The Kidnapping of Christina Lattimore

Good premise, but too predictable
The premise of the book seems interesting enough. It sounds suspenseful on the outside, but on the inside, I found myself figuring it out way before it happened. I think the idea of the story was a winner, but it wasn't written in a winning way. Maybe it's just me, but I don't think it was as suspenseful as the reviews would like us to think. It was pretty easy to guess the ending, and I didn't find the characters very likable. It wasn't a horrible book, it just wasn't to my liking.

I didn't really enjoy this book very much
I didn't really enjoy this book very much. It was short and told the story too quickly. I just don't think it was a very good story.

The kidnapping of christine Lattimore
a very good book, any book that holds a persons interest is good in my opinion, and in that same genre, down from the mountain.

Quick review from a HS teacher
I teach 10th grade Reading and I read this book after a colleague decided to order a class set since she had "heard" about it from another teacher. The book starts off a bit too slow, the first few pages MUST engage teen readers for them to want to continue to read. The most exciting part of the book was the kidnapping aspect, I wish there was more time spent on that part. A good portion of the novel focused on Christina trying to prove her innocence just for the sake of it, it probably would have been more thrilling if more had been at stake. Some parts about her family were just too unrelatable for the average teen to identify with, I mean what family wouldn't believe it when their child tells them that they were kidnapped?! Anyhow, my co-worker had forewarned me that the ending sucked but I had to see for myself. I was disappointed with the ending because it tied the whole thing around some minute phrase mentioned briefly in the book. I didn't even bother to go back and try to find where that quote was mentioned...i was not intrigued enough to get to the root of it.Would I have a book club reading with my students on this book? Maybe. The kidnapping scene and what Christina does the days after the kidnapping leave open a lot of room for dialogue for students to discuss what they would have done in a similar situation. However, i know my students would be confused by the ending and just say it was "stupid" their favorite word, lol.
