STANLEY XTHT0-33501 FATMAX Autolock Tape, 8m Metric Only, Yellow/Black

I purchased this tape measure to use with a set of plans that were drawn with metric dimensions. Other than a slight slipping of the lock mechanism it is very accurate and easy to read.

Greate measure tape!

This is a very high quality metric tape measure. My only complaint is that the lock does not a ways stop the tape from retracting.

Only dislike is I wish you could lock it in place but I knew that when buying

I concur with what several other reviewers have said. The re-wind mechanism is not very good - anything past a couple of meters & it just doesn't work. The lock mechanism is weak. It kinda works sometimes. I don't know what you call it but the marking that shows the depth of the tape itself used for measuring into corners being in inches when this is a metric tape is just not helpful at all - it shows me a lack of caring about producing a quality product. The little add-on end things are totally useless. They don't stow away the way that it shows - they fall out almost immediately & even when installed on the tape, they fall off very easily. Huge fail there. I bought a shorter & much cheaper tape at the same time & I find myself using it much more than this one. Is it a really bad product - no, not really. Is it a really good product - no, not at all. Is it worth what they want for it - no, not at all. Would I buy it again - no, I would not. Overall - I'm kinda disappointed with it.

This tape is a failure - impossible to take an accurate inside measure. The tape is marked in metric but the case is marked imperial... I went to take an inside measurement of a window and looked at the case to add the case's length and what do you know? I had to add "3-inches" to 165 cm! Skip purchasing this model unless you want to practice linear conversions.

Meterstäbe sind gewöhnlich so biegsam, das es schwerfällt, damit auf der Leiter stehend etwas zu messen. Man sollte meinen, das Maßbänder noch eher zusammenknicken als Meterstäbe. Aber nicht dieses 32mm breite, gut ablesbare Teil. Das kann ich locker drei Meter ausziehen und vorsichtig ausstrecken. (Zur besseren Genauigkeit mit der zweiten Hand etwas abstützen. Es wölbt dann kaum durch.) Mit 8m ist im Wohnbereich fast alles abgedeckt. Man muss nicht mehr Meterstäbe aneinander legen. Allerdings ist das Maßband auch ziemlich groß. Jeder muss sich genau überlegen, ob er 5m, 8m oder 10m kauft. bei noch größeren Entfernungen ist dann eh ein Laser besser.

After a few months of using this most days I have to say it’s a nice looking & robust product & the tape itself is very good, but!! The return is REALLY weak & the lock does NOT lock the tape! You have to help the return & the on the lock the tape creeps back in. It doesn’t stay out. This thing has one job & it fails miserably! I’ve tossed my one in the trash & will be looking for something better.

As a professional have had several tape measures and find this Fatmax to be the best. On my second one now. The first lasted about 18 months of daily use. It's still works but is quite tatty and worn so only get used in wet / dirty conditions to preserve the new one. Positives: quility build, great standout length, autolock feature, comfortable to use, easy to read, strong magnet. Negatives: autolock creeps at longer extensions. Belt clip is awkward to use. At this price point would be nice to have dual scale. I.e measurements on both sides of the tape, but it doesn't.

Works quite well, but when the brake is applied, it is still very easy to move the scale.
