Great little waffle maker - Updated
August 2,2026. Another update. It is now 2+ years since we purchased this and it's still going strong after being used 2-3 times a week for a family of 3. We use the waffle plates and panini plates exclusively. I would love a larger version that would allow me to do 4 waffles or 2 paninis at a time. Other than that, this is a great little appliance to have on hand. June 24, 2024. This small appliance continues to prove itself a great workhorse. I make 2 batches of 12 waffles a week (freeze them to warm in the toaster later for grab and go breakfast) with fruit, nuts and/or chocolate chips added in. Waffles cook in 5-6 minutes. Also using the grill plates for panini-type sandwiches, sliders, and grilling eggplant and tomatoes. It was great to have during a 3-day 95+ degree heat wave - dinner on the table in no time without heating up the kitchen. Original review - I have to really love or hate a product to write a review. I really love this one. Compact so it's easy to store in my small kitchen. Removable plates so it's easy to clean. Three different sets of plates - waffle, sandwich and grill - so it's multi-purpose. It gets a real workout in our house. And it's Black & Decker, a company who's products I've always had great luck with. My only complaint is its size. You can only cook 2 waffles or small sandwiches at a time. I would love this product even more if it cooked 4 waffles at a time. You will note that the use instructions say do not use cooking spray, yet a couple of recipes call for it. Ignore the recipe instructions and do not use cooking spray. It will make a horrible mess to clean up; I don't know what it might do to the appliance. Instead pour a little cooking oil in a bowl, dip a paper towel in the oil and lightly (and I mean lightly) wipe the cooking surfaces every couple of batches. Nothing will stick, and clean-up is easy. If you're looking for a waffle maker, I definitely recommend this one.

Quick and easy appliance for multiple uses
I have a smaller version of this appliance for 2 years now that I use for myself. (It only makes one waffle square or filled sandwich, or panini.) I got this one as a gift for someone who will appreciate the double size - twice as much food cooked in same amount of time. Hands down the best feature is the different, removable plates. They make for easy cleanup, and versatile choices for cooking. They aren't the best 'non-stick' surfaces, but food generally doesn't stick much. A wee bit of butter or oil goes a long way to help that. That it's so simple to use is a big pro, and a slight con. It really only turns on and off. No heat settings, and no timer. I've had enough experience with small appliances like these to know it takes about 2 minutes for, say, a waffle. So you have to time what you're cooking, and learn as you go for how much time specific foods need. Grilled cheese or filled sandwich also only takes 2 minutes, and is heated through, even when stuffed full. I have even used it to heat food without bread, since the plates have some depth and can be easily cleaned. I did test the 'gift' unit with 2 slices of white bread on the panini plates - it toasted the bread evenly and well, but only on the bottom. Because a single slice of bread isn't tall enough to fill the space, it didn't touch the top plate so the top didn't toast. Food needs to touch both plates to toast or brown completely on both top and bottom. That might explain reviews where waffles show not browned.

So far, its a decent waffle maker
Nice size, though this unit won't be replacing my current larger, 8+ yr old countertop griller, made by a famous boxing champ (which still works like a charm AND has temp control). Plus, I made the mistake of missing the return window - sigh. That said, I like the removable cooking plates and the compact size is nice if you lack storage. My waffles turned out delicious and fluffy, but took at least 7 minutes to cook to my preference. There was a concerning, "plastic burning" smell that decreased by the third batch of waffles. If it continues, I'll have to contact the manufacturer. The size of a single waffle is about 3.75" x 4.25" when pouring 3 heaping tablespoons of batter into the center of each waffle plate, and spreading batter to corners before closing lid. My waffles didn't get as browned as I'd like, but were fully cooked and texture was great! Per the instructions, I used cooking spray for each batch. It's not a "perfect" small appliance, but I like that its compact, has cord control, and can stand upright for storage. For me personally, the perfect multi-purpose appliance would be at least one inch larger in both length/width, with removable plates, cord control, upright storage, AND temp control. But that's just my personal preference. The handle DOES stay cool to the touch, but the sides/body get very hot, so use caution. The plates are easy to clean. The unit has a 2 year manufacturer warranty, as long as you register it with Black & Decker. Only four stars cuz I havent used the other plates. I'll update my review once I try the sandwich and grill plates.

