We originally purchased this book because the story of Momotaro, the Peach Boy, is one of our family’s favorite stories. We love how Momotaro shares his delicious dumplings and makes faithful friends along his journey. The themes of companionship and bravery are appealing to everyone! Interestingly, the tale of Momotaro originated in the city of Okayama, where there are statues, a museum, and a festival dedicated to the heroic characters. They even sell whimsical, peach-shaped souvenirs. We were delighted that this book includes not only Momotaro’s tale, but several other classic stories. The illustrations are colorful and have an old world charm. The stories are fun to read aloud. The hardcover features the Japanese hiragana script, which is a wonderful learning resource for anyone starting to study Japanese. Would highly recommend this delightful book for educators and everyone interested in learning about Japanese culture and storytelling traditions. We plan to give a copy as a gift to a family member on her first birthday.

i take care of my daughter and a little boy, both two years old, and i am teaching them about other cultures (one a month) for... well, forever. right now part of their education is traditional stories from each we study. this book is PERFECT for that!!! this is exactly what you expect from the description. it includes the stories peach boy, the magic teakettle, monkey-dance and sparrow-dance, the long nosed goblins, the rabit in the moon, the toungue-cut sparrow, silly saburo, the toothpick warriors, and the sticky-sticky pine. the illustrations are pretty small- at least not full page, but the kids love it as much or more than any of their massive colour packed picture books. highly reccomended for anyone who would like to have a really great little collection of traditional japanese stories

This book has been around a long time. I read it to my children and now my grandchildren. The stories are similar to European fairy tales, with life lessons at the core, but the characters and settings remain firmly Japanese. I grew up hearing these tales 70 years ago. The illustrations kindle a child's imagination. This book is a wonderful way to connect to Japanese tradition and culture.

The Peach Boy and other stories in this collection brought back so many childhood memories of my mother reading these to my sister and me when we were little. I have continued the tradition to my grandkids and now the Littles (great grandkids). Just gave one to a bonus daughter as part of a baby shower gift so she may begin the tradition and share cultural stories with her little blessing.

This little book brought back so many memories. My dad was in the Air Force, so we lived in Japan for several years. We owned this book, so I was so excited to find this item. My sister also ordered a copy. It is well made and a good size. The colors and images are bright and vivid. I’ve read it to my grandkids via zoom due to the pandemic. They loved it!

I loved this book as a child and read to my kids from it. Now I gave it to my grandson. Love this book

I grew up with this story now it is for my Grandson.

I remember my mom reading these stories to me when I was in elementary school. I kind of wish that the cover wasn't a removable jacket -- the original version of this book had the cover printed on, so it didn't require a jacket. I know that there is a version available with a CD for listening and follow-along, but that version seems to lose some charm. All in all, the stories are translated from original language quite well, and I look forward to the day when my little one can listen to the stories without ripping the pages.

Peach boy was read to me as a child & for years I could remember the tale, but not the title until I came across this. It takes me back to my childhood, which is lovely. There are other tales in the book, but Peach boy holds a special place in my heart.

英語はほとんどわからないのですが、桃太郎のイラストが幼少期に祖母に読んでもらったあの懐かしい色彩とやさしいタッチに魅かれ、思わず購入させていただきました！手元に届き、中見を拝見しますと（舌きり雀）や（ぶんぶく茶釜）などのイラストも素敵で、むか〜し祖母に読み聞かせして貰ったあの頃を思いおこします…。今はもう祖母は他界してしまいましたが…。このような日本独特のやさしい味のイラスト絵本があまりないのが残念です。できましたら和文の本も作って頂けたら嬉しく思います。
