I am looking to add these to a solid wood cedar chest. Will they hold the weight well? And is possible to sit on the chest after adding these legs?

It depends on how you attach them to the chest, the legs are solid & would certainly hold weight if attached correctly. I used them on a large, very heavy book case.

Will these fit m8 hole?

No. These wood legs use pre-installed 5/16" -18 Coarse Hanger Bolt, fit 5/16" -18 Coarse hole.

Do I have to buy something else to be able to attach these to the bottom of a bookshelf?

If your bookshelf have the predrill hole, you do not have to buy the attach hardware. The attach hardwares are used to make these legs more durable.
