Other titles by Ed & Lorraine Warren include Graveyard, Ghost Hunters, The Haunted, In a Dark Place, Werewolf, and Satan's Harvest. Review: Astonishing, Interesting and Definitely Spooky - I had reviews before reading this book because I wanted to "prepare" myself for what I was going to be getting into. When the book arrived I didn't read it the first night, for some fear that it would "open a portal" or cause creepy things to happen. The next day I sat down and started and it starts off right away sucking you in with a story about the Warrens, which is just like any other night for them, apparently. At first I was a little shooken up by the context of what I was reading about. It's one thing to have interests in ghost stories and another to commit yourself to the understanding that there is so much more diabolical presence involved. I did have to stop occasionally to let what I was reading soak in. They go into intricate detail of demonic siege, oppression and then possession as well as ways it enters ones life. Each description and example it VERY real. And as I read on, I began to feel more comfortable with the topic. I wasn't as "creeped out" as I felt more empowered from what they were teaching me. You can tell it is written in a text book format, so it's a mix of quick excerpts, to one major encounter with the Donovan family. During each explanation Ed and Lorraine explain things very thoroughly so you can understand what was happening and why it was happening. The book is very neutral in terms of religion. They do focus the most on Catholicism and Christianity, but also mention that every religion has a form of exorcism. The reason demons are tied mostly to anything relaying to Christ is because that is the person and belief they react strongest to. I never felt like they were pushing church or religion except in the sense of to avoid these things from happening or to recover from this, attach yourself to something good, like church. Ed and Lorraine Warren come across as the kindest and most patient people you could ever meet. You feel like they are sitting down with you and kindly explaining everything so you can understand. Ed doesn't go into excessive detail in terms of names of demons and occurrences because he is protecting the reader, not insulting them. He wants to make this world a better place through the book. I did become sad multiple times when I reminded myself that he is no longer alive. But Lorraine is still here and helping people to this very day. This book is definitely an eye opener to much darker and sinister things in this world, but it is also an informative guide on how to protect yourself and what to do if anything does start happening. In the end, I don't feel scared of the unknown as much and I feel comforted in the information that could help understand it all. It is a MUST read. Pull yourself out of your comfort zone and open your mind, because this stuff is very real. And DON'T PLAY WITH OUJI BOARDS... EVER! Review: A MUST HAVE/READ FOR ANYONE INVOLVED IN THE PARANORMAL!! - I've been involved with many aspects of the Paranormal field for over 20 yrs. Ive read many, many books pertaining to hauntings, poltergeist, inhuman & human spirits, Possesion , oppression , attachments, etc, etc.. I am very familiar with the Warrens as most in this field are. They, along with MAYBE a handful of other people are/were true assets and have helped & changed many lives with their work. This book goes into more detail than any I've read of the Warrens true work. Ed was a remarkable man, who without regard for his own safety or sanity, helped & saved many countless families and people. If you are just a person who likes a " scary" book, well my friend, this may give you more than you bargained for! Sometimes " ignorance is bliss", yet just because you either don't " know" about what is out there, or just choose not to believe in it- does NOT make you safe from it. This stuff, evil or not , doesn't discriminate. Some ppl need to see or experience this stuff for themselves to " believe" it exists , yet when the DO, most wish the NEVER had. This book is not a lite read for a quick scare. It's hardcore truth about actual events that took place. Sure there are many NON believers, that doesn't make this stuff any less REAL or TERRIFYING when you stop to think that normal, everyday people who never thought of ghosts, demons, or never dabbled in an occult practice in their lives, have had their world torn apart by forces no one yet full understands. If you want to know REAL situations, REAL possessions , hauntings, beyond what is shown on elaborated TV, or 1/2 truth shows, then THIS IS YOUR BOOK. The Warrens are 2 of the most knowledgeable people ever to be in this field, the loss of Ed Warren was not just of a great man, husband, father, uncle, But of a true warrior against any and all evil, malicious, human or demonic forces. Lorraine still at her older