Love the product, the price, and the bonus sandwich plates!
I had been hankering for homemade waffles, but hadn't owned a waffle iron for several years. I didn't need a big one for a whole family, because I am just cooking for myself. This Black and Decker looked just right, and sure enough, it filled the bill. It was especially important to me to get nonstick, removable, dishwasher safe plates for easy clean up, and this has that. But imagine my pleasant surprise when it came not only with to two pairs of plates for waffles and grilling mentioned in the listing description, but also what I think of as a "bonus": a third set of plates for making sealed triangular sandwiches with standard-sized bread, like the sandwich makers that used to be big in the infomercials decades ago. So far I've used both the waffle and the sandwich plates. Both worked great, and I'm sure the griddle will, too. Easy to put in and take out, and they cleaned up very well in the dishwasher. I store all six plates (three pairs) on the same shelf with the waffle iron to make sure I can find them quickly whenever I get in the mood. Highly recommend! NOTE: The waffle plates are not the circular Belgian style like a lot of hotel self-serve breakfasts are now. They make four smallish rectangular waffles, like the waffle irons I grew up with. This is perfectly fine for me, but if you have your heart set on round Belgian waffles, this one is not for you.

So far, so good
I have a mini waffle-maker and a mini sandwich press (the kind that makes triangular press marks) and wanted to get one appliance that does both and a bit more, plus which cooks two waffles or small sandwiches at once. I was hesitant about this thing because of the quality problems that customers have reported. I've had good luck with Black & Decker (B&D) in the past, though, so gave it a try. I'm hanging onto my old waffle maker until I've had the B&D for a while, though, and watching for quality problems. How I use it: I live alone. I use this for one or two chaffles (keto cheese waffles), a single large sandwich, or one or two sandwiches made with smallish loaf bread. Now that I've tried the panini press/grill plates, I've stored the triangular sandwich press plates in a high cabinet in the unlikely event that I'll ever want to use them again. My favorite thing is to take a purchased sub sandwich and squish it in the panini press, getting a crunchy crust with delightful grill marks. This is better than reheating a sandwich in the toaster oven because it's OK to put a sandwich in the B&D even if there's lettuce in it, because you can take the sandwich out before it wilts the lettuce: the bread still gets that great crust. My usual chaffle batter (one egg, half a cup of finely-shredded cheddar, and a sprinkle of some random spice mix from my spice cabinet) makes two interesting chaffles: they don't fill the waffle iron enough to touch the top plate, such that I get sort of a lace edge, with square holes all around the outside edge. I thought this was a problem until I ate them. The crispy lacy edges are my favorite part! Now I add a little cayenne to the mix, and the result is very similar to cheese straws, which I love, but the chaffles are not greasy, which is different from (and better than) cheese straws. So now I make extra, put them in a food storage box on the kitchen counter when cool, and eat them as snacks. If I want one substantial chaffle, I'll put all the batter in one side. I tried cooking a small steak in the panini press/grill, and it was OK -- I buy whole tenderloins on sale and cut them into 1.5" steaks, so, no problem making contact top and bottom, but the cook was uneven. The right side was medium rare and the left side was medium. I've gone back to searing the steaks in a small non-stick pan, like I used to (and yes, in my experience, you can sear meat in non-stick). When I'm not using it, I store it on the kitchen counter behind my toaster oven, which sits athwart a corner, so there's lots of room back there. But it stays out where I can use it most of the time, because I use it a lot. Bottom line: I love it. It's fun to play with, trying different things, and it fills needs I didn't know I had, such as improving sandwiches. Very versatile. The size is perfect for an old lady living alone. I will continue to experiment with it, and grilling a chicken breast is probably next. I'll brine it and maybe pound the thick end so it will cook more evenly, and will rotate it halfway through cooking. Tips: - If you use pieces of cooking parchment to enclose food, the plates won't need washing at all. I use "Katbite 130PCS Air Fryer Liners" (from Amazon) for this. You can set the food on a sheet of this paper and just fold it over for most things, so you protect the top and bottom plates, and if there's any likelihood that the food will spread out at all (like cheese melting in a sandwich), wrap it all the way around to contain it. The paper will extend out past the sides of the B&D, which is not a problem, and is even helpful for removing the food to a plate. The cheese (or shredded meat or whatever) that spills out will still grill and get delightfully crispy (and will be easy to remove completely inside the paper, with no cleanup). - When using cooking parchment, you can lay a skewer or chopstick along one long edge of the food, inside the paper, to help position the food inside the B&D. This is especially helpful when wrapping the food up completely. With thick food, the B&D won't close completely, so the skewer sticking out the side doesn't interfere with anything. Notes: - The B&D handles thicker food than most similar appliances because it's set up to make thick Belgian waffles. I like this and chose the B&D because of it. My goal was to use the panini plates to grill thick sandwiches, and it does this like a champ. It does mean, however, that you may need more waffle batter than you are used to using. - It's fast. Don't leave the kitchen while it's going. I like to put a sandwich in, then get my plate together with things like slaw and pickles and get my beverage ready, and by then the sandwich will be perfect. - The plates wash well in the dishwasher, but come out with a gazillion water drops. I set them on the rack of my air fryer/toaster oven and run the "warm" cycle (180F for 10 minutes), and by the time they are cool enough to touch, they are dry. The air-fryer function gives it a blow-dried effect. It does not prevent water spots, though. - The underside of the plates gives off a black substance that stains. I tried hand-washing the plates the first time I used them and dried them with a white cloth, and there's a stain on the white cloth now that won't come out. I tried soaking and pre-treating, and it still didn't come out. After running the panini plates through the dishwasher several times, the black stain still comes off the back on my fingers. Not a problem, I just handle it by the edges and dry them in the toaster oven. - There's nothing wrong with the triangular sandwich press plates. I just don't see that there's any advantage over using the panini press. I might make grilled cheese sandwiches with it in the future... but the panini press is really good for that, too. If problems develop with the B&D, I'll post an update. But, so far, so good.

