Survival Handbook: An Essential Companion to the Great Outdoors

It has a bunch of camping tips and ideas. It's written simple enough for my 8 yo son. It's a solid purchase for a kid who is interested in camping

My 9yo desperately wanted this before a camping trip. Not only did it occupy him during quiet times but he’s been employing the lessons & talking it up quite a bit. The cool parts are the functional parts, reflector, string, cup all built into the book.

This is an excellent book that covers practically all the basics that a person should consider in survival situations or during a field trip. It is essentially focused on North America however some tips may be of application to other latitudes. For the content I would give it five stars however the quality of the print is not good and there are sections very difficult to read due to the colors used for the printing. In each chapter the authors highlight various important notes or special warnings, however many of these notes are presented with black text on dark backgrounds that even under sufficient light are very difficult to read which is even less helpful under pressure situations in which the reader requires ease of reading. In this regard, for future editions I suggest that text on dark background shall be printed using a light color such as yellow or white so that it makes a contrast with and facilitates reading. For the rest, I highly recommend this book for those new to outdoor adventures. The book presents many extremely useful tips such as the location of the cardinal points at night by means of the position of a star in relation to the rotation of the earth (very useful !!!).

I did not read this book but my son did and loves it. I saw first hand how handy the book was. My son had a small minor burn on his finger from touching something hot. I told him what he should do but he "didn't" believe or should I say listen to me. He went straight to this book and looked up how to treat burns and happily it was written in there, exactly what I told him he should do. The book is a big win for me just for that haha.

This book is easy to read, it has images to help understand and engage beginners. It also contains survival tips and the book itself can be used in an emergency situation.

This book has kept my son entertained for days! He refers back as needed to “prove” things to people.

Using this for our boys group at church... Just what we were looking for. We wanted something to teach them ab the outdoors and survival. This fills the bill pretty well for the basics.
