Nice little tabletop radio
I bought this before hurricane Dorian was supposed to pass us by because I did not have a decent battery powered radio with me. I picked this particular model because it can receive the 2 meter ham band and also because it has the tone controls on it. The built in antenna works just fine and I can pickup all of the FM stations in our area with ease. I have not tried AM. There are two screw terminals for an external AM antenna, there is also a bar antenna internal to the radio for AM so you do not have to provide an antenna for AM. The radio sounds great with the bass and treble adjusted to taste. It only has one, monaural speaker, but on the FM band you can listen in stereo with a pair of headphones. I really like this feature. It has a clock with alarm functionality. I keep the radio next to my bed on the nightstand and the clock is nice to have. The backlight on the LCD does not turn off or dim automatically, which may be a problem. For me, it is not. I have not tried the alarm, but I have used the weather band alert function. The weather alert has a few settings; it can beep and allow you to turn on the radio, or it can turn on the radio automatically and you will hear the NOAA station's update. There are two things I don't like about this radio. The first is the lack of squelch control on the ham band. So, if you use the ham band, be prepared to listen to a lot of static. Second, if you use the weather alert mode and you leave the radio unplugged, the batteries will go dead in about 3-4 weeks even without ever turning on the radio. This radio can be powered off of mains AC (110V, 60Hz) or 4, "D" cell batteries. The radio will automatically switch to battery power when the AC power fails even if the AC cord is attached. This is great because you will not lose your presets or alarm, etc., if the power goes out. This is a no frills, reasonably well built radio. It serves my needs perfectly and I hope it will last me a long time.

Probably the best radio available!
I had an older CCRadio for many years and recently decided to get this newer model and sell the older one on an auction site, which I did successfully. This one one is very similar, but adds the HAM radio band. I doubt I will use that much but I guess it's nice to have. I also opted for the Titanium color versus the Black one that I had previous. I like the new color, it looks very sharp although the unit I received did have a slight manufacturing defect-there is a mar near the LCD window where it looks like they nicked it during assembly. This for me is not enough of an issue to hassle in sending it back in for a replacement however. The radio sounds and performs wonderful. I don't have any issues in my location with reception anyway but the reception seems quite strong and the speaker on it is great for both talk radio and music. It is very clear and can fill the room with audio nicely. I'm using this mostly as a clock radio and it works very well for that. I also use the sleep function often when it's nice to be able to fall asleep listening to the radio, without having to worry about having to shut it it off later. I only wish this had Bluetooth functionality so I could pair my iPhone to the speaker and use it to play music. That would be very cool. This radio is also a bit pricey. Note, this radio takes .6 watt of power when off but when you have the weather alert feature activated, it adds 1 more watt. I wish it was a bit less, but I can understand why this is: the weather alert receiver needs to be constantly on and scanning in order to be able to receive any weather alerts. I guess it's worth it, especially in the winter and since I live right on the coast. This amount of 'vampire' draw probably equates to less than $2.00 a year in electricity.

Excellent brand - Excellent quality
Radio exceeds my expectations. Clarity of am stations is outstanding. I like the snooze timer for night time listening.

Very Nice Radio
We got this for when our internet is down. We live in a very rural area so getting NOAA weather is a must. This radio surprised me in that it gets the emergency weather with the antenna retracted in the case, and gets it perfectly. The sound quality is very good considering it's a table top radio, and it does get quite loud without distortion. Easy to tune, nice to have a lockout feature to keep you from turning it on/killing the battery. Also nice having a dimmable backlight. Nice having quick presets and very nice in an emergency to have it monitor weather and let you know when an alert comes. I did get some SW stations in the evening, a better antenna is a must here. All in all very happy !

Great multipurpose radio
This is my second one with the original one being knocked off the counter and breaking after 19 years of use. 19 years ya'll. The old one had the analog TV channels but this new one does not (duh, don't exist anymore) replaced with VHF HAM Radio bands. AM pulls in stations pretty good but the addition of an AM external antenna puts it in another league. FM pretty good but at certain times of day here in Savannah GA we get some station bleed over from more stronger stations. Again, the addition of an external FM antenna would correct this. Sound quality is great for a plastic box. The 4 D cell batteries last a couple days so the (included) AC power cord is a requirement. The weather stations are pre-set so look up your location and set to that one. Be careful if you set up the automatic weather alert. This thing will go off at anytime the NOAA pushes out an alert and will scare the be-jezzus out of you in the middle of the night. The clock and clock radio work. All in all this is a fine instrument to pull in distant radio signals.

Over the last two months, I have purchased three of these CCRadio-2E (CC-2E) radios off of Amazon-dot-ca. I already own a CCRadio-2 (CC-2), which I had for almost three years now and was quite happy with it, but based on Jay Allen's very favourable review of the CC-2E, I thought I too would like to enjoy better sound and improved FM reception. Who wouldn't? I have compared all three CC-2E radios to my original CC-2. The first CC-2E I have purchased was a Black colour model. Yes, it did have a slightly better FM reception and a little better, more open sound (a wider range of Bass and Treble adjustments) than my CC-2. It is a fine sound, nothing wrong with it, but not anywhere near as great as what Mr. Allen claims it to be ' he grossly exaggerated the quality of the sound. The sound from a GE Superadio II or a Kaito KA-2100/CCRadio-SW is much fuller and stronger than that of the CC-2E. Admittedly, the sound is somewhat stronger if the CC-2E (or CC-2) is operated off of its AC electric cord instead of the four 'D' batteries. Unfortunately, my first CC-2E had a poorly functioning AM band. Even after 'fine-tuning' it by its built-in software, it had these 'birdies' or rhythmic chirping in the background on AM, especially at night. This radio was returned to Amazon. A couple of weeks later, I purchased a second CC-2E in the Titanium colour. This one had no birdies on AM, and the sound was the same as on the first one, which was perfectly fine for me, but program listening reception on both AM and FM was a little worse ' somewhat staticy/noisy ' than on my original CC-2! How is this possible with DSP tuning? So the second CC-2E was also returned to Amazon. Then I telephoned C. Crane in California to tell them about my disappointing experience with their new CC-2Es. They assured me that the CC-2E is a fine radio and I just had bad luck purchasing two 'defective' models in a row. I was told by C. Crane Technical Support that the CC-2E should perform at least as well as the older CC-2. That is what the 'E', Enhanced, stands for! They also claimed that any defective radios returned to Amazon would not be re-sold to new customers, but shipped back to C. Crane for inspection. About a month after purchasing the second CC-2E, I decided to order, for the last time(!), a third one from Amazon-dot-ca. This one in Titanium as well. The third CC-2E worked nearly fine. The sound was a little better, the FM reception was slightly clearer, and the AM reception was the same as with my original CC-2. At this point, I thought this third CC-2E was a keeper. But I have discovered a huge design flaw with the CC-2E. When reception of a radio station is less than optimal, the sound Volume is proportionately diminished! This was very noticeable at night on AM, when the reception of a station would somewhat deteriorate, the sound Volume would dramatically decrease. *** IMPORTANT: I believe this major flaw applies to ALL CC-2E radios! *** This third CC-2E was also returned to Amazon. Based on my own personal experience with these CC-2E radios, I have to recommend that if you already own a working-well CC-2, do not purchase a CC-2E radio. Considering everything about portable radios, currently there is no better AM/FM radio on the market than the CC-2. That is, the CCRadio-2 and not the CCRadio-2E. The CC-2 is a beautifully designed radio ' both functionally and cosmetically. It is simply the best AM/FM radio you could purchase for convenient every day use.
