypertension or high blood pressure is a life threatening condition that if left untreated can cause one to have a stroke. It is important to know the signs of a stroke. If you experience any of the following symptoms contact your doctor or call 911 immediately. The signs or symptoms of a Stroke include: numbness or weakness of face, arm or leg - especially on one side of the body. confusion, trouble speaking or understanding. trouble seeing in one or both eyes. trouble walking, feeling dizzy, and a loss of balance or coordination. a severe headache with no known cause. As always if you have any questions about your blood pressure or medical history please consult your physician.

Actually fits my arm
Couldn't find a blood pressure machine anywhere in Australia that would fit my upper arm properly. Glad I imported this one, because it showed my BP is actually not that bad and that a lot of the readings I had at the doctors were wrong due to the arm bands being way too small. Sigh. Proper sized arm bands should be standard at clinics but we are a long way from that.

Great for people with extra large arm circumference.
This fits an extra-large arm (my upper arm measured 23 inches). I also really liked the little yellow band that showed me where to place the cuff near my inner elbow joint, as it removed all guess work. Which is a big deal the first few times using the device. Other thing I am loving is that I have lost enough weight that I need to move down a size to the L Cuff and I am able to buy an A&D large cuff (instead of extra large I have now) that will connect to the main machine that does the inflating, measuring, and shows the results. So I only have to buy a new cuff, instead of an entire new machine. I also like that I can use batteries or have it plugged in (I mostly keep it plugged in, but use batteries when I'm travelling). Packs up nicely in the case and I like the carrying/hanging handle on the outside. Lots of little design features for the entire package make this a 5 star purchase in managing my blood pressure.
