An action-packed, saucy food comedy featuring one boyโs determination to be top chef! Soma Yukihiraโs old man runs a small family restaurant in the less savory end of town. Aiming to one day surpass his fatherโs culinary prowess, Soma hones his skills day in and day out until one day, out of the blue, his father decides to enroll Soma in a classy culinary school! Can Soma really cut it in a place that prides itself on a 10 percent graduation rate? And can he convince the beautiful, domineering heiress of the school that he belongs there at all?! Let the shokugeki begin! Soma has challenged Totsuki graduate Chef Shinomiya in order to prevent Megumiโs pending expulsion. However, thanks to a condition levied by Gin Dojima, the match turns in an unexpected direction! With such a foolhardy challenge, can Soma and Megumi win to survive another day? Review: Sticker - The book itself is good itโs just a fact that there is a sticker that was placed on the back of my volume and when I tried to remove it it just kept ripping and now thereโs just pieces of the sticker on the back of the book Review: It's Megumi's time to shine! - This was another excellent volume and it's full of useful recipe the culinary curious can try in their home kitchens. I came for the story, and I was not disappointed. Megumi acomes into her own in this volume, putting her arc on the path where she can stand alongside the other main characters on her cooking and character development.

Talk about cliffhangers
I know the outcome from the anime but it builds suspense and once again the recipes are awesome for anyone wanting to cook these dishes

Food competition surprisingly involving
Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma Volume 4 tells us the resolution to the danger nice country girl Megumi faced in the third volume. Bad boy protagonist Soma has challenged the judge/instructor who threatened to expel her to a cook-off. For some reason, the former graduate judge is stubbornly refusing to reward creativity or initiative until overruled by his boss and forced to participate in the contest. That raises the stakes, since if Soma canโt rescue Megumi, heโll also be out of the prestigious school. Making everything about head-to-head competition certainly ratchets up the drama. The boss has one good observation, though. He wonโt let Soma be the one determining Megumiโs fate โ since that would just mean sheโd wash out later if she wasnโt able to succeed on her own skills. Although she would never have spoken up in the face of authority, now that sheโs in this situation, she has to demonstrate her own value. The competitions are the most attractive scenes to me. Theyโre where the drama comes down to the basic question of โwho winsโ, plus, they are the sections most focused on actual food. I learn things about various cuisines and how to prepare and combine ingredients, and the taste descriptions are ridiculously over the top. There are even recipes included! I was pleasantly surprised by how the volume later provides an explanation for the judgeโs arrogance. Heโs a cautionary tale of placing the drive for success over everything else (even when stubbornness is necessary in the face of prejudice). In contrast, Soma and Megumiโs relationship (as well as their other friends) will, weโre led to assume, prevent Soma from making the same mistake. This volume also sets up the next challenge, one where everyone individually competes to make a new egg dish for a fancy hotel breakfastโฆ after staying up all night! Typically, weโll find out the results in the next book. Thankfully, the only significant fan service this time is on the cover. Iโm not sure why the need to advertise something that isnโt even reflective of the contents, but I suppose some people will buy the book for that reason. Regardless, I keep coming back for the food and the face-offs. (The publisher provided a review copy.)

Terrific volume
"Food Wars!" continues to be entertaining and addictive to read with vol. 4. You'll also get an appreciation for chefs who work hard to make meals delicious for their patrons. Highly recommended.

Shinomiya is the best guy.
I bought this volume because I just love Shinomiya and the arc itself. And of course, I want to keep supporting the author.
