Professional power for a thick Shih Tzu coat!
I bought this kit specifically for my Shih Tzu, and it handles the thick hair much better than the cordless ones I’ve tried. The motor is quiet enough that it doesn't spook him, and the high-carbon steel blades cut through knots like butter. It comes with a complete set of color-coded guards, which is great for keeping the length consistent. It’s a solid, reliable tool that has already saved me a fortune in professional grooming fees.

Good for the price
I bought this because my American Cocker was badly overdue for a grooming. I've cut her hair on my own once before, but the clippers weren't very good to begin with and they stopped working after that one time. I had gotten her from a shelter and they did a botched job of a haircut. They basically just cut out the mats she had which left her with really long strands of hair in some places and in some places it being really short. She literally looked like she lost a fight with a lawnmower. All I basically did that one time was shave her completely down because there was really nothing else I could do with that horrible cut she had. I took her to the groomer's twice since then. I spent just as much for one trip as I did for buying these clippers. The groomer does a decent job, it's just that she never understands what I mean when I explain how I want her hair cut. I like her hair long and I do what I can to maintain it. My dog has never had mats since I've had her. In other words, I don't just take her to the groomer to get her shaved down or a puppy cut. When I take her to the groomer, she always cuts it too short or doesn't cut it enough. I think my hair cut for her looks pretty good for having very limited experience cutting dog hair. (Although, I've cut people hair many times, so it's not so different) I basically shaved down her back and chest, kept her head and legs long, but trimmed it just a bit. She looks really cute and I think the clippers did a really good job in the amount of time it took. Last time I gave her a hair cut, it took twice as long and she had a lot less hair then. I also liked the fact that it included multiple combs so I was able to blend the short hair into the long. And the scissors were really sharp. Better than hair scissors I've bought for $5+. The clippers were strong enough to keep up with her really thick fur. However, I feel like they were good enough for this job, but if I had decided to do all of her body they wouldn't have held up. Toward the end, they weren't cutting as well and I had to set it to the coarse hair setting to cut the last bit around her neck. And had to remove the comb I had attached to cut the hair that grows on the sides of her face. The noise level of the clippers was tolerable and understandable. My dog wasn't afraid of the buzzing at all. However, when you switch the clippers on, it makes a really loud "snap" sound. I feel like this noise is what startled my dog because after so long she learned that noise meant it was coming at her soon. I became aware of it too when I saw her jump at the switch. They also get really hot after so long and I had to switch to scissoring the long bits and took two other breaks to let the clippers cool down. I'm sure the heat effected their performance because when they weren't working as well anymore, I stopped and oiled them and it made no difference. (I also oiled them before I started using them and when hair got stuck in them about a 3rd of the way through) I can't imagine how anyone could cut their pet's hair in 15 mins, like I read someone say. I also do not think they would ever hold up for a large dog. I found the manual to be completely disorganized. It went from how to cut the head to blades to how to groom horses, then Schnauzers, then the taper lever, then how to groom sheep, then Spaniels, then safety, then poodles then how to groom the stomach and legs. (or something like that) Also, to clarify another review the lever that supposedly made her hair cut really uneven, is the taper lever. (If she bothered to read the manual she would know that.) It moves the blades to different angles in order to give a closer cut without the use of a comb. I found this to be more of a high and low setting rather than any difference in the cut. This is also explained in the short DVD that I found to be very helpful. (Much more so than the manual) Although, the DVD went through the different breed styles a bit too quickly and would've liked to see the breeds in the title menu instead of just the poodle. In all, I would recommend this for someone who is wanting to cut hair on a small animal. It's suitable for thick hair, but not long jobs. It would probably be a good idea to keep up with small and short hair cuts rather than do one big job. Those with little experience are provided with good resources in the kit, if you utilize it. It's a very decent clipper for the price and I like all the extra bits in the kit. Here's a big question on the kit though, what on earth is that hand mirror for? (Stuck that in my purse for me (: )

