Best at-home highlighting kit + tips!
Perfect kit if you're wanting to go really blonde! I've used this kit so many times and it (almost) always turns out great! I prefer it over any other at-home highlighting kit I've tried. It gives me the best cool blonde color, comes with a toning solution, and has a sturdier metal hook (so much better than the flimsy plastic hook in other kits). Here's a few tips for the best results:- Kit has enough for short to medium length hair. If you have long or thick hair, I'd recommend getting 2 kits so you have enough solution.- The cap that comes with is a bit thin and flimsy, so use a better cap if you happen to have one. Otherwise, it works just fine as long as you pull the hair thru carefully. If you're too rough when pulling or digging around with the hook, it will tear a larger hole in the plastic lining. This can lead to bleed marks (a splotch of color where the bleach leaked thru). Basically looks like an uneven area of color amongst the rest of the highlights. It's honestly not too noticeable unless you're a hairdresser and know what it looks like. Just a risk you take with these at-home kits.- Use latex gloves when applying solution if you have them handy. The kit comes with gloves but they're huge and awkward. The instructions suggest using the spatula to apply the solution, but I prefer to apply it using gloves so I can work the solution onto the strands more evenly. Be sure to apply it at your roots, but don't glop it onto your scalp - this could cause excess solution to bleed thru holes.- Follow the instructions and pay close attention to your timer so you don't overprocess. I have medium brown hair and it usually takes about 40-45 mins for me, but everyone's hair is different! Set intervals so you can check on it.- The purple toning rinse says to apply it after you've showered. Trust me when I say - do this step in the shower. It's very liquid-y and will splatter/run all over.- Get a good purple shampoo/conditioner to use for further toning if it turns out too brassy. Use it a couple times a week to maintain a bright blonde!Best of luck ladies, I hope your hair turns out amazing! :)

LOVE!
Love this stuff! I will definitely be using it again. It took my hair from a dishwater blonde to a vibrant blonde. I did do heavy highlights. You don't have to do this much. You can do light highlight. But this stuff is great! Saved me $200+ getting it done at the salon.

A lovely 'pick me up'
Great do it yourself product with rewarding results. I watched lots of videos and read all the reviews I could for tips for success. The cap was not very easy to use, yet the results were worth the effort as I have not highlighted my hair at home before. So I had to use 2 mirrors to see the back and side hole metal hook placement and it was a bit of a stretch to do but good investment of time. Took a couple of hours to complete pulling long hair through every hole. I even stopped and took a break for a bit. Watching how-to videos on YouTube really made a difference in my success. I even watched professionals explain how to start at the front top pulling strands through the cap. Then complete the sides starting from the front to back. Reading the directions and videos helped remind me to start putting lightener on back of head first and away from the roots. Then going back and doing the roots thoroughly. This is because the heat from your head will accelerate the processing and you get more lift at the roots than the ends if you apply the bleach on all parts at the same time. I did order a tool hair bleaching kit that has the thin brush/comb. I recommend using that to make sure every piece of hair you want highlighted is saturated. The formula has great thickness to it and with my long hair I used the entire mixture. I have undyed light brown hair and left the mixture on for an hour for the desired results. It was somewhat unnerving waiting and watching my hair turn orange-ish, then yellow, then perfectly blonde. Hang in there. Don't stop processing too early. That's what worked for me anyway. The leave in toner is terrific butsuper drippy. It had zero thickness-very watery. So I listened to the reviewer that advised applying toner in the shower. Great tip! So happy with the outcome. Did end up with a couple of very minor "hot root" spots right in front so got some Mineral Infusion Gray Root Concealer medium brown color to 'fix' the oopsy spots-works great! Research "hair mascara" if you want to know more about those type of products. Although it's for covering grey, I like the little presicion wand to fix trouble spots of my highlights. It just looked more appealing to have instead of the spray root touch up. Actually, I'm not sure what they're called but hair is light then dark then light again. So kind of a calico oops. The highlights look beautiful and natural. A lovely pick me up. And, a couple of 'hot roots'/calico places that I will keep covering after each time I wash my hair will serve as a reminder how brave I was, as a newbie, to have highlighted my own hair because of the pandemic.

