what is the width of the cross ?

It is 4 1/4". Width at the widest part. The cross itself is 1/2" wide. HTH!

Is it easy to put up?

Very easy to set up, there is a little hook in the back and I put a small nail in the wall and just hooked the cross on the nail.

No it is not. It's not overly heavy but it definitely is sturdy, not lightweight.