age, does whatever she can, whenever she is needed to help those afflicted by these forces. The cases in this book will amaze you and frighten you. Not like a horror movie, but more of a wake up call that these forces are REAL & DO Exsist . Though it can be scary, it can also help you to understand these things. The book can be a helpful tool & is to me. The more you know and understand about these things, the better prepared to handle, or recognize them , the better off you are. Not that reading this book will " protect" you, but should the occasion ever arise that YOU, a Friend, loved one, Home, buisness etc is ever under attack or just has activity, atleast your more able to notice & understand what is happening and seek out the proper help sooner than later. This book is an eye opener, it takes you into situations very few have every heard of much less experienced! You'll realize that these things happen way more than you ever thought. These cases are some of the worst and when something like this happens to a person or family, they DON'T go around telling their neighbors, co workers, or even friends, for fear of being judged and ridiculed . They went through horrific experiences and most never want to speak of it again. Through this book we get to glimps into these horrid attacks, hauntings, possessions and experiences, all from the " safety" of our cozy homes. It's an excellent book, all true, not " fluffed" , it doesn't need to be... Put down the Fictional horror book, and read THIS, garaunteed to raise the hairs on the back of your neck and make you sleep with the lights on. And the worst( or best) part of it is, IT'S ALL TRUE ...... A must have book for anyone in the Paranormal field, or for anyone wanted to know more about these situations and want the TRUTH! Ps. Another great man John Zaffis ( Haunted Collector tv series) is the nephew of the late Ed Warren and learn from his Uncle! He also has a great book which I've read and loved. He is one of the few great ppl we have today in this field. Get this book, it took me years due to sold out & or out of print! It's back , for a REASON!! Jenn~

Informative, chilling, and above all riveting
For people with some knowledge of general paranormal studies, and people who work in the area of paranormal studies, Ed and Lorraine Warren are both known and unknown. They are known in the general sense that people have either heard a lot of secondhand (and generally false) information about them, or they have seen either some of their TV appearances (as I have in approximately 1978); and they are unknown in the more particular sense that people may not know the names, and if they do, they seem to quite often dismiss them as crackpots. Obviously the movie, THE CONJURING, has been one key to bring attention to Ed and Lorraine Warren, but in my own experience they crop up as secondhand references in the works of tabloid style writers, and sometimes (if I recall correctly) they will appear in books by Hans Holzer and others associated with more sensational cases. The book has a copyright of 1980 renewed 2002, so in some respects the material may be a little dated. As genuinely scary as the collection of cases presented in this book are, the characters of Ed and Lorraine come forward as people who are genuine and and also sincere in their own personal faith. I first saw Ed and Lorraine Warren on TV in Australia on what was called the DON LANE SHOW: they presented some tapes of a British case which they were investigating where voices of terrifying ferocity came across in a brief extract. This case is mentioned briefly in the book and is discussed and analyzed. The one thing that comes across in the book, as well as in interviews associated with the production of the film THE CONJURING, is that Ed and Lorraine pioneered some very systematic methods of investigation. Whilst this is not entirely focused upon, it is mentioned. The detail in some of the discussion of the cases gives enough references for people who want to follow up the material, but it is very clear that Ed (especially) gives some stern and serious warnings about playing with the psychic and paranormal fields if you do not have either the personal stability, or the network of associates to back you up in your investigations. For those who do not believe or give any credence to the type of events that Ed and Lorraine investigate, this book may very well constitute a good spooky read. If it is used as a reference work by some horror writers, as I have heard/read that it is, then this book will pay off in droves. The bibliography will also supply a plethora of material. Also if you look at some of the associated books on Amazon about the screaming house, and some other books about Ed and Lorraine Warren which a more recent, you can find an abundance of either entertainment, or warnings (depending on your point of view). Either way, this book is an excellent read.

