It is otherworldly and awe inspiring as he examines sands from all over the world.Not overly technical - anyone can understand his explanations of what constitutes each beach sampling. Yet, it will satisfy the intellect.I would recommend this book for anyone who longs to enjoy the beach for all it's beauty and wonder.I found this book so fascinating and engrossing. Fortunately for my husband, I reluctantly decided I was content to read and enjoy this book and did NOT take up yet another hobby - micro photography! He breathed a sigh of relief when I stopped short of spending a small fortune on the gear. THAT is how amazing this book is!

Nature's wonders indeed are presented to you in this book. Sand is brought to life in the most facinating micro pictures I have seen on this subject. The author's techniques are professional quality and his knowledge provides the details that will satisify a novice collector like me or a more advanced interest. The micro details of sand are largly unnoticed by the human eye. So, treat yourself to a journey of a different sort. I higly recommend this book. Enjoy!

I am so glad that I chose to "Look Inside" this wonderful book that Dr.Greenberg has presented to the world! Just a few pages and I was busy buying TWO copies ...One for my friend and One for me. We could not believe that that was what sand really looked like!"I volunteer as a "Greeter" a couple of hours each week at our local "Maritime Museum" and took my "Treasure" withme yesterday and showed it to one and all that came by to see our local "Treasures". We showcase "Blackbeard'sTreasures" that have been found after 300 years and the skeleton of a Sperm Whale that went aground some 10 orso years ago and his skeleton hangs from the ceiling. Which took many years of waiting for nature to take care of theremains and then the final cleaning and putting the bones back together and hanging him from the ceiling.This book merits a "Gold Medal" if there are such rewards.

As soon as I heard of Dr. Greenberg studying sand through a microscope I was hooked. I love, love love beaches and the way each beach seems to have a different type of sand, a tint of pink, black, brown and white, all with different hues mixed in, and my favorite vacation spot is on a beach and my favorite activity is walking on the beach in search of shells, even the very tiny ones. Most every beach I walk on I scoop up about a tablespoon of the sand and put it in a very small jewelry baggie and tape it into the album I make when we get home. Little did I know the reasons for the different colors textures, etc., until Dr. Greenberg's adventures. I had to have the book, and I'm so pleased I now have it and all my little bags of sand and a microscope to investigate the very real treasures in them.

Such a gorgeous book and so unique! I bought one for myself and one as a gift for a friend who just moved to the coast - she loved it. Beautiful, amazing photography. This book will make you think about "ordinary" sand in a whole different way. A great coffee table book - a real conversation starter!

Un libro splendido (n.b. in Inglese), che racconta vari aneddoti sull'analisi della sabbia al microscopio da parte dell'autore, sulla composizione, le differenze, etc. ma soprattutto un libro COSTELLATO di immagini meravigliose, che -personalmente- non avrei mai creduto di associare alla sabbia, che abbiamo sempre dato per scontata. Consigliato a chi vuole conoscere un po' meglio la spiaggia su cui si sdraia d'estate.

O livro mostra como as mínimas coisas são maravilhosas de se ver. Um mundo completamente inexplorado e novo. Perfeito. Foi exatamente o que procurava neste livro.
