Birds Choice Oriolefest Oriole Feeder for Jelly, Oranges & Nectar | Orange

I own several oriole feeders, but I especially like the Oriolefest feeder because it holds THREE kinds of oriole food! 1) You can fill it with nectar. 2) You can put an orange half on the top. 3) You can fill the pockets on the top with grape jelly. My Bullock's orioles seem to like the grape jelly the best. The finches eat a bit of jelly too. Hummingbirds will sip a bit of the nectar. Oriole nectar is the same as hummingbird nectar - You use 1 part sugar to 4 parts warm water. For reloading the jelly pockets fast, I use a squeeze bottle of grape jelly. For cheaper refills, I put some grape jelly from a jar in some warm water on the stove to thin it a bit, let it cool, then refill my squeeze bottle. Orioles are colorful and beautiful. I like how they hang onto the pole to eat jelly! They have a pecking order to their feeding, so I bought a second feeder and hung it a small distance from the first. This came in handy when their babies started showing up! Their nesting habits and migration is fascinating! Be sure to read about them. Hang some orange cloth or clothing out to draw their eyes when you see the first migratory birds in the spring showing up at your bird bath or water dish. My feeder even brought me a rare black and red Orchard oriole! The top of the Oriolefest feeder lifts off for easy cleaning. I use soap and water and a dish washing brush to make fast work of cleaning. I hang the feeder out farther, so it is not directly over my deck - so I don't have to clean up the deck very often. A high wind blew my feeder down once, and it broke one of the perches. A glob of hot glue fixed it right up. If you like to feed orioles, or have never fed them before, the Oriolefest feeder is a very good choice!

Love LOVE Love My first feeder hung full season with zero business. No birds ever found it. Second season I hung this ridiculous, gigantic plastic red inverted blossom shade over it and here they came. It was as big as half a watermelon! My birds prefer Smuckers over Welches overwhelmingly. They also prefer peach preserves over grape jelly and will wait in line for fig preserves but any preserves will do. They are not fond of apricot and will give me the stink eye like I tried to pull a fast one. The Mockingbirds and Scrub Jays are really bad about crowding in but the orioles don't complain if I keep the nectar full. If that goes dry they will circle the house looking in my windows to find me as if to say, hey! Get busy cafeteria lady! So be careful what you start. LOL. Wild birds make terrific pets but please hire a few neighborhood kids to cover for you while you're on vacation. Love All

Birds like it better than older models. The perches are a bit bigger. It’s not as ant proof as I’d like but the feeder is fine and all manner of birds use it including wood peckers

I love this Oriel jelly feeder and my Oriels LOVE it! You do have to refill the jelly compartments frequently/daily but that is a plus in that the jelly is fresh and the compartments are very easy to clean and refill! I also use the hummingbird syrup (1 part sugar to 4 parts water, mixture is boiled and then cooled. It is changed every 2-3 days and the extra is refrigerated). Occasionally I will add an orange to the post but they don't seem too interested in the fresh fruit. PREVIOUSLY, I had bought a much larger oriel feeder that had deep narrow trays for the grape jelly. The jelly trays were too deep for the Orioles to get all of the jelly easily. The Oriels rejected it. The jelly went bad and attracted ants. It also was difficult to clean and even the hummingbirds showed no interest. The Birds Choice 1009 Oriole-Fest Oriole Feeder, 12-Ounce that I purchased, and am that I am both reviewing and recommending is perfect for our needs, We purchased a second one and we have so many colorful Oriels now!!

This is my third feeder and the only one I will buy. The feeding holes are larger which makes it easy for feeding both Hummers and Orioles. The built in trays for grape jelly feeds both Orioles and smaller birds like Finches and other birds. Was surprised to see them going after the jelly. This feeder is sturdy and has lasted me for quite a few years. It hangs in the sun all day with no shade and the reason I had to replace it was the plastic part where the metal hook screws into broke into small pieces and therefor couldn’t be glued back together. The best way to clean this feeder is to leave the metal hook screwed into the plastic port and just lift off the feeding tray, This will save wear and tear on the plastic part that holds the metal hook and even though the threads are metal, the surrounding part is still plastic and in my opinion, the manufacturer needs to make this port metal which would make it less prone to breakage. Aside from that problem, it’s a good feeder and the birds really do enjoy it.

I opened my feeder and immediately saw the size of the feeding holes - they sure did not look bee proof to me - something that is REALLY important - we don't need to be drowning our precious bees and other insects in nectar. AFTER I filled and hung the feeder I went to toss the box and I almost threw away the bee guards because they are very small, clear and soft - there are 8 connected together = about the size of a silver dollar and they come separate - they look like they are made of silicone - you have to break them apart and attach one to each hole on the underside of the top piece - they have slits for the birds to stick their beaks through - how long before the bird beaks push the guards off the feding holes? Right off I was mad - they should attach the bee guards to the feeder so you don't accidentally throw them out. Those type guards are going to have to be removed every time you clean the feeder - a pain, plus they would be REAL easy to lose down the sink drain. They give you 8 so there is one backup set - I'm figuring they KNOW you are going to have a hard time keeping track of the guards so they supply extras. I wonder how long they last before they get stretched out? Didn't think to ask myself how I'd know when this feeder runs out of nectar. With a nectar tank on top you can see what level the nectar is at from inside the house but with these flat type feeders you have to walk out to the feeder in order to see if it's empty. I've read numerous times that Orioles won't return if you let the nectar run out. I'm bummed as the ad for this feeder made it sound really good - time will tell. I still feel the P P Hexagon shaped Oriole feeders are the very best made and the birds like them best too but they are tricky to clean as the excellent working ATTACHED bee guards are easy to break - but they hold WAY more than this feeder does, almost 3 times as much nectar. I just ordered 2 more PP type as I KNOW they are good. Feel I wasted what I spent on this feeder. What we do for our birdies.....

Love these feeders.

I use a number of oriole feeders and by far, this is the best. The trays allow for a generous amount of jelly and the perches allow the oriole to feed while enjoying a good resting area. This feeder is my most active oriole feeder. The water opening provides good ant deterrence. A nice feeder to attract orioles to your backyard.

I have struggled for years to find an oriole feeder that isn’t a challenge to maintain. So far, this is the closest I’ve come. As other reviews point out there are occasional issues to be overcome such as insect attraction and cleaning, but compared to most other oriole feeders I have used this model is the least problematic. I’ll give this one a 4 out of 5 recommendation after a season of use.