Interesting and informative
This book seeks to describe and educate the reader on the topics of demonic influence and possession. The Warrens spent a lifetime studying, cataloging and fighting against the evil that is in this world. Most case studies presented are from the 1970's, but it is important to note that the same methods and doorways that victims used to bring demonic attention to themselves are still readily available, perhaps even more so, today. The book's main focus is to educate the reader so that they can avoid the horrors of demonic exposure, even unwittingly. One of my favorite quotes, "you never find atheists in a haunted house," is especially relevant in today's society of "political correctness" and the desire of today's youth to "express themselves" and be an individual. Many turn to witchcraft and Satanic worship because it's taboo in a traditionally Christian society. The consequences of such practices, however, are very real. Documented cases of the terror, injuries, and sometimes even death resulting from demonic influence are laid out to demonstrate to the reader truth of where even idle play with the occult can lead. While it is not a religious text, it is hard to imagine addressing one topic without the other. Another quote, "the greatest trick the devil ever played was convincing the world that he didn't exist," seems especially relevant in today's society where fewer and fewer people attend Church and practice faith. Certainly as relevant now as it was 40 years ago. Well worth a read.

Fiction or not this book is a great read.
I`m very impressed by the Warrens, I enjoyed this book very much, and I think the debate whether this is a work of fiction vs non-fiction is beyond the point, because it falls in the category of the religious-a very subjective area in and by itself-meaning it can`t be proven scientifically-and is base on belief. People need to make up their own mind whether this is real or not and whatever the outcome is, it`ll be ok. The book begins by relating the Amityville story(not in-dept though), mentioning the three o`clock hour-LOLs I hated when I wake up at the time in the middle of the night- and giving a brief account of the unfortunate family(Lutz) that was hunted in their recently bought home in 1975-76. That`s it for the Amityville, do not expect to find more here, nor will you find any information here regarding the new movie "The Conjuring" that story is vaguely told in another book "House of Darkness House of Light" by Andrea Perron herself a victim/experiencer of the saga-Hollywood stretched the movie " The Conjuring" way too much-. That being said, this is a great book, a good read though listed with a disclaimer that is a fictional book, nothing can`t be further from the truth-in a subjective way since its a matter of belief not science-. even though Ed Warren would disagree with my statement adding that this phenomena it`s a matter of evidence. In essence what I take from this book is that God exist, and so other realms and realities unexplainable in conventional terms do indeed exist too, but never forget regardless of your particular creed that God is always in control. The Warren affirm through their own experiences that haunted houses exist; the supernatural exist; the inhuman demonic spirits exist; and that ghost exist, also that these entities need physical energy to manifest either from the person own aura, or from the atmosphere or the electrical grid. And unlike ghosts, inhuman entities feed on fear and horror because they are entities that never walked the Earth-they are the Fallen Angels-they love to dwell in places where negative energy flows such as where illegal drug deals, prostitution, murdered, quarrels, fights, cheating or for that matter witchcraft have taken place, that`s an invitation for those entities to come into anyone`s life. Why is there too much supernatural activity going on to day?, the evil has roamed the earth forever, nothing new there but In ancient time the demonic knowledge was kept by very few wicked people, now anyone looking for extraordinary knowledge can find it easily and available on the Internet or mostly any book store has a New Age section. Also as more people is alienated from organize religion seeking elsewhere for alternatives to life, doors are left wide open for infestation to come about by people owns free will, what Lorraine Warren calls "The Adam and Eve 's trip all over again" because man long ago was warned about evil and was given a choice whether to exercise resistant to its influences. The creator cannot make that call for us, that's the heart of the matter. This book is a warning to all of us not to mess around with the negative entities, by being bi-curious about the occult, and bringing about a possible infestation, oppression, or possession into someone`s life, Ed said, it is like an accident waiting to happen either by the law of invitation or the law of attraction. In the words of Ed Warren "Good begets good, and bad begets worse" so being positive is our best