Doctor De Soto: (Newbery Honor Book; National Book Award Finalist)

Well written book to teach children about being good people but also not unaware of the not so savory things of others, in this case the fox

Willis Steig was a genius; this is one of his best.

I purchased this book, Doctor De Soto, on the recommendation of a reading teacher, who informed me that William Steig's books are great reading books for advanced 2nd graders. Steig's story lines are substantial, and while the language and word usage are a little "mature", it is age appropriate. The general maxim, in 1st and 2nd grades, a child is learning to read; while starting in 3rd grade, "a child reads to learn." I am trying to get my child ready for 3rd grade reading and comprehension. I wanted my child to have a book with a story line that was a little more complex, not so formulaic or predictable. In addition, I wanted a reading book where there were many more multi-syllable words and advance vocabulary. Due to being out of school (COVID-19), she did not get a lot of advance phonics, and this book served as good practice, while telling an interest and unique story.

Great book for 2nd grade class. Kids liked it!

One of my grandchildren's books. It's fun for adults to read too. Very clever.

I have purchased several copies as gifts for children. A great lesson to be taught.

This book doesn't need me to sing its praises. It's a marvelous story for young children. Just want to say I buy it often as a gift for the children, or grandchildren, of friends.

Doctor De Soto by William Steig: There are many reviews about this book, however mine is from a personal perspective. I read this book to my daughter repeatedly. It rarely gets old or repetitive. The illustrations are so rich and the writing is clever and witty. This is such a fun book to read to little ones. "The fox, still woozy, said goodbye and left. On his way home, he wondered if it would be shabby of him to eat the De Sotos when the job was done." Rich with excitement and wondering how the De Sotos will prevail puts a gleam in my daughter's eye every time.

Its a loverly book with great illustrations. Not too hard to read for a 7yr old who i got it for.

Love the books from this author. Read Doctor Soto to my children and to my grandchildren. Cleverly written. Helps to expand child’s vocabulary in an entertaining fashion.

Such a great story with very cute illustrations. Despite being for kids older than 2 my 2 year old daughter loves this book and manages to follow the story.