This is exactly what i wanted.
Since my hair grew back now that i stopped chemo for a while, I wanted to lighten it because it grew in darker, actually much darker than before. I first colored my hair blonde again like it used to be and while I got the color close it was just that one color. It needed some highlights and this did the trick. It comes with the head cap which you need to poke through the hols first to get al the plastic holes open and its much easier to do when itโs not on your head. Then you pull hair strands through the cap. You put the mixture which is somewhat dryer than the color that I had put onto my hair propr to this. I chose to put some watere on it, warm an very lightly for the last 15 minutes and took the cap off and pulled my other hair with a wide tooth comb through with the other hair that had the product and warm water on. It loosened up the product and I feel for my hair personally it needed that little bit of extra umps to ramp it up. I hate my fat face from the chemo drugs so I am not showing a picture and I couldnโt figure out how to take a picture of the back of my hair holding the phone and a mirror so you will just have to picture it yourself. It really did come out very pretty and natural. I hate the smell but its to be expected with hair lightening products. Even when they say it doesnโt have ammonia or other harsh chemicals in it that smell like rotten eggs but sadly they all do . This included but my husband put on the kitchen exhaust fan and the bathroom one that are hooked up to our outside exhaust and it really helped with getting rid of the smell. We then boiled water in a frying pan size pot and allowed 3 sliced up lemons to sit in it for almost 2 hours. That really dissipated the smell. I may just be sensitive to this type of smell because people work around this all day and it doesn't seem to bother them. After all that being said I really feel my hair came out great and I will use it again in the future when this grows out. The price on Amazon plus the fact that its delivered overnight was very reasonable.

Quick and Easy
This is an amazing product. I have darker, more red tints and longer hair. Most kits turn me to brassy or orange color. (My mom used to do my hair and no longer can.) So this kit does work. Having longer hair is hard to pull through the cap. Would recommend a second hand if you need the crown highlighted. Or get a better cap. I was looking for more face lightening. There is enough product. I love they supplied a toner reducer to help kick extra brass out of the hair. It works fast, so definitely check every 10 to 15 minutes. Definitely will buy this product again!

Awesome, but Be Cautious and Use leave-in Conditioner
I will likely buy this again, but will use it a bit differently. It does a great job lightening hair, but of course dark brown hair has the tendency to turn an orange tint, so be cautious. I pulled thick pieces of hair through the cap, and in the future I would pull thin pieces through (which is difficult to do.) It would have been so much easier to have someone else help me, especially with the back and top of my head. I love that the box includes a purple toner to reduce brassiness, but the toner is completely liquid and very thin, so it runs through your hands. Then it says to NOT rinse out the toner. *problem- this package does not include any conditioner, which is a must for my long hair. After I added the runny toner, I had to add conditioner and then rinse it all out so my hair would be manageable. I wish they combined the purple toner with a conditioner. Next time I'll use a leave-in conditioner after the toner.

Great for light blonde highlights at home!
Let me preface this by saying that I've gotten my hair professionally highlighted for about eight years. I've been blonde almost my whole life because of that. This past year, due to my starving college student status and my mom not paying for my highlights any longer, I went and had my hair dyed back to its natural color. However, this summer, not even six months later, I started to miss the blonde. At home highlights scare me to death. The whole reason I started getting my hair done professionally is because of my mom experimenting with at home highlighting kits on my hair with disastrous results. This on the other hand turned out great! It was slow moving at first. I wanted all over highlights, so I was pulling hair through all of the holes with the grey circles around them. When I got to the back of my head, I had to enlist the help of my boyfriend because it was impossible to see. I think anyone who says they do it by themselves is amazing or lying. I put most of the bleach on there (Waste not, want not), and let it sit for thirty minutes. When I checked on it, I worried that it was still too golden, but I knew that if I left it any longer that I would be Playboy Bunny Blonde, as I like to call it, so I went ahead and washed it out.Pulling the cap off in the shower? Scariest thing ever. All I could see was a big layer of cornflower yellow and then a dark layer of my natural color. After using the shampoo provided, though, it toned down to a pretty white blonde. The toner helped even more to take out the rest of the gold color. The real results showed up when I got out and brushed my hair. This got the highlights where they need to be as opposed to one solid layer of blonde on the top. They look great! They are evenly distributed and are a beautiful shade of blonde. :)My only complaint? When I tried to comb out my hair after I took the cap off, my hair was one solid knot. It took me fifteen minutes just to get it brushed out.Other than that, it was great!

Fantastic Buy!!
Amazing product!! I cannot say enough for this product! I have been searching for a DIY cap highlight kit for ages and finally came across this one on Amazon. I read all of the reviews before deciding to order and I am so happy I did! It was pretty easy to hook my own hair which I was pretty uneasy about going into it.. but I got the hang of it pretty quickly. They colour came out a really nice natural colour because of the blue toner after colour they provide. It really sets their product apart. It eliminates that brassy undertone a lot of blondes, which can make your hair look orange.Fantastic but and will definitely order again!