bet against evil, putting the forces of the cosmos in our favor building a good life for ourselves and those around us. As much as I enjoyed reading this book, truth to be told, I highly doubt that most people will ever encounter similar events as the one`s unfolded in this excellent book, people in general are good, decent and hard working and for the most part hold beliefs in some sort of higher power-either through personal believe in Jesus, The Virgin Mary, Saints, Angels, or through good prophets such as Budha, muhammad, or Moses, etc, but there`s no doubt all of us will one day encounter the one to four percent(1 in 25) of demons walking among us, in our Jobs, churches, families and communities. I`m talking about the beings that lacking a total conscience, have no empathy and feel no remorse The Psychopaths-Sociopaths, beware because they will leave you broken spiritually, financially, & emotionally. Those demons are the ones we need to protect against the most. And take the advice of the Warrens seriously as well, remember emotions at home can trigger the phenomena describe in this book, and a happy home is the best defense. Finally, I deeply believe that The Creator allows this phenomena to happened as part of his divine-master plan as a kind of catalyst for the evolution of the human consciousness, and spiritual growth, specially when we straight away from the right path, and it's goes hand and hand with the phenomena of alien abduction, which is almost ALWAYS part of deamonic activity which is everything associated with the supernatural, the evil and good alike. Andrea Perron declared that demons, spirits and UFOs are intermingled in a interview but no mention was made neither on this book or Andrea's book. I recommend this book, also see "The Rite" by Matt Baglio base on Father Garry Thomas and I also recommend books on psychopathy such as Ph.D George K Simon "In Sheep`s clothing" & Ph.D Robert D Hare "Without a conscience" or Jon Ronson "Psychopath Test"

There is so much to take in from this book!
Please know this book is a work of FACT--not fiction. This is not an autobiography of Ed and Lorraine Warren, but it is a book about their cases, their conversations, and an indepth look into their work. As Ed Warren explains, there are supposedly only a handful of real Demonologists that we know of, all Catholic priests, and himself. And this work in demonology entails assisting Catholic priests who have the authority to conduct the Rite of an exorcism. This is year 2010 and unfortunately Ed Warren has passed away but before doing so, I found out that he and Lorraine have worked together dealing with the paranormal for over 40 years. In the book they tell us about some of their cases, about their lectures, as well as what they do with a possessed item--so that it can no longer terrorize the people who owned it prior to their help. That you will find very, very interesting! I sure did! Each time I would pick this book up to continue reading, I would ask for God's grace, keeping me safe in His Light, for my own protection from the paranormal, since I was dwelling in it by reading a book about it. I also used a book mark that had Jesus on it. It is a fearful thing...entities/spirits/demons...can come through into your life quite easily, even if you do not wish for them to do so. Once I started the book, in no time at all I had grabbed a yellow marker and was highlighting so much information...conversations that the Warrens had with people, priests, exorcists, spirits and demons! The information was so overwhelming, I wanted to remember many aspects for when studying other paranormal materials. The Warrens explain that it is very easy for a demon to infest/possess a person who is more friendly and nice compared to a person who has many of their own issues. It is when they gain entrance through a person who invites spirits to join them in things such as playing with an Oujiu board, interest with the occult, witchcraft, or buying a house with spirits already in it that are still 'earth bound'...those things are inlets for demon spirits. There is so much else you will learn from the Warrens but I want to point something else out, and that is...a simple spirit/ghost, can move something that weights a pound or two. A demonic spirit can move or elevate just about anything! Feel safe with this book, as it is the last truth that is in publication about Ed and Lorraine Warren, in their own words. It is a study of this couple with the denomic paranormal. And also you will find (whether or not you are a believer in God) that demons are believers. And that is a good enough reason to ask God to keep me in His Light or His Presence or something of that nature as I tackle this book and any other paranormal study! But most of all, stay away from Ouji boards! I hope you will enjoy this great book about the Warrens and their cases. This author did a terrific job. But I still wish that the Warrens would have written their own autobiography. This book will certainly do though...I hated to have it end.

