Snark SN-5 Tuner for Guitar, Bass and Violin (Black)

I've been playing guitar for over 25 years and been through many different style of tuners. This is by far the best I've ever had. Not only is it accurate and easy to use, but it's so convenient! Simply clip it to the head of the guitar, press the only button on the unit and start tuning. Also, unlike other tuners I've used, this tuner does a great job of filtering/ignoring ambient noise in the room. I can actually tune my guitar while having a conversation, even with the TV on in the room!Pro's:- Vibrant , easy to read display- No need for cords, chargers even when used on electric guitars/bass.- Simple one button activation- Lightweight - I leave it on my classical guitar all the time, especially after restringing.- Auto Shutoff (also can manually shut it off, just press the one button a second time)- Works for Guitar and Bass (both acoustic and electric) and violin - Also works on my Ukulele!Con's:Wish I had this 20 years ago!Bottom Line:This is a no-brainer. Wow! This might be the Best Tuner I ever owned! And I have owned a lot of Tuners. The Problem is that their cheap chinese engineered alligator clamps break off... but, yes, I shouldn't blame the Chinese, for, after all, they are only driven by the American Capitalists who give their Design and Manufacturing Contract to the Absolutely LOWEST Bid. American Capitalists only want to buy the Cheapest Crap... well, that is what they get, and what we All end up getting. But, well, if We don't blame China, then maybe China should Blame Itself, for, after all, of all this Cheap Crap that breaks has "Made In China" stamped on it. How Good can that be for the China Brand. Maybe it has a little bit to do with China's recent Stock Market and Currency Collapse. I hope so. That sounds nasty, but I have simply been filling up too many trash cans with relatively new Broken Stuff "Made in China". It is annoying and I can't help but to wonder why the Chinese don't seem to Care. Even if the American Capitalists are mostly to Blame, well, the Chinese seem to be Willing Partners in the Rip Off Scam.Anyway, Somehow, this SNARK Tuner somehow dodged that Bullet. AND THE SNARK TUNER IS STILL PROBABLY THE MOST AFFORDABLE TUNER ON THE MARKET... without have been designed and manufactured to be intentionally CHEAP. The Alligator Jaws are large, short and Beefy, and the Spring not Stronger than the Plastic (most Tuners have Strong Springs and Weak Plastic.... they Break Themselves simply by Design).And, the Swivel Flexible Neck Design and Overall Appearance is ATTRACTIVE. It is a Tuner you can put on the head of your Bass or Guitar and not worry about it being discordantly Ugly. It even looks Kind of Cool.And... it SEEMS to even have a different and Better Electrical Engineering. MOST tuners CANNOT tune the Big Fat B String on a 5 String Bass, or, if they eventually can, it is because you have to pluck the string again and again so that the Tuner Circuit can Integrate a great many Samples so it can finally spit out a Reading. You know... Basses are NOT guitars. Strings are not free swinging Pendulums. To get a Bass String 'going' you have to pluck it... and Bass Strings are under Less Tension than Guitar Strings, and so that causes one to have to Cause More Spatial Displacement of the String in Plucking it... that is to Exert More Tension On the String... and THAT Sharpens the Note. Every Bass Players hears it..... the First Instant after Attack is ALWAYS sharper than the Sustain. So, what does a Bass Player Tune for? ... the Attack or the Sustain. Well, most of the time one is moving and playing so quickly from note to note... it is better to Tune for Attack. BUT to tune for attack, you need a Tuner with a Short Integration Time, and this SNARK has the shortest Integration time I have ever seen in a tuner. you can actually SEE the string, on Strike, go from Sharp and then flatten out. So you can chose to Tune on either Attack or Sustain,,, depending on the tempo and feeling of the song you are about to play.So, I LOVE my New Snark.... oh, if it Breaks... I'll be sure to let everyone know...