Couldn't be happier.
I was worried about purchasing one of these cheaper home trimmers and performing the task myself, but now I couldn't be happier. Facts: I have no trimmer operation knowledge before this. I own a Toy Poodle so the hair is pretty thick and tough to work with. Pros: #Saves money over getting someone else to do it. #Dog is much more comfortable with her owner cutting her hair than a stranger. #Surprisingly quiet. My dog hates hair dryers, vacuum, and most other electronics, but she didn't mind the noise from this. #The accessories are nice. The comb isn't as cheap as I expected and the sissors are sharp. I am not sure what the mirror would be used for, does your dog need to see how his/her hair looks? #The cutting part is pretty quick, depending on the size of your dog. Mine was done in under 15 minutes, however see the time user in the cons below. Cons: #Hair prepping is quite time consuming. Wash, brush, rewash, re-brush. This is of course necessary to make sure the trimmer doesn't get caught in your dogs hair. The amount of prepare work you would have to do depends on your dogs hair. #I don't think that I will ever have the skill of a professional groomer. Even if I did I don't think this performs as well as an expensive commercial grade trimmer. Recommendation: #Save some money and buy this. The only thing you will really be losing is the hair cuts might not look as good as they use to. Many people have been around my dog and not noticed, I kind of doubt your friend/family are dog judges too. #Have treats ready to give your dog during the evolution. There is a reason why the professionals do this and you should to. It make the whole thing go smoother. #Routinely washing and brushing you dogs hair will help with the prep work. Also cutting your dogs hair more often will make the prep and cutting go easier.

Barely cuts, constantly catches, uneven result.
I purchased these Wahl Clippers around a year ago. The first time using them out of the package was rather disappointing, as it took many passes to get the fur to be even just slightly shorter, and the clippers would catch on fur and get suck as well. The finished product was also incredibly uneven and shaggy after hours and hours of seemingly hundreds of passes over the same areas. I initially only needed them the one time, so I stored them away and forgot about them. It has been around a year since that initial experience, and I needed to use them again. While I was skeptical because of my first impression, I wanted to try them again to see if my issues were user error. I properly cleaned and oiled the blades, and went through all of the directions multiple times, however, I still had the same experience. Even after countless passes, I could not the get fur short enough. It was almost as if the blade was just a comb, barely cutting anything off, even at the shortest setting. After about an hour of the blade constantly getting caught, and going over the same area over and over to no avail, I finally gave up and put these clippers away for good. I am incredibly disappointed in this product, as it has many good reviews and was recommended to me multiple times. However, I cannot say the same for my experience. It could be very well that I am one of the few unlucky people who have bought this product, however I no longer want to take the chance with this brand.

Solid choice
Quite louder than most clippers but is heavy duty and works great on wire coats. Biggest concern was the coat texture but still smooth as butter. Very durable so far.

Too loud, scissors are cheap, heats up, but cute well for behaved dog
Dislike: how loud the machine is, the cheap quality of scissors(you have to start your cut ALL THE WAY BACK of the scissors to have a smooth cut, if you don’t it will cut but you’ll have to do multiple cuts), also the machine heats up if you have it on for long Like: easy to hold(the machine, the scissors, and plastic comb), all the guards seem to leave a good cut result(although I wouldn’t REALLY know as this is my first time owning a dog and therefore first time grooming a dog at home, but regardless the cut turned out good, aside from some minor easy improvements for next time(like missing some hair in ears 😅), the oil seemed to do the job, the comb did its job in finding knots when brushing with it, REALLY THANKFUL the machine has a LONG CORD(even tho first time grooming at home our dog was fine after been using it first on their legs, like the instructions said, then work up, so by the time we got to his head, he was much calmer than before than when I tried 😅 to start at his head)

Saves money cutting down on trips to the groomer
4 years later and still using it today. I’m not a pro, my dog is not a show dog. I use this in between trips to the groomer. It pays for itself after one or two uses. I leave the close shaves and sani cut to the pro. This allows me to stay on top of the body cuts to avoid matting. Also this clipper and good scissors to clean up the face, legs, and rear end. Work slow and carefully.