Book Great but was sold a used book
The book is fantastic!!!! The seller sold a used book when a new book was selected for a higher price. Poor bait and switch tactics that did not happen when Mr. Bezos operated the company.

An Amazing Book about the Amazing Demonologists from “The Conjuring” films!
I’d like to start this review off with a few review quotes from the book: 1. “I watch/read a lot of scary stories. But f**k, The Demonologist, the true life account of Ed and Lorraine Warren, is the scariest book I’ve read.” -James Wan, director of The Conjuring films. 2. “My research relied heavily on The Demonologist. It scared the daylights out of me. Profoundly.” -Vera Farmiga, who stars as Lorraine Warren in The Conjuring films. As you can tell, I’m a huge fan of The Conjuring Universe by James Wan, ever since it birthed in 2013. I’m a young guy and had never heard of The Warrens prior to seeing the films, and I wanted to know more about the incredible paranormal investigative couple that Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson played so well. So I ordered this book “The Demonologist” that chronicles the mesmerizing five-decade career they had (many of them were intriguing, adventurous, but one thing a lot of them had in common is that they were absolutely terrifying). The first thing I noticed while reading this book was how SIMILAR their experiences were to The Conjuring films. James Wan obviously used a lot of this book as a resource for his filming. The beginning starts off with Ed and Lorraine being traumatized by a dark entity that invaded their home one day, without warning. This event obviously inspired Valak, the demon nun from the second film, that followed and haunted Lorraine. Many other incidents, big and small, instantly reminded me of both films. Just wait until you read about Annabelle. It sent chills down my spine. Another thing I noticed was how remarkably brave, courageous, and strong both Ed and Lorraine were while facing the dark side. Ed was the only non-ordained Demonologist of the Catholic Church and Lorraine a gifted clairvoyant, so they both had credible experience. I must say, the films only scratched the surface of the amazing, yet terrifying career they had. The book goes into spine-tingling detail of the most prominent cases they did, their methods and systems, how they comforted families in peril with hauntings, Lorraine’s clairvoyant abilities, and how such an extraordinary career affected and took a toll on their own lives. To those who say The Warrens were frauds, I’d like to say this: out of the 10,00+ cases they did over the world, they never charged a single penny. They did what they did very selflessly, empathetically, and out of the goodness of their hearts. I’m skeptical when it comes to the paranormal myself, but Ed and Lorraine were the real deal. After reading this book, it’s impossible to believe that they were anything but legitimate as they could be. I give this book (and The Warrens) FIVE stars! I highly recommend it to others, as well. I can’t wait to read even more books about their mesmerizing cases!

Incredibly frightening accounts in detail
I purchased this book some time ago and have only just finished it- one of the most enthralling reads I have had in a while and once I sat down I couldn't put it away the book which is fantastically written from interview extracts and wonderfully set out by Author Gerald Brittle , the reader is given a psychological, metaphysical and religious analysis of their cases with details on how situations could be handled and what causes most of the problems that occur. Towards the end of the book the emphasis on knowing yourself and your own positive purpose in this life is the greatest defence against the diabolical negativity that is constantly waiting for us to become vulnerable. A fantastic read on the dangers of Demonology in extreme depth and detail that and one of the most in depth accounts of Ed Warrens passion for the paranormal and a wonderful tribute to an extraordinary life.

A RARE AND VITAL KNOWLEDGE INDEED !
The book has met my expectations and I like it. The book contains exciting, horror, spiritual and mystical elements. Hence it is suitable for all kinds of readers. This is a book which is to be read from the perspective of spirituality so did I to extract precise concepts regarding good and evil. Please do not keep the book aside after reading but share it among your friends because this sort of knowledge is rare and is vital especially for youth. I also suggest another book which I have already read if you have a spiritual point of view which is : An Exorcist tells his story - Fr. Gabriel Amorth.