I was impressed with this little tuner. It’s the SN-5 which is set up for a standard 440 frequency low E tuning. It clips securely to the head of my guitar and the display pivots to face me so I can easily view the bright screen while tuning the guitar.There is a single button to turn the tuner on. Pick one of the strings and the display shows a meter that is color coded with a green point at the center. There are about a dozen red increments to the left and yellow to the right. It is very responsive and continues measuring the note during sustain. During tuning you can watch the indicator which fills up the dial. When it is centered on the green marker and it’s in tune, the note is clearly displayed in text which tells you if it’s flat or sharp. You can tell at a glance by how many increments are on the dial how in or out of tune you are. Red means it’s tuned low; yellow means it’s high.This tuner makes tuning a guitar very simple, takes the guesswork out of it and allows me to get my guitar in tune very quickly.I know there are a couple of other slightly more expensive models that allow you to set other frequencies and tune a wider variety of instruments. I am still a beginner and am just learning the guitar so this is all I need.What’s more, it has battery saving features. The screen dims after a while and the SN-5 shuts off if you leave it alone for a while. I’m amazed at how well it works and how affordable it is. I also like that you can just leave it on the guitar; it’s small and light weight and doesn’t draw attention to itself but is always there when you need it.I highly recommend it.

I like how quickly this little guy gets me tuned on any of my guitars. It's definitely accurate enough to use for playing and is very unobtrusive, easy to place and remove, and easy to see and use for the player. It's small enough that you might leave it on the headstock if you're playing at home or in studio. On stage, it would be a very convenient pocket tuner.So, why not 5 stars? While this model is generally more precise than the ones with broader indicators, it still will allow about 5 cents either way in the in-tune indication. I discovered this due to error stacking with two of my favorite guitars and the help of an ultra precise computerized tuner. Let me just say that I don't have the best musical 'ears' and 5 cents either way is fine by myself. I can however hear 10 cents sharp or flat.I thought that since this model had the finer graduations that it would be suitable for setting my intonation. It isn't. Apparently both guitar necks were made on the same jig and the first fret is about 5 cents sharp when the rest are spot on. OK, if you're precisely in tune and precisely intonated. Well, when I would tune with this Snark, sometimes the notes in position one would be sharp, and others down-neck would be overly pressure sensitive towards sharp. So, I tried to adjust my intonation, thinking I'm a wee bit sharp, and that was frustrating. After a while, out come the digital mikes and 0.1 cent resolution tuner and I find the source of my frustration is in the 5 cents either way 'in tune' tolerances on the Snark. We got it sorted out pretty quick after that.I still use this little guy several times a day as it's great for playing, just not for making critical precision adjustments to the instrument. For the small price, it is a great value and exactly what it seems, but understand it's limitations.

I HATE being out of tune. I also tend to get a little heavy-handed with my playing style, and do a lot of string bending, so it's not uncommon for me to have to tweak a "G" or "B" string after a few minutes of aggressive playing. So I have no idea why I didn't put much thought into finding a convenient, efficient, and affordable tuning option for my guitars. Seriously, I own dozens of effects pedals (including two pedal tuners), but what about all of those other times when I'm not using a full pedalboard?Problem solved for less than $10: Enter the Snark SN-5. This thing is crazy fast and accurate. I guess I did not fully realize (or appreciate) that clip on tuners work by contact vibration, not ambient sound (like the way the free tuner on you iPhone might). So you can tune an unplugged electric guitar before you even turn on your amp and hear those awful resonating detuned chords!I think my favorite aspect of this tuner, however, is the speed and stability of the reading. That's a major problem with most audio-based tuners, as they tend to flutter all over the place. The SN-5 identifies and holds a reading for the note you are playing, and responds smoothly as you tighten or loosen the string. It's quicker, more effective, and more affordable than most of the alternatives. When I ordered mine, I wondered why I didn't already have one. Now, I'm wondering why I don't have one for every room I play guitar in!

This is by far my favorite tuner out there, and the best part is, it's super cheap. You don't have to worry about surrounding noise affecting the reading on the tuner - you just clip it to the head of the guitar and it will read the vibrations of the guitar. Perfect for loud areas! I'm constantly switching from standard to different open tunings, so having this tuner clipped to the head of my guitar has become my new best friend.The screen is super easy to read and bright enough that you'll be able to read it from any distance (in case you like to hang your guitar low). The neck of the tuner rotates nicely so you can adjust it depending on where you place it on your guitar.I even like this tuner better than a lot of built-in tuners for Acoustic and Acoustic-Electric guitars. A lot of the times, you'll find an acoustic guitar with a built-in tuner, but the interface is very cheaply made. I would much rather have this Snark tuner at my disposal than any built-in tuner.***Pros :)-Clip on, reads vibrations. Loud, outside noises aren't a problem while you're tuning your guitar-Bright screen, easy to follow-If you like to switch between different tunings, this is your best friend.-Very inexpensive!***Cons :(-If someone has any cons, let me know...I haven't found any. I pretty much leave this tuner on my guitar the majority of the time.

