Great Coverage and Easy to Use
This was my first time using gouache paint, and I was really impressed. The colors are thick, vibrant, and provided great coverage. I used them on Jovi air-dry clay and most areas only needed 1-2 coats. The paint also thins easily with water when I wanted a lighter effect. The cups are easy to open, cleanup was simple (just soap and water) and the paint washed right off my brushes and hands. The white paint had separated a little, but it mixed back together easily. They tray is cute too and has a space for brushes. Overall, I'd recommend!

Good for learning
Really pleased with these for the price. The case is nice quality and so far seems to keep the paints moist (I've been using them daily for about two weeks now, but careful to seal it back up after each use). The paints are highly pigmented and you get quite a bit of each. There was some slight separation in the whites, but stirring them fixed it and they perform like the other colors. For a student or hobbyist these are a good value that will give you lots of scope to work with gouache without having to be precious about expensive materials. Despite using them daily as I mentioned, I've barely made a dent in any of the pots.

Fantastic paints, but no instruction.
Ive never used gouache paint so I have no reference to judge, but this stuff is fantastic. I did my first ever gouache painting with this set. Its not finished yet but it looks so good. I read that gouache was prized for its opacity, but I am truly amazed at how saturated and vibrant the colors really are. The set includes 18 colors, 3 brushes, a mixing pallet, a color swatch card for reference, and an airtight storage container. Everything seems to be of good quality, the case is very durable, seals well, and has a slot for each color tray so they dont get shuffled around. I left mine in the containers but they could also be emptied into the slots, I've heard that some people like to dry them out. The mixing tray is hard plastic. The wells aren't very deep, but it's spacious and fits neatly in the case. The brushes are also nice. They are a little bit stiff which is perfect for these paints as they're slightly heavy. The paints themselves are very thick and creamy. I did notice some separation on a few colors but after stirring they were great, and the open trays make them easy to stir up. There were no instructions or tips for use, which was very frustrating for me as a beginner. I've worked a lot with watercolors and acrylics but gouache is very different. I dont want to say it's hard to use because once you figure it out, its very easy to work with, but it does take some practice. Its too thick to glide smoothly on its own, so you will need to mix it with some water, but finding the right ratio can be tricky. Too much water, and it becomes transparent, bleeds into the layers below it, or doesn't show up, and too little water will cause it to smear, streak, or lift off the paper. Unlike acrylics, this paint can be reactivated with water after it dries, which is great for fixing mistakes or making changes, but requires a very light hand when layering colors or blending them together. Its ability to rehydrate also makes it super easy to clean from brushes, and completely eliminates waste. There's a good quantity of paint in each tray and because of their amazing opacity and the fact that they're thinned with water, a little bit really goes a long way. So, they're definitely worth the price. I feel like the little tubs should have lids but the paints seem to stay pretty moist in the case. The set includes all the basics colors, and they mix really well to make other colors or different shades. It came with 2 whites. Im not sure of the difference exactly. I dont use a lot of white on its own in my paintings, but I often mix it in small portions to gradient colors, so Im glad for the extra tub. I cant wait to do more with these, I love them.

Excellent buy for beginner painters on a budget!
I really enjoy working with these. I have experience with other water based mediums but this was my first excursion into gouache. I am an absolute beginner using dollar store quality brushes but I was able to get some nice results using these! Pros: -very cute! Somewhat portable and could probably be packed into a bag and taken for plein air work, but I really enjoy just using it on my deck. -build quality is excellent--no flashing, mold issues or other problems that cheap plastic things might have. I really like the feel of this thing, it feels sturdy. -you get a lot of paint for your money. There is a heft to it, and you won't find other paints for this cheap that are this quality. Lots of color options too. -the paint itself is wonderful, creamy, smooth. It works beautifully as a thin wash or applied undiluted from the container. If you are used to watercolor or acrylic, you'll find familiarity and be able to grow with the paint. -cleanup (more on that below) is easy, as everything is water soluble. It will stain fabrics and porous surfaces but that I don't mind. I just rinse my water cup, pallette and brushes in cool water and it's fine. -pigmentation is excellent, and I like the way that they feel on my watercolor paper. Cons: -the paints themselves are in jelly containers kind of like you find dipping sauce in at fast food restaurants. They're all open to one another and so inevitably there will be mixing, which I am not thrilled about. Because of this I've been hesitant to open the paints that I don't think I'll use, because opening any of them is a very messy ordeal. I had to constantly wipe my hands just to open a few of them and I still had some paints taint others. I'm docking a star for this, because it hinders my enjoyment of the product. -I'm not 100 percent sure here, but I suspect these may not be the longest lasting in terms of my art lasting reasonably long. I don't expect archival quality, but I don't want these to fade within a year and I'm not finding any evidence to quell my worries. I highly recommend these as a basic, easy little thing to fiddle with and learn on. I see these helping anyone who is interested in watercolor or acrylic painting, and I love the design and quality. Honestly if you're thinking about getting these, just go for it. I'm really glad I did.