ABSOLUTE JUNK...DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!!! Look Elsewhere For Something Else
Worked very well for the first two times I used it, then the next time I went to use it, I removed it from it's resting spot in the cabinet it's kept in and the bottom stayed there, obviously not useable any more since wires are showing and it's now a fire hazard. Of course, this was just after the return period ended, so now I'm stuck with a piece of junk that I'm going to try to contact the manufacturer about, not expecting any satisfaction. I had expected a "Black and Decker" product to be of better quality, and until this happened, I hadn't read the other 1 star reviews claiming the same thing happened to several other purchasers. Then to add insult to injury, I scrolled further down and saw comparison products, listed for under half of the cost, under another name (Chinese brand name) that is exactly the same product, which suffered the exact issues in it's review as well. I guess I should have read the 1 star reviews first. I wouldn't have purchased this junk had I done that. This junk "was" listed as an Amazon Choice. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY ON THIS GARBAGE PRODUCT that is no longer even carried in "The Black & Decker Store" on Amazon.

Love it but there is a major issue.
I’ve had this wonderful sandwich maker since 2023 and loved it. But a few days ago the bottom stand cracked and broke off. The main problem was that it showed visual electrical wires exposed and for me that’s a major issue. There are reviews stating the same problem. I don’t have “money to burn” being a senior so this expense is a problem as I won’t use it in fear of a fire. Since this “PROBLEM” I don’t see that the company has put any warnings up or corrected the problem. Very disappointed !!

Easy to use and clean. I would recommend!
Super easy to use and clean! Loving croc monsieur night 🥰 it also warms up rather quickly. I have yet to find a good waffle recipe that works though. Any link appreciated!

Fantastic product; so easy to clean! Fast shipping!!!
This multi use iron is fantastic! This was a major upgrade from my old waffle iron that did NOT have removable pieces. I'm so happy that I can remove the grills to easily wash them but I'm also so pleased with the fact that there are 3 different grill options. This is a great kitchen item!

Great little waffle iron
Love this grill. We use it all the time for waffles mostly, but will rotate through other plates as well. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the plates wear and chip really easily, even with hand washing. This is our second grill we've purchased in 5 years. The previous one was the exact same model. We had to replace it due to paint chipping off the previous waffle plates - didn't like the idea of that on my food. Too bad they don't just sell replacement plates.