A friend of mine had one of these Snark tuners and he was really impressed with it and said that it worked really well. So, I decided to get one myself for my guitar. I've had it a few weeks now. It works great and is very easy to use. I really like that it works from vibration and automatically selects the note you are tuning.I read the reviews about it having a flimsy plastic neck and the reports that the clasps that hold it in place break easily. I could see how this might happen. Mine showed up new in the box, nothing broken. I've twisted the tuner head around in all various directions while using it and no problems at all. Like most plastic things, I'd suspect that pushing somewhat hard beyond it's movement range would break the plastic clasps. I took a close look at it when I took it out of the box, moved it slowly at first to make sure I understood how it is suppose to move.The best part is the price. I couldn't believe this thing was only around $13.I'm just a casual guitar player, so it seems to tune spot on to me. If you're thinking of getting one then I say definitely go for it.

I have purchased several Snark tuners, including the black SN-5 for tuning an electric bass guitar and a dobro. The SN-5 is a decent tuner, it's not as fast to register as the Intelli IMT-500, but it's very accurate. Another plus is the easy to read display. My main problem with the entire Snark product line is the reliability of the swivel joint that couples the arm to the clip and the display. Almost all of my Snark tuners, SN-1 (blue), SN-2 (red), and the SN-5 (black) have broken within the first few months of ownership. Out of 4 purchases, I've got one SN-5 that is still alive. They all break at the same location, the 3 prong clip that grabs the ball on the armature. One of those tabs will eventually break. I've had them break during the first week or last a couple of months. I'm still searching for a great clip on tuner that will work well with both acoustic guitars and electric bass. While the Intel IMT-500 has a great clip, it doesn't register well on the low E string of my Martin guitars or at all with my Fender Jazz bass. It also does a lot of hunting when trying to tune banjo. The Snark SN-5 registers well on bass and dobro, but it's too fragile to be reliable for gigging. Attached is a photo of my last SN-1 that broke. The SN-1,2, & 5 share a common mechanical design with differing color and electronics.

C'est un excellent produit. Dans ma vie de guitariste j'ai testé des dizaines d'accordeurs en tout genres mais la plupart pour ne pas dire tous réagissent au son; Celui ci réagit aux vibrations du manche et ça change tout, l'accord peut être fait dans un environnement bruyant, une scène par exemple. C'est extrêmement précis; Il en existe plusieurs de ce type mais ce modèle est petit très visuel malgré tout et, in fine, tip top. Le prix est correct.

Questo accordatore è davvero ottimo, molto preciso nell'accordatura dello strumento. I punti di forza, oltre alla precisione, sono il display molto colorato e luminoso, visibile in qualsiasi condizione di luce, e la possibilità di orientarlo in qualsiasi direzione una volta attaccato sullo strumento. L'accordatore funziona attraverso la vibrazione prodotta dallo strumento (non esistono zone morte di accordatura), non è provvisto di microfono. La cosa più bella è il fatto di essere cromatico, la cosa è molto utile riesce ad individuare ogni nota con la massima velocità e precisione. Lo uso su chitarra classica e acustica e mi trovo benissimo. Sono molto soddisfatto dell'acquisto di questo prodotto, soprattutto della qualità/prezzo indiscussa. Lo consiglio vivamente.

Für den Hausgebrauch und für Hobbygitarristen bestens geeignet - solange man es für Akustikgitarren benutzt.Das Gerät erkennt stets die gespielte Saite und stimmt ziemlich genau. Die Anzeige macht einen sehr guten weil hochwertigen und präzisen Eindruck. Anklemmen - anschalten - los geht's. Die Gitarre ist dank des guten Feedbacks der Anzeige schnell gestimmt.Beachten sollte man jedoch, dass sich derartige Stimmgeräte grundsätzlich nur für Akustikgitarren wirklich gut eignen. Bei E-Gitarren wird es wegen dem fehlenden Klangkörper schwierig für Clip-On-Geräte, die Schwingungen zu erfassen. Da sollte man lieber zu Stimmgeräten mit Mikrofon oder Audioinput greifen.Für alle Akustikgitarristen gibt's aber eine klare Kaufempfehlung.
