MEV Personal Size Large Print (Cherry Brown): Modern English Version (MEV)

My favourite modern-day language version
The MEV is definitely a work-in-progress and I do hope there'll be future editions to correct errors and make further improvements. That said, for me, this is the most readable modern-day English version of the Bible based on the same text as the AV. I'm on my sixth time of reading it the whole way through over the past three years. On the last couple of occasions I've been particularly blessed by reading it out loud. I find the language flows so beautifully and I can definitely say it's my 'go to' devotional version.

Not 100% convinced.
This Bible is well made and worth the price. Pages are rather thin as print shows through easily. However, if you use a highlighter this generally doesn't show through too much.As to the translation, after having used this Bible for 3 or 4 months I find myself becoming more frustrated with (i) Americanisms - not just the spelling but the grammar is frequently overtly American and thus to my mind often rather clumsy. (ii) accuracy- in some places the translation is suspect. Isaiah 58 v 8 is just appalling, using the word 'reward' to translate the kjv 'rereward' which in fact means 'rearguard'. Also in Psalm 139 v 24 it speaks of the 'ancient way' when the Hebrew is 'derek olam' which means 'way everlasting', not 'ancient'. There are many similar suspect or clumsy translations which I find unsettling as accuracy is seriously important for serious Bible readers. I have a degree in theology and have studied hebrew and greek for 40 years (I say this in all humility) but find myself reading this Bible wondering what I shall find next. Not very reassuring. However, if this doesn't bother you then you will find, by and large, a good alternative to the nkjv in this Bible. The print size is good and this is what attracted me to it originally, apart from its NT basis being the textus receptus.

Beautiful copy of the Bible
The is genuinely one the nicest copies of the Holy Bible I have ever seen. It is truly a 'personal' size being the ideal size for carrying to Church etc. The font is exceptionally easy to read and you can't really see the writing on the other side of the page. However what makes this particular Bible unique is the colour of the imitation leather cover, bring cherry brown- its a beautiful cover making it look considerably more expensive than it really is. The edging of the pages are also a kind of cherry brown making the whole Bible look very elegant. The Bible was printed in China which makes it even more surprising. I bought it for personal devotions in this new translation the 'Modern English Version'. It reads quite similar to the Authorised Version only in modern but dignified US English. I highly recommend this new translation the MEV its really very easy to read whilst also being accurate to the original Scriptures. The Bible has one burgundy ribbon marker. There is a relatively long concordance at the back, but no maps. I am impressed with the quality of this Bible all around and recommend it. It would make a great gift for presentations etc.

Good bible, good quality.
So, firstly the overall build quality of this particular bible is okay, of course this is a mass produced product and there are some tale-tale signs of that. But more furthermore, this is (in my opinion) a much easier bible translation to read and to also follow the narrative. If you love the KJV like me, but find it hard to follow the overall story, the this “modern English bible” is a good substitute. I was also very disappointed to see no other reviews that had no pictures so I did it myself to make it clear what you are buying.

Absolutely thrilled
I have a few bibles in different versions but decided I need a large print one. I prayed about what to buy, my favourite NIV or something else. I felt led to this one and I am so really pleased. I absolutely love it. Great quality, lovely print and I now love this version. Great service as well

Excellent Value Accurate Translation.
The 12 point print is larger and more legible than the 10 point which is often described as ' Large Print ' in Bibles. Which is exactly what I was hoping for. To me this translation reads more in accord with the King James Bible than the New King James, making it easier to follow a speaker reading from the other version. The binding and finish are excellent for a Bible at this price and it is a delight to handle. I can well envisage this becoming a standard for many evangelical believers who wish a translation of the Textus Receptus which is both understandable and reverent in its' tone and delivery.

A good effort
Quality-wise, pretty good for the price. It was slightly smaller, but much thicker than I expected, and certainly heavier. However, the type is genuinely large! As far as the translation is concerned, it is generally good, but rather patchy: there doesn't seem to have been much effort to ensure that all the various translators' efforts are 'smoothed over' by final editing. There is one infantile error in translation, in Isaiah 58:8, which makes me suspect that this is sometimes simply a re-rendering of the King James, rather than a genuine translation from the original languages. Having said all that, I'm happy overall!