Great value
I heard that this paint had some chemically smell but I didn't notice any smell, I usually work with oil paint though so any paint without toxic fumes are awesome lol. But the color selection is great the pigment is ok and made so much better with some better quality primaries to add to mixes on a wet palate.

Great Value and Great Paints
I'll start with, I purchased this in June 2021 and then kept it sealed in my drawer until last week (July 2025) when I finally came around to using it. To my great surprise, all the colors were still jelly and juicy and all the colors looked like they were new. I'm not super familiar with gouache which is why I bought this set. I wanted a set with a bunch of colors that I could use and test to see if I liked gouache. The Himi paints have been great so far, easy to use and store. I love the open box nature of it, it makes it a lot easier to access and scoop out paint. I've generally been generously misting my paints to keep them "wet" and it's been two weeks and nothing seems to be drying out so far. I would definitely recommend these for anyone who wants to paint with gouache.

absolutely love these paints c
i first saw these paints in a youtube recommended video and i loved how cute it looked! at the time, around the time i first saw that video, there were only mint green and pink boxes on amazon - but i saw other images of these paints having the color yellow, which i really wanted since it's my favorite color. later one i checked amazon again and found these paint in the yellow box! and so i got it and let me tell you - it's a loT bigger than you'd expect. i was pretty surprised at how big it really was when i took it out of the packaging. i thought opening the little jelly-cup-containers might've been a messy process but it didn't turn out to be quite as messy as i thought it'd be. i made swatches of all the paints later and labeled them (i spelt the "burnt" wrong in burnt umber but shhhh) i wanted to bring this paints outside with me to places, however it is a bit heavy, but i didn't really mind. i also thought that maybe letting the paints dry a bit might be more helpful so that it wouldnt move around in the containers and get onto the lid, so i actually tried to purposely let it dry for like two days and the result? it cracked a bit on the surface but they're still wet??? well i changed my mind on having the paints dried later so it didn't really matter to me - if you guys are worried about the paints drying well uh, unless you leave it open with the lid lightly placed onto the box for like 3+ days, i don't think it'd be a really big problem that the paints will dry out. it seems really difficult for the paints to dry out completely - the surface might get a lil dry and cracked but that's seriously about it. also i added the picture of the palette after i used it the first few times because i noticed that it stained a bit - i dont really care about that but it might be helpful to others to know that the palette will get stained lmao idk but overall, as a beginner who never really used gouache before, i thoroughly enjoyed these paints and recommend it to anyone who wants to get a new, cute paint set for fun C

Honestly a steal- a bit messy
I really love these paints! They're real nice quality and theres so much paint within each container that they'll probably last you a long while. I just got mine the other day so i cant say how they hold up long term, but as of right now they're great for a beginner like me. Just be careful not to get paint all over your hands (as a messy artist, this is a big problem for me lmao) The box is a really nice quality plastic, the lid clips on tightly and (so far) I haven't had too many problems with it. The box initially didn't come with anything wrapped around it, but it seemed to be in good condition. The only problems really were some stains around it and a really obnoxious barcode sticker. The stains were easy to get out, but the sticker is a bit harder to get off, but its really the only annoyance I have with the product. I'm not sure if this is a problem other people are having, but theres a mixing palette inside of the lid of the box that's detachable, mine kept popping out whenever i wanted to open the box, but I just added some kneaded eraser to stick the palette to the lid, and it seemed to work fine
