Charles Faudree Home

The best of all!
Drop dead gorgeous! My mind simply cannot get around the fact that Charles continues to create the loveliest rooms in America (and a few abroad) and makes it seem effortless. He willingly admits that his last book "Details" was to be his last, but all the beautiful rooms he has created since that book was published deserved to be seen. Amen to that!I really enjoyed the variety of houses and locales represented...many in the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina as well as those in Oklahoma and the Southwest. The casual approach to the vacation homes is juxtaposed with the formal city houses, but both are spot on in decoration, appointments and French style. Each section is introduced by a friend, fellow designer or client, many of whom are well-known names in the design industry. And once again, the descriptive captions are entertaining and informative.Pets still figure prominently in the photos of the rooms; even the cover of the book features a photo of Charles' beloved Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Nicholas, who passed away late last year. Including the canine family members in the photos has become a Faudree trademark, and I enjoy the homey touch they add to each fabulous view.Simply the best decorating book I've seen since "Details." You will not be disappointed.

Charles raises the bar on excellence!
If you are a lover of home dec books, this is one you will want to buy. I have a very extensive home dec library, and Charles Faudree's books are among my favorites. This time he has taken excellence to a new level, and has prompted me to write my first review. Charles Faudree Home shows exceptionally beautiful examples of transistional style. This is a book for today! Take a look at the entryway on page 24. He has mixed chink and rough hewn log walls with Louis XV, Louis XVI and Directoire chairs. Then he added a Lucite table and an Oushak rug. As a final touch, he framed antique French wallpaper as artwork. Such exciting creativity makes Mr.Faudree a genius of "the mix." This is one I'll reach for time and time again. Thank you Charles. Please keep them coming.

Thank Goodness For Old School Designers!
Charles Faudree is at the top of my list of designers. This book certainly shows why. He not only completely understands how to put soul into a room, he understands design as a living thing. Unlike most designers - he doesn't just merchandise a room, then walk away and say they're done! He understands color and multiple layering and...he knows how to achieve it. (Again, he doesn't have a fear of color and has an expert understanding of how to layer. Too many designers of today stop short of a complete look and then are praised for doing a look that everyone else is also doing). He belongs to the old school of design (with few members) where a designer actually designs, and can achieve any look the client wants or is able to achieve dreams the client didn't even know they had.

Too Much Faudree? Au Contraire!
I've collected every magazine article on Charles Faudree over 20 years from Traditional Homes and Southern Accents, plus each book that he's written. Based on some previous reviewers, I wasn't sure this book would be different from the others and it might repeat content. To my delight that is not so. The format is very large so it allows you to really see the accessories and patterns on the fabrics. Each section is prefaced by another designer. You could easily overdose on this book - it is chock full, no, it's entirely full of photos. I became absorbed and enveloped in Charles Faudree's decorating style.Page after page of rooms, vignettes, tablescapes, wall arrangements, upholstery and furniture arrangements. Quite a reference book.Beautifully done. Beautiful printing. You can practically bite into this book.

Beautifully written book
This is a beautifully written book; rich with colors and dogs that make you want to sit with a cup of hot cocoa and blanket while lingering in the pages of this beautifully designed book. All of the rooms are decorated with treasures that must have taken years to acquire. The descriptions help me with my wish list for future purchases should I be lucky enough to find them. The toile used in the rooms inspired me to redesign our master bed and bath rooms. I own 3 Faudree books and this one is by far my favorite. I don't think this book is pricey at all. The quality and design is worth much more than the list price. I highly recommend this book.

Lovely, But Impractical
This is a very beautiful book. Well written with many beautiful pictures. However, for me, it was not practical. There is no way I am able to afford the furniture displayed, or the lovely accents. I am decorating my home in Farmhouse/Cottage with a touch of French, and most of the items pictured are beyond my means. The homes displayed were homes of very wealthy people, and very unrealistic for the majority of us. I really didn't get any ideas or help from the book, because everything was so extravagant. Unless you have an unlimited income, this book is not for the average American citizen.
